You know prospects better than I ever will. Is there a 40 man guy you would've let go before Andrews, or would you rather not have done the Junis signing and kept them all?

It's good that we have a lot of talented guys who deserve 40 man spots, so I'm glad we were able to get a promising 19-year-old to add to the system who won't have 40 man consideration for years for a guy who we had DFA'd and could have got nothing.

Brewers could have let let Jahmai Jones go with no issue.  I never said that Andrews will be anything but 3 1/3 innings isn't really a fair shot.

Also Vinny Capra, Taylor Clarke, J.B. Bukauskas. Haase may not have a place in the org if/when the Sanchez thing becomes official. They have an OF named Chris Roller currently on the 40-man who I think may just be a Create-A-Player from MLB The Show.

For all we know, the Yankees really wanted Andrews, the Brewers said "No, we really like Andrews, too," and then the Yankees said, "Yeah? Well what if we give you Quezada?" And the Brewers chuckled to themselves, "OMG, They willing to give us QUEZADA! WE HAVE TO DO THIS!"

Edit: I'm dumb... I forgot the waivers part -- missed the total point of the thread. NM.

Sometimes when I read this board and others I wonder if I'm the only one who doesn't consider Bukauskas as the next DFA candidate. I actually really liked the little I saw him pitch for the Brewers last year, as well as doing well in AAA and having that former top prospect pedigree as well. Him converting to a Sinker/Slider type pitcher seems to have done him well. Not having an option remaining is what hurts his chances, as well as the likely need to have more multi-inning capability than normal in the 'pen, but in terms of abilfy I think the Brewers really like him tbh. Think it might need an injury or trade for him to make the OD roster though.

As to the point of why the Yankees would be interested and give something up; Pitchers with options remaining who put up those strikeout numbers in AAA will always be interesting to teams. He throws 94-95 from the left side with a low release point that (should) create a good vertical approach angle. That's the kind of fastball that teams love these days. Brewers clearly see other things they don't like (The walk rate/command perhaps), Yankees think that's managable. We'll see how it turns out.

Personally I don't mind too much. Yeah he could be a solid reliever some day, wouldn't surprise me. But he's not going to be a truly elite reliever I don't think, and he's not a starter. So getting something in return for freeing up a roster spot for the 10th or so best reliever on the team is fine by me. If he turns into a good reliever, then good for him, wish him all the best.

You’re not, Bukauskas should be far down the list of DFA candidates. Really good stuff, but the lack of an option likely kills his long-term opportunity with this club.

Another club without the ridiculous organizational bullpen depth of this club will be getting a nice reliever.

Wasn't Andrews a bit of a darling around here? Now we're glad he's gone and surprised another team wanted him?

Burst on the scene back in 2018 as a 5’6” 17th round pick going 6-1 with a 2.18 ERA over 33 IP (mostly at Wisco when it was still low A) with a pretty ridiculous 54 Ks to only 7 BBs.

Farm system was pretty weak back then so I believe he got some back end Top 20 love.

Followed that up with a decent 2019 on the mound, 59 IP of 3.19 ERA split between A+/AA with 77 K and 25 BB.

Also played 16 games in CF batting 333/391/381 over 69 PA with a nice 7 K vs 6 BB split.

Then the pandemic happened, he got hurt and essentially lost all of 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Bounced back nicely last year at Nashville with 57 IP of 2.53 ERA and 74 K vs 31 BB, but got crushed in his tiny MLB sample - 3 HR in 3 IP.

Looking at the International League leaderboard minimum 50 IP last year that 2.53 ERA was good for 2nd lowest with Thomas Pannone (2.70) and Ethan Small (3.18) also cracking the Top 10 out of the Nashville pen. Andrews 31.1 K% came in 6th and his 16.1% swinging strike rate came in 4th.

The thing about clearing a 40 man spot is that if you clear roster-filler, you lose the value (as little as that may be), for nothing. When you clear a guy like Clayton Andrews, who, with his AAA performance and options, has tradeable value, and the move announces to teams, "we're dealing him, so if you want him, we'll need your best offer."
