How about those rookies?

Chad Patrick, the least-heralded, leading MLB in pitcher-fWAR for rookies. Misiorowski does his Bob Feller-thing. Uribe, still rookie-eligible according to fangraphs, has one of the best seasons for a Brewer reliever, which is saying something.

Collins and Durbin who at different points in the season, were leading contenders for rookie-of-the-year. And this is coming off of a 2024, where Chourio and Ortiz both had rookie seasons of 3+ fWAR, (and 2023, where Turang, Frelick, Perkins, and Monasterio were rookies).

This new core of Milwaukee Brewers Baseball is young and successful. The vets do their vet-things, but the meat and potatoes of this team were raised on the farm (or plucked from other farms).

The most amazing thing about last night to me was how after Mis gave up that HR on a 101 mph fastball, the entire pitching staff shifted towards breaking pitches...AND PULLED IT OFF. Mis started throwing curves, sliders, and many fewer fastballs. (Final count was 23 sliders, 14 curveballs, and just 17 fastballs) Patrick did the same with his rarely used slurve. And then Abner recorded six outs with no strikeouts and very few heaters. The Cubs feasted on the fastball and three very young and relatively inexperienced pitchers won without relying as heavily on their most comfortable pitch, didn't walk a ton of batters, and held the Cubs scoreless the rest of the way. Amazing guts and execution in one of the most important games in franchise history.

Found a good article that goes into this a little bit...

Yeah he was throwing it around 95-96 last night, but it was just enough difference from his fastball to be effective. Most importantly he threw enough of them for strikes. Same with the curve which he was throwing at 86-87.

Misiorowski's slider to me just looks like a slow (for him) fastball lol. There's barely any movement on it, but it's usually effective.

I’m not advanced at understanding these charts but it seems Miz’s fastball moves way more than his slider. If you are a RHP expecting 101 mph cutting in and get 96 mph breaking away, that probably is meaningful. 🙂🤷‍♂️

If the Brewers have success moving forward, I'm not sure it can be properly stated just how much value there was in getting our butts kicked in Wrigley and that hostile environment for these young cats.

LA will be crazy but it won't be as hostile as Wrigley was. Our young ones, I hope, grew up quite a bit in those moments and we will be so much more prepared this week for the circus.

Did I just hear that Miz is now tied for most playoff wins in Brewers history?!

Tied with Jhoulys Chacin and Mike Caldwell with 2.  Names like Peralta, Woodruff, Burnes, Greinke, Gallardo, Sutton, Fingers, Haas, Vuckovich all with a single win.
