Ok, so you've dubbed Tua the "boy who cried concussion," and you DID know about earlier this year?
You watched how he couldn't walk and stumbled vs the Bills and how that Neurologist was fired, right?

...in that the team seems to be using the Concussion protocol to insulate the player from a poor performance, not to suggest that all of Tua's concussions have been fake.  I see why you would take it in that context, and it was probably a less-than-artful turn of a phrase on my part.

I do think there will be fewer critical articles about his performance as a result of the concussion protocol.  (Here is one which was written before that bit of news was announced this morning.)  That in conjunction with the lack of any signs of a concussion (including no one noticing during halftime or at any point in the second half) is why it reads like an excuse to me.  If he clears the protocol before next weekend's game, that would heighten my concern as to whether this is a medical- versus a marketing-driven announcement.

I don't know if I've had a concussion, but the closest I've come to having one came on the football field (running full speed into a 300+ -pound lineman during a kickoff coverage drill in high school).  The people around me could tell I was "woozy" without my saying anything.  That's why I have a hard time believing he could go 7-of-13 in the second half, while interacting with coaches and players playing the most cognitively-challenging position on the field without anyone noticing anything until the day after.

Had one in High School hockey in 03. Got flattened at the blue, got up and had my stick upside down. Skated off the ice and was talking with everyone fine after that 15 seconds.

I got one playing Football in HS as well. It was a playoff game...I do not remember the 2nd half and I had 12 carries, played every snap at LBer and don't remember it save for a couple of flashes.

Got a concussion just screwing around in College. I was on the back of a teammates truck standing up, he...was kinda a dick, gunned it and I fell back, hit my head on the concrete, got up, apparently face planted right into the grass. I remember that night, that day, we were watching a Packers game. I remember walking home.

I don't know, I think it can be real hit or miss.

Ahh...ok. I got ya. I don't know if they're really insulating him though. They're also opening themselves up for insane criticism if he plays next week even though he'd be cleared...and they DESPERATELY need him. And that hit is a VIOLENT hit and it's not so much the hitting the turf, it's the bouncing back.

I don't think there's much protection in this for Tua(meaning, he's still getting crushed) and I think it makes the team look bad.

If he is at the point where he is getting concussions from that type of hit he needs to retire. Some people just end up super susceptible. I had a student get to the point she was reaggravating concussions running track. Given no one has actually pointed to any symptom immediately afterwards I can't fault the protocol. While it was a hard hit if players are getting pulled without other symptoms on similar plays you will be evaluating guys all the time.

He should. He almost certainly won't.

The Dolphins should at the very least not play him anymore this year.
They will.
