Better than a conversion on 3rd.

Would have converted regardless.  The defense is playing dead right now at least the d-line is.

And if they don't go for two it's still a one score game

This question always comes up. I'd rather go for 2 early so you know if you need two drives or not.

I have no problem with the call to go for 2. They were already in FG range after the punt if it weren't for the personal foul. That was the turning point.

No targeting on that?

Thought his arms were higher.

I have no big problem either but it sure seems to bite people in the rear end more often than not.

Another disappointing Badger team. Nothing new.

Not really sure this is a disappointing team.  There isn’t really much good about this team other than Mellusi and Allen.  Everywhere else was just mediocre.  This was a two or three loss team regardless.

This game was stolen.

While i think the refs stunk they did not play well enough to win on the road against a decent team.

Just get to a bowl game because it's not going to happen this year..

Meh. They weren't better. It wasn't a Fail Mary.

You’re right, this was a perfect example of NCAA football. With the home team selecting their own conference refs. With the way teams and players move around, it’s not much different then the NBA.

Yeah... I'm disappointed with the game.  Even if the officiating was bad, Wisconsin beat themselves.

  • Stupid penalties
  • Two... ok... three turnovers.  The fumbles by Mordecai were squarely on the left side of his offensive line.
  • Mrs. Samurai and I were both calling for Tressel to be fired in the first half.  Zero ingenuity on the pass rush.  Defensive backs completely clueless on what to do.  In the second half, Turner came back.  If he made that much of a difference, then he should be a first-round draft pick.
  • The defense seemed to not be ready.  Another term would be ill-prepared.  The zone got picked apart.
  • When blitzing a mobile quarterback, keep the vertical containment along with the horizontal containment.  Geesch!
  • Too many missed tackles.  There were times where the tackling was good, but overall, it was not good.

I was encouraged by a few things, though:

  • Mordecai showed that he can move the ball quickly.
  • The defense did show signs of playing well.  Maybe the defensive backs are understanding how to pass off receivers?
  • The Field Goal kicker was solid.
  • The Punter did a 180 from last week.

Will be in attendance for the game next week.  Hopefully they come out and dominate.

I didn’t watch the first game but I saw most of this one and came away with a largely positive impression. I thought they were really going to suck this year but they look like they have a much higher ceiling than last year’s joke of a team. They mostly shot themselves in the foot in this game but it was a non-conference game so who really cares since they are not playoff contenders.

I agree with Samurai, they mostly just lack the personnel to run the offense that they are trying to do. Mordecai actually looks ok but those receivers can barely catch the easy ones. You see why they’ve never tried to change the offense in the past 30 years but it will get better with better personnel.

Half of the purpose of the tempo offense is to not give the defense time to set up.  Not enough time to diagnose, align, and call an effective blitz.

The offense was worse than the defense in the first half.  Calling run plays for the guards to pull doesn't work against a fast and undersized defense than swarms.  With a fast, undersized defense you have to go straight at them and force them to stand their ground.  That, or run effective play action/RPO to draw the LBs up and open up the intermediate pass which they did in the 2nd half.

Exactly. It’s college football, beating conference rivals is by very far the main thing. Is to my fanship, anyways.
