That Rowdy error really hurt. There's a chance that whole inning goes differently if Houser has 2 outs against Bregman. Also it's a lot easier to let pitchers pitch deep into games when you have bigger than a 1-2 run lead so the offense performing better would help as well.

The same thing ran through my head at the time--what if it was a 3 or 4 run lead? I'm guessing that unless it's a Woodruff or Burnes you see the same move.

And like I said, you can't argue with the results. Big picture though, I just feel this rotation (when healthy) should give you more outings into the 7th inning than you usually see, which would help the pen once the dog days emerge.

Very true. Or, at the very least, stock up more on multi-inning relievers than short guys who only go one inning.

Rowdy/Ruf DH platoon.

Contreras - C

Miller - 1B

Turang - 2B

Urias - 3B

Adames - SS

Yelich - LF

Wiemer - CF

Anderson - RF

With Caratini, Brosseau, Taylor, Ruf on the bench. Honestly might be our strongest team at the moment.

I would probably sub in Frelick for Wiemer at CF once he's healthy, but yeah I agree otherwise.

An impressive series win and rebound from Monday. Now gotta keep it up against the mediocre Giants.

They have a couple guys who can do that now, but CC likes to spread out the workload & have someone available for a 2nd or 3rd day in a row, as opposed to extending someone, even if it's only to 30-35 pitches, and saving the next guy. It's just his philosophy. I was never a huge Suter fan but that was a nice feature to his game, that he could do pretty much anything asked of him. Bryce Wilson seems to be the closest to that right now.

As I have said elsewhere, Matt Bush was a better candidate to waive at that point, given his age (36) and the gopher ball issues. Suter would probably be the best acquisition for that "do anything" guy, plus Counsell/Arnold know what type of clubhouse presence he provides.

Not that there aren't other pitchers out there who can do that, but in my view, the best bullpen has a closer, one or two guys for the 7th/8th, a fireman or two (think Hader in 2018), and the rest are the multi-inning guys. Also, I'd see which of the guys in the position player group might be able to go one or two innings in a blowout loss.
