Do we really care about penciling in guys in the traditional 1-5 (or six!) way anymore, after the last few seasons of MLB baseball? Between injuries, flops (Jordan Montgomery anyone?), breakouts like Myers, semi-surprises like Flaherty, the SUPER-talented Misiorowskis, the UN-talented performers like Chad Patrick...

The Brewers have proven that depth trumps all.

At any point in the season, the Brewers count on different players to step up at different times, and they are also willing to move on pretty quickly from pitchers that aren't performing. They are creative about maximizing the out-getting ability of every pitcher on the roster, whether they're one-inning only guys, two-times through the order guys, openers, 6 inning starters, whatever.

The Brewers don't use a 5, or 6-man rotation. They use a 15-man rotation. And I'm here for it.

Okay, you need 4374 outs in 162 games. Add in a few extra inning games, let's call it 4400.

Forget innings, divide the outs up among 20 pitchers. GO!

This is probably true.  In order for this to happen effectively you have to have lots of guys with options or count on injuries  *wink* at just-the-right-time. CivaleRea, Payamps, Mears, Milner, Wilson, and Bukauskas are out of options (or have enough service time to decline to be optioned).  I'd guess that Civale, Rea and Payamps are the only ones to make it to opening day, and only one will still be in the organization at the ASB (or will be hurt).  That still leaves plenty of arms to go around.  I doubt that money is spent on the issue unless it's petty cash.

I agree with this. With that said, guys with options are also more valuable to OTHER teams that employ similar roster maneuvering.
