Nice job, DIRECTV And MLB.tv on my Roku

super excited all day to watch a game finally and it’s the Reds broadcast only.  Even 669 on DIRECTV (the Wisconsin channel) has the Reds feed.   Grrr.

on my phone, I can at least get brewers radio.

oh well.  Still, a bit disappointed

Brewers aren't airing this game.  I'm watching it on Spectrum and I'm getting the Reds broadcast too.

I was going off what Jeff said on the air yesterday and this tweet from earlier.

maybe they had some technical issues and scrapped it.  Or it was always planned as a reds feed and someone was misinformed.

like I said, not the end of the world.  Just disappointing.

Ashby gets ahead 1-2 and then hits another batter

Hey if you're going to hit em, hit em when they least suspect it.

I don't really care about that run. Nice piece of hitting on a heater on the inner corner of the zone. I really like RHP Elvin Rodriguez. That's a quality signing.

That sums up the Tyler Black experience. He's just not going to save you a run. And then throws the ball to the backstop. I'm not saying that's an easy play. It isn't. BUT you just never know what you're going to get play-to-play on the infield.

I have said Black lacks everything except speed many times over the past 2 years and got nothing but grief.

The thing is, we can say "Oh it's a spring training game." And, yes, it absolutely is. I've seen those exact 50/50 plays swing entire games at Nashville. He had a two error game early in the 2024 season at 3B. They lost the game because of it, essentially. You can not have that at the MLB level. He kept the ball in front of him there. That's a plus move. Tip the cap. Would we like to see him stab that and save a run and save? Absolutely. We want that and we should expect that a majority of the time for a plus MLB 1B. BUT, in that instance, he kept the ball in front of his body. That's acceptable. BUT, then to throw that type of throw to the back stop? Come on. Can't have it. It's what is so frustrating about his entire body of infield work.

I'll keep going back to it: I personally feel, at this point, we're forcing a square peg in a round hole. Black's best position is the OF and it's by a considerable margin. I've seen the vast majority of his Minor League infield work. I've seen enough. It just is not dependable. The Brewers would be very very wise to settle him into an OF and DH role.

If Black cant catch a short hop of one foot at 1st he is not a 1st baseman, That is his job,

Not just catching perfect throughs.

Yup. Middendorf's throw was awful but an MLB caliber 1st baseman would've gotten the pick. Even then he kept in it front but man that throw was just hideous. The run was probably scoring but he should've at least put that within the reach of Haase

Everyone has a stellar play in them from time to time. Even Luke Voigt. What Black lacks is the ability to consistently make the routine plays.

It's the old adage: Make the routine, routine. Occasionally make the spectacular. Then, everyone forgets the rest.
