OSU vs Mizzou, without any motivation and the current transfer portal climate...looks like a mid level high school JV game.  And these are a pair of top 10 teams!

College football is really screwing up their product

How many guys are missing for the buckeyes that have either hit the portal or just sitting out?

Not sure on actual numbers, but the best player in CFB this season (Harrison Jr.) is sitting because he's set to be a top 5 draft pick and their starting QB transferred, then their primary backup got knocked out early with injury.  Mizzou has some guys out as well - any player with eyes on the NFL would be foolish to play in the bowl game the way this system is set up, and even the guys who suit up aren't invested in the outcome of this game despite it being one of the marquee non-CFP bowls.

OSU was within 1 score of being the top ranked team in the CFB playoff, and they had a better resume with 1 loss than Alabama did, IMO.

Kind of impressed with Missouri. They play hard and I think Schrader could be a late round sleeper that could help an NFL team

NCAA football has a problem.  The number 5 team in the country essentially decides to punt the Orange Bowl and loses by 60?  This just can’t happen.  It’s a horrible look, it is a way bigger issue than just this game, and I’m not sure a 12-team playoff field is the only fix required here.

NY6 was always a weird concept…it’s supposedly a “special” exhibition game? Nobody is going to miss them after this season.

The 12-team playoff makes it much easier to understand which bowl games matter and which are exhibition games. Although I think the new issue will be that most of the extra playoff games will also be blowouts.

When you diminish everything else that was formerly of value in major college football (conference titles, conference-specific Bowl game representation, etc.) to be meaningless besides winning what still amounts to a popularity contest to get into two games at the end of the year, something that 90+ percent of the teams in major college football that aren't NFL factories have zero chance at to begin with, then sprinkle in the current insanity that is the transfer portal and NIL push for good players at these mid tier programs to shop around where they could make more $$, you get the current state of college football.  Which is essentially garbage but enough people in SEC country care about it to make the current system profitable, so things aren't changing for the better anytime soon.

No easy fix for the bowl providers.

Yep, I've pretty much lost all interest in college football and won't be watching the Badger game. I'm sick and tired of massive turnover in football programs to the point of you don't even know who you're cheering for anymore.

The 12 team playoff field is a step in the right direction...that should at least keep players in the top tier programs long enough to have a slate of good games rather than see the transfor portal and nfl sit out announcements pour in for games that should carry some weight.

However, with the expanded field I'd like to see them do away completely with the top 25 rankings.  Just make the cfp field the top two teams in each of the four power conferences plus four at large bids - with no more than 4 teams being able to get into the playoff from any one conference.  I hate that preseason rankings carry weight through the year , and this large of a playoff field should render them completely pointless.

I have posted this in the past but I will post this again.  If you want to be in the CFP you have to play at a minimum two games against ranked opponents in the top 15 and they can’t be from your own conference.  So if you are Ohio State then Michigan or Penn State wouldn’t count.

I think this would make the actual season mean something.  Rankings would also come out earlier in the preseason.  If a team doesn’t have two scheduled outside their conference then they can’t play in the CFP.

I briefly turned in the Arizona Bowl today, and wow my wife asked if it was a high school game because the production value was so low and the announcer weren't even paying attention to the game in the first half of a 4 point game. I used to enjoy bowl season, not a crazy amount, but catch a few here and there then cram them in for New Year's. I'm not completely ready to give up on college football, but it is feeling like it wouldn't take much at this point. Big Ten volleyball is pretty exciting

They have to change something. You can either have nil or the portal that you can't have both. It just corrupts the system far too much.

Personally I think the portal should be only 5th year guys or if your coach leaves.. otherwise it cost you a season to transfer.

Perhaps the biggest problem that nobody is talking about is what if anything the networks are going to be willing to pay for these "bowl" games that aren't CFP playoff games moving forward if this is the quality of performance they will get.  With so many players transferring or opting out you end up with what happened in the Orange Bowl.  Or with Texas A&M having only 48 scholarship players available for their bowl game.  Or Minnesota throwing for 26 yards... and winning.  Who would have ever thought that the Orange Bowl between Georgia and Florida State would have ended up like this?

Fan attendance is a fraction of what the conferences/schools receive for participating in that "bowl" game.  Fan attendance will dwindle, but that won't have nearly the effect of what will happen if the TV revenue dwindles.  The reason the NCAA has been so laissez-faire about this is because they are afraid of getting sued for anti-trust practices.  But what will they do if that TV revenue goes away?

Interesting that while Brock Bowers opted out, Carson Beck, Ladd McConkey, Javon Bullard, Tykee Smith, Sedrick Van Pran, and other draft-eligible Bulldogs played.  Some of it comes down to player leadership.

Immediate eligibility for a transfer only if the coach leaves is something I've advocated for a while now. The problem is the NCAA has virtually no confidence in anything they implement being upheld in court. College FB is careening towards the day when it's of interest only to those who don't want to limit their betting to NFL games. I know there are fans of both, but a lot of college FB fans are of a different breed, and the things that appeal to them are slowly being destroyed.

I watched the game for a few minutes. You know how sportstalk is on the radio now, where 30-40% of the time they aren't even talking about sports? That's what it reminded me of. Then I saw the logo on the field. The game was sponsored by Barstool Sports. When anyone that doesn't lose eight games is able to at least sniff the chance of reaching a bowl, this is what you get.

I thought Marvin Harrison JR standing on the sidelines for OSU, in uniform, after deciding to quit the team sends a horrible message.

I have no strong interest in college football.  I attended a D-III school, and grew up with the closest major schools being Iowa, Illinois, and Iowa State being roughly equally far away—all programs with practically no appeal to anyone who didn’t attend them.  This is to say that I am the definition of a casual fan.

What about this whole situation in college football is supposed to appeal to a fan like me?  These games used to be a showcase for the best of the best playing in unusual and intriguing matchups.  Instead, we are subjected to unwatchable trash.  If the players don’t even care, why should I?  How is the NCAA going to grow its brand?

Heck, forget casuals like me, and tell me how is the NCAA going to even keep its own fan base from disengaging?  How discouraging for fans of Florida State or Ohio State to see their season end like this.  It just reiterates the sense that there’s really only two or three teams that matter, and there’s everybody else just trying to grab as much fast money as they possibly can.  Go team…

I honestly don't care what happens now in the playoff, though Washington would be a pretty decent change of pace, now that bama is out.

Remember what Yoda said:

Wow what a catch on Washington's 3rd td.  Good awareness to stick with the ball.

Interviewing head coaches between plays between the 3rd and 4th quarter is the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

I mean what's he going to tell you? He certainly not going to tell you the next play.

There's been some ridiculously good catches by wide receivers today.

Certainly seems like there's a lot of tall receivers that can go get footballs that will likely get a look on Sundays.

I swear there's an awful lot of college coaches that go absolutely brain dead with play calling at times.

15 seconds left and first and goal from the 13 and you try a swing pass.

In that situation you might have three chances and all three must be throws to the end zone.

Not only that, but around the 7-8 minute mark of the 4th quarter Washington led by two scores & had the ball. Their play calling at that time was less about winning & more about..... I don't know.....trying to impress their friends? The final possession for Texas never would've existed because the game would've been over. Just dumb.

On the swing pass, maybe they thought the safety would've been in the end zone guarding against a longer throw? But even then, just throw it away. Not smart.
