Low-A Carolina’s Sunday matinee is underway, with the Mudcats needing a victory behind 6’4” LHP Sam Garcia (2.03 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 in 26.2 IP) to earn a 3-3 road series split. RF Reece Walling may be struggling for hits (.172 AVG), but he leads the team in walks (38) and runs (28).

If you had RHP Easton McGee (3.44 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 18.1 IP) as your Sunday Nashville spot starter, you should win a prize. The AAA Sounds lead their home series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 4 games to 1. C Anthony Seigler’s hitting streak is up to 14 games.

Wow. Would not have guessed that

Also would not have guessed that DiTuri would lead the team in HRs. And hits his 6th today. Nice

Garcia not very efficient but gets through 2 scoreless innings with 4 K. But at 38 pitches

Cesar Hernandez (7 HR)

Jackson Ross (6 HR)

Filippo Di Turi (6 HR)

Only guy on that list under 20, under 180 lbs, and under 6’0”.

Sam still working hard at 77 pitches through four innings with 2 H | 1 R | 3 BB | 5 K and a wild pitch.

Looks like his season high is 82 pitches so that will probably be it for him.

Or not??  He appears to back out in the 5th.

Couple of nice plays at SS - ranges up the middle on the first batter, and then snares a short hop. Helping Garcia out with the D. But Garcia gives up a single- maybe that will be it? No pitches another batter and another single. Ok. Gotta be nearing the end of his his start.  They are letting him try to compete 5 innings I guess.

Gets the first two batters to ground out to SS, then gives up back to back singles on his 93rd/94th pitches.

Looks like they're rolling with him for at least one more batter and he gets the strikeout to end the inning.

Impressive outing.

Have to tip the cap to Sam Garcia for eating a big 5 innings while pitching on 4 days rest. Completely blew past his previous high in pitches as well. 97 pitches today to 82 was the prior high.

Being an older college guy and not a high velocity pitcher - I think they were just going to let him push it a little. He will be off until ?Friday or Saturday?

Two walks to start the inning. And Bitonti up and trying to swing for the fences and misses badlu

and made picked off… no somehow steals a base without a pitch. Not sure what happened as the camera didn’t catch it.

Made walks & steals second, Anderson walks, Made steals third to get runners on the corners nobody out.

Bitonti strikes out and now we've got Babe Di Turi at the plate trying to cash them in as Anderson steals second.

He is trying to break out of his season long slump. But Bitonti just looked bad striking out. It’s gonna need some patience with him - power bats do take more time to develop.

Keep being amazed how young that line up is. 6 of 9 position players are still teenagers, and only 2 can drink alcohol legally.  And that’s with Adamczewski (just turned 20) and Peña and Payne on the shelf.

Meanwhile opposing pitchers have been 23, 22 and now 25 for the Nationals.

And the line up has only 3 guys 20 or younger - and Vaquero on the bench.
