Padres have said he's available.... And signed to a long term deal, I would love to add him as our 2B.

Much better hitter than Turang and plays GG D.

Pass. He's gotten worse each year since he debuted and is 29 and signed through 2030. I think there's a good chance he's replacement level guy within the next few years.

Recently he hasn't been all that much better than Turang.

2023 Cronenworth: .229/.331/.405

2023 Turang: .218/.285/.300

Other than slugging there really isn't much of a difference between '23 Turang and '23 Cronenworth.  If it only takes Bauers for Cronenworth with the Padres paying about 15% of Cronenworth's salary sure that would be fine.  I don't think the Padres would be interested in that.

Cronenworth had a 92 wRC+ last year compared to Turang's 60 wRC+...that's a huge difference? That's the same wRC+ gap from Cronenworth to William Contreras.

Yeah, I mean other than 46 points of OBP and 105 points of slugging, there's not much difference.

While also doing that playing half his games at Petco a much more pitcher friendly park than AmFam. If Cronenworth had 3-4 years left on his deal I would be all over trading for him. I just think the last 3-4 years of his deal are going to be really bad. There's a reason he's valued at $-20M on BTV

Cronenworth is due around $80m over the next 7 years. A lot for a guy who did not look good last year. Was it an aberration? I don't know. The club would have to be pretty sure they can fix him.

I think Turang will get closer to what Cronenworth did last year with a full season.  So I don't see it being that much of a difference.  I also believe that Cronenworth is going to continue to decline.

Also taking contracts involved is 46 points of OBP and 105 points of slugging significantly better when comparing what you are paying for each?

All Savant shows with Cronenworth is a decline on barrel pct, EV, and max EV every year for him(4)  increased their launch angle above prime. Has some increase on k pct his last 2 seasons. One would think you avoid them with everything you got. Especially under contract.  Reds(good) rookie year. Nearly all blues last year.(bad)

Candelario would have been a better get. And I'm glad they didn't pay him 15M because that's remaining a great season. Any dropoff from ceiling, is an over pay.

I’d be ok with Burnes and Mitchell for Merrill, Snelling, Iriarte, and Cronenworth.  Maybe toss in Zamora…

The Cronenworth contract has negative value.

If you could get Merrill back in a Burnes trade by taking on Cronenworth, I'd consider it. Something like Burnes for Merrill, Iriarte, Lizaraga, and Cronenworth.

I'd think getting Merrill a top 10 prospect on the rise, would be it. Like Burnes straight up for Merrill and Cronenworth...probably actually including somebody.  Btv would put that combo as Milw giving up 37M-33M surplus value due to JC having negative 21M value basically.

Like I mentioned-Savant shows JC regressing on the barrell-EV-max EV every season thus far.  His rookie season is the best season he will ever have. Think of him as Hiura within 2 years...only he's being paid when he's on a flight that next offseason overseas.

Welcome to the site!

I think the Cronenworth contract doesn't have much value to the Brewers; they have second base covered and Cronenworth's offense is pretty sketchy as a first baseman.

But I don't think the Cronenworth contract is necessarily negative value. He had a pretty bad 2023 but I think it's reasonable to expect some rebound with him, I just don't know if that rebound will be enough for that contract to make sense at first base.

But at a lower-offense position like second where his defensive attributes are more valuable, I think it's a decent risk for a team in need at that position.

Sorry fellas, Jake sounded like a good option at the time....

Jorge Polanco would be a better fit, switching hitting 2B with power... Oh hell yes!!

If the Padres want to dump him (they very well may have to) and add a real prospect, I would have interest.

Something like:

Padres: Burnes and Mitchell

Brewers: Cronenworth, Merrill and Snelling

Not Cronenworth.  If we’re trading with the Padres, though, I wouldn’t mind making a run at Ha-Seong Kim if we want a major-league bridge for 2024 until other infield options arrive via promotion or acquisition.  I’ve wanted Kim in the fold for years.

I would pass unless he is a throw in for a Burnes or Williams trade that gets us a better prospect. In that case, I would still want the Pads to throw in some cash for the end of that contract.

Without Cronenworth=  Burnes for Snelling, Mazur, Pauley

With Cronenworth= Burnes and Peguero for Robby Snelling, Jackson Merrill, and Cronenworth.

For me getting Merrill would make this a go.
