It was reported that Frelick was a bit banged up I thought, that might call for some additional depth in the OF to start the season. That and Turang's arm might be enough to make Collins' skillset particularly useful for the short term even if there are better fits to come.

They are going to make a lot of roster moves around the fringe players over the next month so a guy like Collins is going to have to impress immediately if he's going to stick

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I hadn’t grasped that we should be able to option Quintana (with his consent), then recall him as an emergency replacement for Cortes, when Cortes’ wife goes into labor in early April (by God’s grace). (credit to McCalvy)

They might also just be looking at Collins as a short term placeholder if Perkins’ rehab is going well.

Collins is filling the Perkins roster spot and that's consistent with how the team has operated in recent years with optionable players that aren't part of their core.  Other than at the end of blowouts, I don't think we'll see him carve out a role because he'll be sitting and watching.

So its looking like firs 4 in the rotation to start will be Peralta, Civale, Cortes, Patrick. Number 5 is a question mark. I dont trust Rodriguez to start so maybe some sort of Alexander-Thomas piggyback? Maybe Koenig for an inning or two and then give the ball to Alexander/Thomas/Rodriguez for 3-4?

Quintana will be 4th starter when he's ready early to mid April.

My guess is Peralta, Cortes, Civale, bullpen game, Patrick.

The bullpen game would indeed by some combination of maybe Koenig as an opener (he did this last year), Alexander, Rodriguez, and Thomas.

The Brewers pitching situation to start the year is frankly, very scary.

Need Quintana, Myers, and Woody back asap.

Those guys get ready by mid-May and the team isnt buried, we should be fine.

I think it's pretty unlikely that they do a bullpen game featuring all three of our long relievers the day before Patrick debuts. Think it's much more likely that they do two piggy back scenarios. One of Alexander/Thomas and one of Rodriguez/Patrick. Have them try and get 9-12 outs each.

Ashby seems like the most likely move, that or Woodruff depending on what his timeline is? The other injuries (Mears, Perkins) don't seem long term, and otherwise it's kind of tight roster wise. Who is the 40th man on the 40-man roster for a DFA at this point? Maybe one of the pitchers named Grant?
