Biggio's 3000

That's awesome. Always cheered for the guy. Being a "small guy" myself I always root for the smaller dudes to do well.

Glad to see someone like Biggio who I've never heard from in the offseason (which is a good thing - contracts, arrests, etc) do well.

Congrats Craig Biggio, a Hall of Famer. I've always respected this guy's game, and I'm glad there are now some numbers out there that will illustrate to the casual fan that this guy could/can play!

Kind of tacky to get thrown out on a boneheaded baserunning mistake during your greatest moment in baseball, no?

tacky? Maybe unfortunate. Congratulations to Craig Biggio, the newest Mr. 3000!

Can't ask for any more humility & class from an athlete. And sheesh - where hasn't he been willing to play for that organization! Class act.

It wasn't tacky...it was intentional. I was watching the game on TV here in Houston and Bagwell was in the booth a few innings earlier saying that his 3000th hit was definitely going to be a double...that he was going to second no matter what. I am sure he wasn't going to second no matter what, but he had already decided that if there was any reasonable way to make his 3000th a double he was going for it. Yeah, it might have been a stupid and a little selfish (especially in a close game), but I am sure he had been thinking about it for so long that he couldn't have stopped himself if he tried.

Congrats to Craig...he has always been a class guy...and I loved how he pulled Bagwell out to help him celebrate. Bagwell has really gotten a bad rap around here and he doesn't deserve it.

3000 and all for one team way to go Craig. I liked his reference to running everything out hard like the previous players did in their time. He is proud of that and I hope some Brewers took note.

There is only 9 members of the 3,000 hit club that got all the hits with one team...I know the following 4 who are the other 5?

2. Stan Musial-(per Robert)

3. Biggio-Astros

4. Tony Gywnn-Padres

5. Carl Yastremski-Red Soxs (per Peavy)

6. Roberto Clemente-Pirates (per Peavy)

7.George Brett-Roylas (per Peavy)

8. Cal Ripkin Jr. O's (Per bball)

9. Al Kaline (per Robert)

Edit: added names and now the list is complete thanks guys

Ty Cobb played for the Tigers and A's (Philly for 2 or 3 years) and Carew played for the Angels and Twins.

Lou Brock started out with the Cubs.

Grats Biggio! Hopefully that's all the celebrating that's going on down there for awhile. (Sorry Houston.. but stay at the bottom of the division!)

Yeah, it was a good day for legit milestones -- between his 3,000th hit and Thomas' 500th HR. (None of the nose-holding that we're bound to see later this summer with Bonds.)

I was watching as well and the commentators kept saying #3000 should be a double. It seems they all just figured it would be appropriate that his biggest hit was a signature double.

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

Cobb, Aaron, and Mays played for more than one team each, but they got all of their first 3,000 hits playing for just one team.

So, technically, they should be included on the list.
