Brewers signed C Reese McGuire to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The Brewers had been eyeing McGuire as a backup for William Contreras, and he may still win that job, but the team has not committed an MLB contract to him as of yet. The 30-year-old hit .226/.245/.444 in 140 plate appearances for the Cubs last season but continued to post positive framing grades behind the plate, which we know the Brewers value.

I just heard of 'the parking lot event in 2019'. Reese was wildin'! Shows to go you: If you have talent, personal life snafus are easily overlooked. Hope he's found some inner Peace since that unfortunate exposure.

Maybe thats why they signed Reece with minor contract. They can see by comparison if he's ready for backup outperforming Reece. If he doesnt look like the better catcher, Milw can extend the ML contract to Reece.

This makes sense.  Quero sitting on the bench 6 days a week does not.

 

I'll be surprised if this isn't Contreras' last season as a Brewer (I'm assuming/hoping Quero has a good year at AAA).

IMHO they are grooming Quero to be their everyday catcher as soon as next season and they need to know if he can do it - he needs to play every day.
