Someone (I think it was @adambr2) in the game thread said that risk is more for 2027 than 2026

Dec 1, 2026 is when the lockout will start, about a month after the Dodgers 3rd straight WS parade.

When it will end is anyone's guess - mine would be sometime before the 2029 regular season.

Id want Miz, Patrick, Freddy, Gasser, and Priester in the rotation...although Henderson and Woodruff are definite possibilities, too.

I gave my thoughts on Freddy in the other thread so I won’t repeat it, but I’d like to keep him.

so I’ll tier my rotation like this

veteran lock

1) Freddy

young guy locks

2) Priester

3) Misiorowski

young guys to battle it out ranked in order of current preference

4) Henderson

5) patrick

6) gasser

7) myers

guys I think should be in the bullpen and I don’t really think they should stretch them out

8) Ashby

9) Hall

Probably added to the 40 man this winter

10) Crow

woodruff: If they can work something out with him I’d be happy to have him back.

if both Freddy and Woody are back, they might not need to sign a veteran. If 1 or both are gone then we probably need to bring in a veteran. Tough to pin point who that will be because it’s probably similar to a Quintana situation where it would happen late in the off season.

Under no circumstances would I be trading Freddy.  There is a good team here.  Gotta take a shot every once in a while.

Here is my crazy scenario:

if Detroit makes Skubal available, I am at that table.  Prospects like Pratt, one of Quero/Dinges, Pitchers like Gasser (not Miz or Logan Henderson).

Baseball is about to change.  Take a shot with what you have before a work stoppage.

You roll with:

1. Skubal

2.  Freddy

3.  Woodruff on a one year prove it (he’s not getting a big deal).

4.  Miz

5.  Priester

6.  Logan Henderson

Hall, Patrick and Ashby are the 2 inning guys.

Megill, Koenig, Uribe are the back end.

Call me crazy!  But let’s push some chips into the center and make a play.

Woody & the Brewers decline the mutual option, then Woody accepts a qualifying offer or agrees to a one year deal with some kind of option tacked on the end.

Ok. So I’m still confused- this old man brain can’t do this so well anymore- it’s a mutual option. The brewers are on the hook for $10M at least right? What if Woodruff declined his option first?

And if they both decline it we can offer a QO and he either accepts it or if he signs with a team we get a draft pick?

What if Brewers pick it up first- I mean it’s $10M extra which is a low additional cost for a vet who can reasonably provide a solid half year of front end starting pitching.  But if they do and he declines can they still offer a QO?

Anyway - I’m torn on running it back with Freddy and Woody and seeing what a full year of Priester, Patrick and Miz can do with Gasser, Henderson in the wings. Or let Woody go (maybe with a QO) and trade Freddy (albeit with either a less than exciting return), and see what Miz, Priester, Patrick, Henderson, Gasser can do gaining experience in a transition year before the possible shutdown in 2027 season.

I don’t think the order of operations matters at all, if Woody hits FA the Brewers can make a QO.

Big questions with the QO would be (1) are the Brewers wiling to pay Woody $22M for one year if he accepts and (2) if he declines will Woody be able to get at least $50M in free agency coming off injury with the QO attached heading into his age 33 season?

If he gets at least $50M the Brewers get a pick before Comp Round A, if he comes in under that number the pick would be after Comp Round B.

The rotation needs Peralta’s innings, performance and veteran leadership.

Patrick with his slurve might be the most underrated starter, stuff-wise, in the game. Then add in his moxie-grit-bulldog mentality and you have a TOR starter for the 2026 season.

I think Miz can get to 175 innings and that will give the team 3 top of the rotation starters.

Priester, as is, is a nice mid-rotation starter, but after more time working with the team’s PDS I’m hoping for, but not expecting a little more.

Gasser another offseason past his TJ surgery should continue to get stronger. Prior to his injury he was showing signs of being more than a solid back of the rotation starter.

Henderson, as is, is another mid-rotation-type starter even with a mostly 2-pitch mix thanks to both pitches being above average to plus pitches thrown with good command. Adding the SL/cutter he can command will go a long way to making him more than that. Hopeful he can get that pitch down.

Hoping we see Ashby converted back to starter. He has the arsenal to be an eventual #2/3 starter and with better command more than that.

That’s a really strong 7 deep. With a full offseason to add more depth and an upper-minors with 5-6 intriguing depth arms as well, I’m super confident in the starter arms we have giving this team the ability to win a WS with average health and a little bit of good luck.

I only want to move him if someone is willing to pay up.  By pay up, I mean by us getting a BIG bat for the OF or 3B in return that is MLB ready NOW!  That is our need, a BIG BAT!

To be honest, if all we can get for him is the equivalency of DL Hall and Joey Ortiz, then I'd rather hang onto him for his last season.  His value to the starting rotation is far greater than another Hall and Ortiz, especially with all the talent that is going to be knocking on our door after this season.

If there is a 2 year lock out just fold up the league.
