So I don't recall this ever really coming up in all my years here, but is anyone interested? I play a lot of Pathfinder and Starfinder.

Table top RPGs have always fascinated me. Since being a little kid whose big brother would play D&D with his friends but never allow me to join, I always jealously wanted to give it a try. 😁 As an adult, I finally went down to our local comic book store and caught on with a group of other adults playing 5e, but covid soon ended that.... which was fine because that group really didn't have time, patience, or willingness to humor a newbie. While having nobody to compare him to, the DM also just didn't seem very organized or consistent in what he did which left me feeling disappointed.

All this to say, as somebody with limited experience, and almost none of it good, I'm still a big fan of what it seems like tabletop RPGs can be. I'm a huge fan of baldur's gate 3 & how it implements D&D rules into a video game medium. I still purchase the new D&D rule books that come out just because I like to read through them and see how the game is evolving. Actually, just received the new Monster Manual last week which is just always a joy for me to flip through and makes me feel like a kid again.

Haven't played any other RPGs like Pathfinder and I know there are a ton of them out there now, but I will always have a soft spot talking about them or learning more about them!

I did D&D for many years and ended up trying Pathfinder because it was similar enough, but was easier to find games to play in when I was moving around and didn't know people.

I'm part of a group of friends that plays D&D 5e once per week on Roll20. We do voice chat using Discord. Being able to play D&D without the need to physically get together (we're located in different cities) and in the comfort of your own home definitely makes it easier to keep schedules. Even then it's not rare for someone to miss a week here and there.

I grew up on Star Frontiers (TSR game) as a kid.  They had a cool add-on called "Knight Hawks" as a pure ship-to-ship game.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

I'm able to get regular groups together sometimes, but a big part of why I stuck with Pathfinder and Starfinder is their organized play program makes it easy to play why my characters when I can and where I can and it's public so easy to join in. If anyone is curious there are locations all over the state and we communicate about the game days over discord https://discord.gg/cq7QMAYk4B

I think this is the way to go! I've seen some of the online tools and their growing ability to offer immersive online experiences that focus on visualization and sound, and it seems like it's only getting better. Like you said, being able to meet virtually and not be together physically also makes things easier to maintain.

Plus, the comic book store I went to when group hunting had a negative immersion factor, that being the constant smell of a cave trolls.

Yes as a now Illinois resident, my ability to try to recruit people I know is pretty much non-existent

I haven't played D&D for almost 40 years.  I used to DM in high school.  I was invited by some random guys in high school who were older and that game actually helped me to break out of my shell (with a +2 sharp sword of protection, no less).  I do miss it, but it takes time for DMs to come up with original campaigns that are worth while.

Although I am not playing now, this would still be a cool present:

In Case of Dragons Break Glass Shadow Box with Dice, Gift for nerds, gift for gamers, D&D Gift, DND Accessories, rpg gift, game room sign image 3

I'm basically waiting for retirement to do full on from scratch campaigns. I have found the quality of published campaigns and adventures has gotten really high and it has hit the sweet spot for me to be able to play and GM a lot without needing hours and hours of time outside the game.
