The Game-Thread title is obviously cheeky BUT...

Two crunch time triples for Made in less than a week. One a walk-off. Another 2-RBI poke today. Let's all, in the very least, appreciate the start we are seeing from the headliners in this 2024 International Class. MadePena, and Quintana have all gotten off to fantastic starts. Major kudos to them in their first professional moments.

Luis Pena:

1 2B, 2-for-2, 3 R, 1 RBI, 3 SB

Crew Uno lead 8-6

CF Jose Anderson (de Los Dos):

2nd Dinger this week. 1-fpr-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR

With the great starts from the ‘24 class in the first few games (yes, very, very small sample size), it is tough to see Kevin Ereu struggle early on, while DiTuri now joins Yophery in Zebulon.

Well the bad news is DSL Brewers 2 lost. The good news is DSL Brewers 1 won.

And INF Luis Pena is obviously a gazelle: 9 stolen bases through 4 games...with a 1.159 OPS to boot (very sustainable)!

Speaking of Anderson in particular, he was a 'Sleeper' for Baseball 'Merica when their Brewers post-Int'l Signing period completed:

Quote

Sleeper Watch

Dominican outfielder Jose Anderson signed with the Brewers for $60,000 with an impressive track record of hitting in games, especially relative to his signing amount. He’s 6 feet, 185 pounds with excellent bat control from the right side, with a disciplined approach and hand-eye coordination that produces a high contact rate. His power has started to trend up too, so it’s a mix of contact and some emerging juice. His bat is his calling card, with a chance for center field but a potentially landing in a corner.

Pretty spot on scouting report through 3 games here.

RHP Yorman Galindez (3.03 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 14.6 K/9 in 29.2 IP) and the Low-A Mudcats need a win tonight in Charleston to claw back from a 3-1 series deficit. DH/SS Cooper Pratt has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games.

AA Biloxi is having nip-and-tuck games in Montgomery this week, tied 2-2 in the series. 23-year old RHP Bradley Blalock (3.56 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 43 IP) gets tonight’s pivotal start. A general power outage has the Shuckers team slugging percentage at .315 vs. the Biscuits’ league-leading .408 mark.

RHP Jakob Junis makes his 2nd rehab start for AAA Nashville, who can clinch this week’s series with a home win over Louisville. Yesterday’s walk-off hero LF Issac Collins (.912 OPS in 230 PAs) is right back in the 3 hole.

The High-A Timber Rattlers have 20-year old RHP Yujanyer Herrera (3.38 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 11.8 K/9 in 37.1 IP) starting tonight as they aim for a 3-2 home series lead against Quad Cities. Wisconsin is last in the 12-team Midwest League in home runs (25 in 55 games), but first in stolen bases (118).

Hall first HR. Can't believe it was his first in pro ball. He got all of it. What a shot.

And then .... walk, fly out, single with an error and triple. Now it's 5-2 TRats. Let's go!!!

Oh yeah. Mudcats win. AIdan Maldonado with a 3 inning save. Galindez had a nice start. And DiTuri and Pratt made up most of the offense, with 5 of the teams 8 hits. Final score 2-1. Nice win.

Y. Herrera finishes 5 strong innings. Gave up 8 hits and a few walks, so his pitch count was up to ~95.

But got the strikeout on a 93 mph heater to end the 5th. Gutsy performance by the young man.

TRats still up 6-3.

.... and it's apparently a weather delay. That must have been quick.

With Carolina winning tonight, and with second place Lynchburg currently getting smacked by Delmarva, the stage is set for the Muddies to open back a 4.0 G lead on first place. Big time!

IF the T-Rats can hold on here, they'll have a chance to push their lead in first place to 3.5 G over the Kernels of Cedar Rapids. T-Rats lead 6-3 (tho, we are in a sudden rain delay in the bottom of the 5th) and he Kernels trail 2-1 (albeit, in only the 3rd frame).

Needless to say, lots at stake every game for the T-Rats n Muddies from here on out to close the first half in a couple weeks.

Want a synopsis of the Shuckers season.

Boeve walk. Wilken single. Miller walks.

Then.... EBJ strikes out swinging to a guy who was not locating well.

Then EMJ grounds into the 3-2-3 DP.

Ugh. This team I tell you. I mean they are at least in the lead. But had the chance for so much more. Now on the bottom of the 9th, still 5-3.

Botton 9 with Holub on.

Then a fly out to right center. Carlos Rodriguez may have trapped it, but called it an out. Got lucky there.

But a misplay by Miller on a ball tapped in front of the plate. And a runner on 1st.

Routine fly out to shallow center caught by Murray. And a K. and its a Shucker win.

RHP Evan McKendry with his best outing of his season in a long relief role. 4 IP,  3 H. 0 BB, 0 R, 6 K. He got the Sounds all the way to the 8th frame as they managed to tie it 1-1 in the bottom of the 7th. Unfortunately, LHP Rob Zastryzny had an uncharacteristically wild inning of work (3 BB) and gave the lead back to the Bats. Sounds trail 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th - one down.
