Alcantara tomorrow while the Phils have a DH vs the Nats. Big day. We lose and the Phils manage to win both, you can pretty much put this season to bed.

I don’t think he even had anyone warming up until after the walk to load the bases. It was obvious Peralta didn’t have his command for most of that inning. Counsell should have had people up much sooner.

One of the most alarming outcomes this year has been Counsell’s unwillingness to even consider a different option in spite of what the previous outcomes have demonstrated. His stubbornness to continue to play Cutch virtually every game, keeping Yelich batting third in the order, Hiura, never getting another arm up in the bullpen and a dozen other things. He showed so much promise at the beginning of his tenure.  It seems that he wants to be obstinate just for its own sake. He has been tremendously disappointing.

Hiura gets caught trying to steal 3rd. Then a couple pitches later a base hit that would have scored him. Then Wong can’t score from 2nd on a hit and bobble in the OF.  That is 2 extra runs right there. Theme of the season.

On the hit by Urias, from Wongs' vantage point at second I'm sure it looked like a possible catch, and he can't get too far off the bag since it was hit to LF. Even with the bobble I didn't expect him to be able to score.

With you on the Hiura steal attempt.

I said a while ago, if he wins he has the courage of his convictions. If he loses he's pigheaded. Obstinate often seems to describe it. But his options aren't exactly the best (referring to the lineup). As far as the way he managed tonight, my biggest question was the removal of Lauer after 5 innings. Maybe he was at the end due to his recent return from the IL, I don't know. I DO know that if someone is dealing like he was against us & leaves after five innings I'm thrilled.

I'm fine with staying with Peralta. Anderson has hurt us in the past despite his subpar season & he wanted no part of him. Frankly I'd rather face Garcia there; the guy obviously isn't playing at 100%. It didn't work out. The End.

The issue isn't how Wong handled the play (he handled it well) it was him not running hard to 3B after the ball dropped. If he was running hard to 3B after the ball dropped then he likely scores when the LF lost track of the ball but because he loafed it to 3B him scoring was not a possibility.

OK, didn't see how hard he was (or wasn't) running to 3B. Maybe you're right.

For the life of me I don't understand why the Brewers threw a 1-2 FB to Avi where they did. Just put it right in his sweet spot.

In both pitch & location, they doubled up. Threw the same thing on 1-1 & got a swing-and-miss. I suspect that's why they came back with it.

Certainly not trying to defend it.

In a season where I've frequently walked out of the stadium saying "well, that might be the worst loss of the season so far", tonight it may actually hold true (even though I still have plans to witness some soul-crushing Brewers baseball in-person at least two more times this season). That was downright painful, and mostly because it was so incredibly predictable. So many stranded runners...

I liked CC going to Peralta when he did. However, to not get someone warming in the 8th once the bases began filling up, I just don't understand.

What a disjointed season all around for this team, man oh man.

The horse is dead guys.

Unfortunately dead or alive, we are still cutting that horse checks for the next 6 years, which is currently crippling this franchise.

I thought Topa was throwing in the 8th?  Even so it really makes no difference. CC is a disciple of the "it's (fill in the blank)'s inning" philosophy & he usually won't make a change until after the damage. Admittedly it's bitten him in the arse a lot this year.

That 3 HR blown save at San Francisco before the all-star break might have been the most painful one. It was so clear that Hader was going to blow that game and CC just let him do it.

Yea he came in after the grand slam to finish the inning. My mistake - I meant to say like, warming and coming into the game in the 8th to get out of Freddy's jam.

Got it. It was obvious he was only warming to come in "after the fact" if needed. Just the opposite of the night before when Devin came in in the 7th, which tells me he might be quicker to push buttons now that we're getting down to a precious few. But he didn't want to go to Bush after he threw (and struggled) last night, and probably wanted to save Box for the ninth as DW was probably down. If they had LHH lined up in the 3-4 spots I suspect we would've seen Milner.

This loss isn't on CC or even Peralta.  It's on the FO and how they construct the offensive coupled with botched trade deadline.   At this point, does CC has faith in Rodgers or Bush for the 8th in a tight game?

Currently the Brewers are 14th(in NL) for doubles, 14th in triples, 11th in BA, 11th in Total Hits(nearly 50 Hits below average for the NL(not playoff teams but the entire NL League, its 22nd in the entire MLB.  Nearly 17% of total hits are HRs), 8th in OPB.  Crew is 5th in SLG but that is only because we are 2nd in HR.  They are a station to station offense that needs 4 hits to score a run which is unrealistic to expect every time.  Unless of course they hit a HR which is the primary offense strategy this FO has employed since 2019.  We K way to much and don't put the ball in play to put pressure on any opposing defence.  They don't get on base enough to maximise the one offensive weapon we have which is the HR.  So we might get into the playoffs but it will be another 1st round exit because they cannot hit good or above average pitching consistently.

MA has been owner for 17 seasons, CC has been manager for 7 seasons, DS General Manager/Pres for 6 seasons and the Brewers have won not a pennant or WS in an era of baseball were making the playoffs are easier than its every been in the history of the MLB.  Currently 6 out of the 15 teams make the playoffs.  I remember win there were only two divisions in each league and the division winners only go the "post season".    I know everyone will start but we made the playoffs 4 years in a row mantra or bites of the apple nonsense, but what does it matter if you keep losing the last game of the season.   At some point something has to change unless we are just happy getting the participation trophy.  52 years of existence and only 1 pennant to the franchise.

The 2nd game in the Marlins series is a a must win and the only way I see the Brewers winning this game is if Burnes shuts them out for 7 innings, if he is allowed to go that long.
