Oh, man, you have to read this.  This is a doozie.  File under "only in Louisiana".

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46773515/gov-jeff-landry-critical-ad-scott-woodward-amid-lsu-shakeup

There are some interesting points in here, though.  It sounds like the Governor is more at issue with the contract given out to Kelly and not necessarily the choice of Kelly, specifically the buyout.

The Governor also said, "We're gonna make sure that he's compensated properly, and we're gonna put metrics on it because I'm tired of rewarding failure in this country and then leaving the taxpayers to foot the bill."  (Can you imagine a Governor in Wisconsin saying the word, "gonna"?)

Putting metrics in a contract will be interesting, and if they do, will metrics then become the standard or will other schools who are hiring use that against LSU in an effort to get a better coach?

Landry is a clown. Most people I know down here find him an embarrassment. The taxpayers in theory are on the hook for the buyout, but in reality it will be paid by boosters.

With all the amazing things AI can do now why can't they change the live image of that god-awful blue field that Boise State plays on when you're watching?

The Franklin hire seems like a great fit for both side.  Franklin likely has a huge recruiting net, but going from Vandy to Penn State to Virginia Tech, he's staying in the region where the roots are probably the deepest.  Virginia Tech hasn't been able to recapture that Beamer magic, Franklin should put them back in 9+ win territory year-in and year-out.

So Kotelnicki went from hot Badger head coaching prospect to nothing when Franklin got fired.  I wonder if Franklin will hire him at Virginia Tech, because there is little to no chance the next Penn State coach keeps him.  If Kotelnicki does not go to Virginia Tech, I have to wonder about the chances of him being Wisconsin's offensive coordinator next year.  The Badgers have scored a pitiful total of 47 points in 7 Big 10 games.  Grimes got stuck in a bad spot and definitely does not deserve all the blame for that, but it's hard seeing him surviving.  Kotelnicki is definitely a guy who should get an interview if Grimes is out.

college kickers, man.

also they should have gone for it

agreed, I was kind of shocked they were playing for the tie.

Either do away with conference championship games altogether (never will happen because $$), or have them mean something when you get trounced like Bama did and give other teams with reasonable resumes a chance to win a national title.  I dont see how you could win a natty when you arent competitive in a game to win your conference.  I get Miami in over the Irish, but ND should be in over 3 loss Bama.

CFB is trash, and as I suspected the larger the playoff field there is, the more ridiculous the selection process is.

College football feels like a test for how far late stage capitalism can go before people stop watching. Soon the playoff bracket will be based entirely on which matchups generate the most TV dollars. And people will still watch.

And now ND wont play in a bowl at all...lol

So, I get why they're upset they didn't get into the playoff, but just a thought - maybe join a flipping conference so you get an opportunity to win a conference title and write your ticket automatically.

I also know ND's conference as a whole next year is a complete joke

Tin foil hat time they were left out to try to send a message and force their hand.  Disclaimer I don't know if the ncaa cares enough to do something like this, but it would be funny if true.

Like a bad sci-fi movie.

The people deciding the playoff teams have a financial stake in the decisions that they make.

Can't say I feel bad for Notre Dame or their fans. The reality check of being a small fish in a big sea of superconferences must hit hard.

Has anyone else seen this reporting of a 17 year old QB, turns 18 on Christmas eve, is being forced to sign a letter of intent for Tennessee by his mom/brother even though he wants to go to Ohio st?  Since he is currently 17 legally he would need a parents signature on the form.

This is wild to me if true.  I don't see how Tennessee isn't like we are withdrawing our offer since it's clear the kid doesn't want to come here and will just back out when he's 18 anyway.

Also not lost on me is how the SEC used their influence to guarantee as smooth a path as possible for UGA to get to the semifinals and set the bracket up for both IU and Ohio State to have actual quarterfinal games in this format.

Bama loses at home to Oklahoma a few weeks ago, so naturally that head-to-head means nothing and they get to play each other again before facing Indiana.  Ohio State then plays the winner of Miami and TX A&M....meanwhile UGA, who is ranked behind both OSU and Indiana will face a coachless Ole Miss team after they dismantle Tulane the week prior.

Oregon on same side of bracket as the Hoosiers, but at least that head to head rematch wouldn't potentially happen until the semifinals - and I think they should have adjusted seeding to knock Ole Miss down due to Kiffin leaving and bumped A&M up to 6, setting up a 2nd round game between UGA and A&M.

If they're going to stick with these mega conferences who hardly ever have their best programs play each other in the regular season enough to really sort out who's best in each conference, I think the better approach to this playoff garbage is to have mini-playoffs to determine each conference winner (top 4 teams in each conference have a 4 team playoff to determine conference champs).  Then the winner of each of those power 4 conferences gets the bid to a 4 team playoff.  Tell Notre Dame to join the damn ACC as a football team like the rest of their athletic program, and move on.  If the mid/lower tier college football D1 conferences don't like that, have them form their own bowl subdivision and forget the charade that any of them could be competitive against the blue bloods.

Michigan has initiated an investigation into their athletic department, led by a Chicago-based law firm:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/47294863/michigan-begins-investigation-athletic-department

But, of course, the NCAA hasn't launched an investigation.  Sherrone Moore, Matt Weiss, Connor Stalions, Harbaugh...

You know, you can't sanction the blue bloods like Michigan, Penn State... however, give some discounts on shoes to players at other schools, and that you have to sanction.

Like UW, Michigan's AD is a former football player who played for Schembechler in the late 80's.

OSU should be favored by at least 14 next weekend against whoever wins this dumpster fire of a A&M - Miami "playoff" game.  It's windy, but it's even more unwatchable

College football sucks

I hadn’t paid much attention to the playoff…what in the heck are Tulane and James Madison doing in the playoff??? And Texas A&M didn’t win a single challenging game all year.

I think its the highest 5 ranked conference championship get auto bids, so after Virginia's loss it opened the door for 2 of the lesser options.  And a&m is in because when you play sec cupcakes in the beginning of the year they aren't cupcakes because they were ranked then.

Tulane and James Madison got their lunch handed to them.  Not a surprise at all.  Notre Dame was probably better than either of them.

This year is showing that a 12-team playoff is not necessary.
