We were due to struggle with runners in scoring position at some point in this run.  Still managed to score 4 runs.  Baltimore is a solid team and taking 2 of 3 in Baltimore is great.

Just chalk this one as a loss and move on and get back on the horse Monday against the Padres.

I can tolerate the physical mistake of popping up a ball because it happens.

What I can't tolerate is the mental mistake of Wiemer just standing there with the bat on his shoulders with 2 strikes and 1 out in a situation where he just needs to put the ball in play to score a run.

Yeah. I had no problem w/the Ortiz AB, from the neck-up. It finished in a disappointing fashion, yeah. But from start to finish that wasn't a bad AB at all.

Today is the first time Murphy put out one of those odd lineups similar to what Counsell has done for the past few years on Sunday afternoons

Could honestly be a case of Murphy wanting Hicklen, Arnold denying him in favor of claiming Corbin Martin, then Murphy going whole hog to show Arnold what Wiemer is able to deliver at present.

Passive-aggressive fight like we’ve possibly seen in the past (e.g. wasting value of Villar and Hiura instead of trading them; refusal to let Toro play or Perkins hit last year; pointlessly rostering Jonathan Davis the year before; Frelick not being allowed to play CF for several weeks).

Meanwhile, Hicklen hit a 2-run homer and walked today for Nashville, further cementing his case to be added to the MLB roster..

Ortiz had a great at bat, the result wasn't there but he made Burnes work. There were a number of at bats like that today. My frustration was probably more than it should have been with Wiemer. Burnes is a tough matchup in his first MLB action in 2024.

The team isn't always going to convert with RISP under 2 outs. As long as at bats are competitive I'm usually satisfied. I didn't think Wiemer was overly competitive but I'll give him some credit he made Burnes throw a few more pitches.

I had a hard time pulling for Burnes when he pitched for Milwaukee

it is now easy to root against him when he pitches elsewhere

IMHO … He’s always been a whiny complainer

No doubt, he’s a good pitcher … but I don’t consider him great

Yes, he had one great season … but overall he’s very good

Good riddance … I like Ortiz & the potential I see in Hall

This probably isn't fair to him b/c the circumstances were totally different, but I had negative feelings about him ever since the end of the season. When Woodruff had to be scratched from game 1 vs Arizona, looking at him in front of the cameras you'd have thought his entire family perished. You had to be touched by the emotionally crushed way he felt.

After losing his start a day or two later, Burnes' postgame was much, much different. He sort of gave me a feeling of "Yeah, it sucks to lose, but I'm 12 months from a big payday, so........"

Like I said, probably unfair. But the contrast of it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Somebody has to explain the need to play Wiemer today when Bauers and Chourio are both available. I don't get it. The beauty of this season has been no auto outs. Now we are back to this and the auto out is always coming up in big spots

They deemed Chourio in need of a day off, which I agree with. Bauers has played next to no OF, and Yelich is deemed unavailable. That's the explanation. It in no way means I'm in favor of Wiemer being up here right now.

Yep. Their numbers this season in those situations have been slowpitch-softball like. Adames had a really ugly AB where he never saw a strike in 6 or 7 pitches & struck out, but by & large they've been very good.

Aside from the mechanics--which should be cleaned up in Nashville, not here--he just always seems to wind up in bad counts, usually of his own doing. Certainly Burnes is not someone you want him facing out of the chute.

Wiemer's drawn eight walks to date in Nashville. The call up probably was earlier than Milwaukee wanted with Yelich being out.

I'd probably have had Turang in the outfield (he's handled CF before) and would have put Monasterio at second if Chourio needed the off day.

Monasterio was sent down when Wiemer was called up.

Not by Uribe.

Uribe might need a trip to AAA to straighten out.

And Uribe is cocky on top of it, I don't like that at all.
