Wow. Complete game gem by Hernandez. That’ll save the bullpen. But still so impressive, as he has had a good season and is turning into this year’s Manuel Rodriguez - essentially giving you 5 IP per start, and generally very few walks which is how you do that.

After grabbing a tight win in the first game of today’s doubleheader, Low-A Carolina can take a 3-0 series lead with a victory behind RHP Bryan Rivera (4.43 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 10,6 K/9 in 20.1 IP) tonight. LF Demetrio Nadal and C Eric Martinez enter as lineup changes from Game 1..

As I was suspecting, no Adamczewski as of yet. I had heard he was hoping to be back by mid week but that felt optimistic. Backs are wicked tricky.

Mis is a top 10 prospect in baseball if this control is real.

If this control is real, you may have typed an extra digit.

Carolina added two more runs bottom three on an Eric Bitonti RBI double and Filippo Di Turi sac fly, now a 4-0 lead.

Payne reached on a fielders choice, stole two bases and scored one of the runs but was lifted after the inning for a defensive replacement.

Did he look like he hurt himself on any of those steals?

Just following along on GameDay. No injury delays were noted on the feed.

Shuckers with a little something going top five.

An Adams walk plus singles from Boeve and Pratt made it 4-2.

Wilken walks to load the bases and Lara flies out to CF for another run.

& a Warren groundout makes it 6-2.

Walk (Adams), single (Boeve), single (Pratt bloop hit), walk (Wilken) and a Lara sac fly and Biloxi gets 2 runs back. Now lead 5-2.

Cornielle was good  tonight, but not great, and at 71 pitches he may be done after 4 IP or may get a chance for the 5th but I doubt much more than that.

And Warren grounds in a force at second, and a run scores, now 6-2 Shuckers.

EDIT: updated the score as I was off by a run

I'd love to know the FB shape and velo of Bryan Rivera's FB because he seems to get pretty consistent whiffs with that pitch.

I wonder if at some point we just let the latin kids take the entire 1-9 in every lineup and only draft pitchers? Half kidding.

I hope Jadyn Fielder hablas a little espanol or it’s gonna be a long summer.

Guess he could always talk to the pitchers.

Dang it a couple of possible DP balls - the first one goes off Pratt's chest on the bounce right to Warren who gets the out at first.

Then a single.

Then the other grounder slow and high to Warren, who gets the lead runner and a good throw by Pratt makes it close but safe, so the run score.

Cornielle laboring to finish the 5ht. 6-3 lead now.

Carolina adding on with a Tyler Rodriguez HBP (there was an injury delay in the feed but he remains in the game…for now), Di Turi single, Nadal walk and Walling double making it a 6-1 Mudcats lead.

& another run scores on an E7.

Carolina just keeps on going, Eric Martinez double makes it 8-1.

Runners on 2nd & 3rd still only one out for Made who promptly sac flies a ninth Mudcat run to the plate.

And Cornielle goes up 1-2 in the count, but a nice pitch that Isaac lays off then two non-competitive pitches (#93 and#94) and comes out after 4.2 IP.

I said it with Alexander - his command needs to improve and he needs to be more efficient. He can get guys out with his stuff even if it's not overpowering, it is still good. But to move up he will have to clean up that command and get more outs quickly. But you can do it Alexander keep at it.

So I was looking and Rivera is through 5 IP with 85 pitches, so I wondered if they would try to have back-to-back CG, but with this long inning and big league, I wonder if they just go to the bullpen for the 6th/7th inning.

Looks like Kevin Ereu got his first hit to drive in Luis Corobo in Arizona.

Carolina up 10-1 and maybe it's Anfernny Reyes territory for Mudcats to give him a chance to get a couple of clean innings without pressure?

Shuckers -Restituyo walks and gets to third on a steal and an error, and almost scores but the throw bounces back to the pitcher midway down the 3rd base line and Adams walks but no it's called a strike?? But he walks on the next pitch nowhere close.

Shuckers fail to score with Adams CS after his walk, then Boeve K, and Pratt pop up

Merkel on to try to keep it a 6-3 lead. And retires the side 1-2-3. On to top of 7th.

And it is Hodges in for Carolina, but despite his hit tonight Bitonti is struggling mightily in low A. IN his last 13 games (since 4/24) coming into tongiht he is hitting .179 with 27 K in 56 AB with only 6 BB and 10 H. Gotta make some contact Eric as he 1-4 with a K tonight.
