Frelick absolutely sucks.

He will never hit for power but the real problem is right now no one is driving in runs so a guy with an ok on base percentage but no power is kind of useless.

Maybe Arnold can trade for one more ham and egger that nobody else would want. That'll turn this thing around and then it's World Series here we come.

Williams being back so you slide Megill back a spot will be a big help. I hope he's still got it has a huge couple months and then brings back a bat in offseason.

The more I watch this team, the more I do not want to trade any top prospects.

This is not the year to go for it, it just isn't.

Far too many needs,

If Bell could be had cheap I would get him.

Free agent in the off-season so he would be a rental.

He is one guy you can get that can get hot and carry an offense at times.

Bauer has never and will never be able to do that.

Just like last year.  They may eventually get to the playoffs but it will be another quick exit.

I'm not disagreeing, but there will likely never be a year to do so.

There will probably never be a year where we can realistically be the NL favorite.

We can be good enough to win our division and hope to get hot and lucky at the right time.

That's about it.

If not now, then when? What has keeping our prospects done for the past 20 years? Certainly not a World Series. I still think this team will win the division. If they do nothing, that's as far as they will ever go, but the organization seems content to just have winning records and not make a dent in the playoffs. All our top prospects are on the team now and everybody seems to think they have no talent. Who's to say the next batch will be any different?

Playing poorly is also a pretty common occurrence when your offense can't score runs.

If I understand what you're saying, I don't really agree. they've had plenty of games where they have trouble scoring runs, yet the starter, and/or BP and/or defense was top notch & they won. Friday night Peralta & Adames were poor early and put the team in a hole, before they even had a chance to show whether or not they were going to hit that night. We all know they need to string together more successful ABs. But the above areas I mentioned are always going to be vital. Tonight---two missed catches within a 3 batter stretch. Ballgame. A five-run hole Friday in the 2nd inning, then a four run deficit in the seventh tonight. Philly & LA more often than not aren't coming back from those deficits, much less us.

Everything is under a microscope when the team isn't swinging the bats well and making outs on the basepaths.

Run prevention (with this staff) is only going to go so far. The offense needs to be better and the veterans need step up. At bats have been terrible by far too many for a while now, including the veterans and the younger guys.

I'm also of the thought our hitting coaches aren't very good at in season corrections.

Seem to have a decent handle on off-season prep but we always seem to fade badly in the second half.

Yeah, like I said the ABs need to be better. No denying that. But you had your (cough, cough) staff ace yesterday, after all the documentation about starting games poorly & throwing too many pitches, promptly fall behind the games' first batter 2-0, then walks him. Then one inning later Adames whiffs on a chest-high hop & commits an error a high school SS would be embarrassed by. Those two things made what should've been an early 2-0 deficit 5-0. Even the plays in the 7th tonite--none of this stuff is above-the-norm, elite run prevention stuff. it's basic. If what happens these last two games continues, the offense can get better & it isn't making any difference.

Glad you mentioned the basepaths. What Mitchell did with the team down 2-0, just can't do that.

I'm not big on "Fire this guy, fire that guy", but last season there was a point where I actually wanted both of them gone. You might be right about making adjustments in-season. Guys like Turang & Ortiz wearing down could also be a part of it. Chourio is hot, but you hear a lot about Contreras & Adames working with him before the hot streak, not the coaches. So who knows?

I'm sure the long season is wearing them down as well but I'm more concerned that some of the mechanical stuff is not being fixed and adjustments made to how pitchers are approaching them.

Time to send Frelick down, bring Black up

They have, in essence, four OFs. Black has been playing out there a little bit but they aren't going with 4 OFs w/ Black being one of them. If they don't find the right deal for a bat I think Black winds up in Milwaukee but I feel the corresponding move pretty much has to be one of the catchers.

Sanchez needs to go.

Trying to find a more video but there's definitely been some changes in Ortiz hand placement pre-launch and a bigger front foot swing.

Bat is more vertical and seems to be late getting to the proper launch point quite often. Previously his hands were set up deeper with a more proper bat angle.

When he was going well he had a relatively shallow launch angle and was slightly open when he swung even on pitches on the outer half.

He was far better contact-wise before the changes.

I remember he seemed to have what I call a 'flatter' swing and, even with a slightly open stance, was just absolutely lashing balls to RF. That seems to have disappeared.

I'm sure it works for some guys but in general I hate the big leg kicks & hate seeing it being more pronounced for Ortiz. Obviously it isn't as easy to fix as one would think, but "Gee, A works well, I think I'll try B" drives me right up a tree. I haven't paid close enough attention but I suspect he's being crowded a little more these days, which factors in.

I am of the opinion of waiting for next year. This year is falling off the rails with injuries. Go all in in 2025 and 26.
