There were a lot of people that thought we should do what it takes to get him a year or two ago.

He's been a train wreck!

I think J.D. Martinez was probably the best signing this off season and was someone I wanted the Brewers to go after.  His .278/.320/.611 for a 145 wRC+ would look really good in the Brewers lineup right now as the everyday DH.  Though the majority of his damage is coming against RHP so he wouldn't have helped against LHP.  Though career wise he has mashed lefties with a 150 wRC+.

A lot of people thought we should extend Wily Adames too. Dude closer to deserving nontender papers than $150mil+

As much of a trainwreck this team is...the forum could make it A's bad with a big payroll.

I for one thought that Abreu's deal was very reasonable and disappointed we couldn't top it. Good non-move so far for Arnold. Although his actual acquisitions leave a lot to be desired.

I’d say Contreras, Miller, Anderson, Payamps, Wilson, Miley, Peguero, even Rea and Teheran (+7.1 combined WAR) have been way bigger hits than Winker and Voit (-1.1 combined WAR) have been misses.

The main reason this team is middling so far is underperformance from Adames, Burnes, Peralta and Lauer plus injury to Woodruff with a dash of Taylor/Turang/Wiemer not hitting.

I didn’t like the third year for Abreu. And it looks like more than just that third year is going to be a problem.

I was good with signing Abreu for two years but not three. Looks like I get half credit on being right about that.

To be fair about that trade, we sent Wong (-1.1 WAR by himself) for Winker (-0.6) and Toro (+0.1) so it could be seen as a net plus move.

Honestly Brewers did pretty well for themselves in FA between Anderson and Miley. A lot of the bigger dollar FA signings haven't looked too good so far this year.

Wow, early returns are not pretty…

HITS

Judge (9/360) 188 wRC+ | 2.8 WAR
Dansby (7/177) 118 wRC+ | 2.6 WAR
Nimmo (8/162) 126 wRC+ | 1.8 WAR
Yoshida (5/90) 146 wRC+ | 1.2 WAR

MISSES

Turner (11/300) 79 wRC+ | 0.7 WAR
Xander (11/280) 106 wRC+ | 1.8 WAR
Correa (6/200) 88 wRC+ | 0.2 WAR
deGrom (5/185) 63 ERA- | 0.8 rWAR TJ
Rodon (6/162) YET TO PITCH
Diaz (5/102) HURT AT WBC
Contreras (5/87.5) 89 wRC+ | 0.6 WAR
Verlander (2/86.7) 105 ERA- | 0.4 rWAR

deGrom was dealing before getting injured (who’d have guessed?) and Xander is borderline but I went miss based on the size of contract, wRC+ down 28% from his prime and ugly StatCast numbers.

Not a FA deal, but might as well throw the Machado extension in the miss pile at 11/350 for 80 wRC+ and 0.2 WAR so far.

Suddenly Yelich (5/136.5 remaining after this year) doesn’t seem so abysmal at 108 wRC+ | 1.6 WAR to this point.

You missed one but it is only a 1-year deal.

J.D. Martinez (1/10) 148 wRC+ | 1.1 WAR

The WAR is low because of being the Dodgers DH.  He has played all but one game as the DH.

That 1/10 deal is an absolute steal by the Dodgers.

Yeah, I was just looking at the top of the leaderboard by total value.

Don’t think JDM was ever signing anywhere but LAD to reunite with his old hitting coach Van Scoyoc, but great pick up by them for sure.
