High-A Wisconsin play at Dodgers’ affiliate Great Lakes this week, with 21-year old LHP Wande Torres (6.28 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 in 28.2 IP) starting the opening game. CF Braylon Payne is 6-for-13 with 2 homers, 2 doubles and 2 walks over his last 3 games.

Timber Rattlers bullpen unfortunately threatening to blow a 5-0 lead here in the 8th inning. It's 5-3 with the bases loaded and 1 out.

Posted

5-4 now and still bases loaded with 1 out. Low got a pop up to open the inning then walked the next three batters. Yerlin Rodriguez came in and hasn't gotten a batter out.

Posted

Yerlin fell behind 3-0 then fired off 6 straight strikes for two strikeouts to get out of the inning with the 5-4 lead still intact.

Braylon Payne might be good.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

So exciting what he's doing to start this season. Still only 20 years old.

Looks like we got the full Andrew Fischer experience today. 3-5 with a 440 ft bomb, but then K's in his final two AB's on breaking balls in the dirt.

I think it might be time for Quinton Low to  consider switching back to hitting a baseball.

Freddy Zamora just hit a game tying 3-run HR in the 9th inning. 421ft blast

Where is our '!!' emoji?! 😅

Nashville wins 6-5 for their 8th Win in a row. Whew. Amazing. 3-run Zamora bomb alluded to above. And an Eddys Leonard double (first RBI of the inning) then key Pratt and Lara (winning RBI) singles pull led the Sounds ahead. Knehr admirably shuts the door as a replay review confirms his final strike looking for the K to end it.

Not a cheap shot. The art or crushing a hanger:

Don't look now but the Sounds just snuck past Louisville (Reds) into sole possession of the International League second place - they suddenly trail the League leading Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) by a mere 1/2 G! Zesty!

@wiguy94 continued to believe in Payne well after I was struggling to see the forest for the trees. Man alive he is on an unreal trajectory right now. This 2nd HR poke is incredible and, heck, almost casual!

Well, I do quietly wonder if Low - given his raw goods - doesn't get the Yerlin long leash?

Really encouraging to see Fischer start to make more contact with that type of pop. Man alive those Volunteers take serious hacks. High-A is a heck of an adjustment period from the college game. Seems like he is learning the nuances of hitting to go with the raw tools. Same can be said for Payne starting to hit more. I don't think they should be rushed up right when they are starting to figure it out! Adamczewski has nothing left to prove at this level.

Rob Z with a ten pitch 3U3D2K frame in the Sounds win.

Wande Torres put up his best start of the year going six scoreless with 2 H | 1 BB | 6 K before the bullpen theatrics.

From the tail end of Monday's Link Report:

"Both the Sounds and Timber Rattlers play at 10:05 Central on Tuesday, so I'll be sampling some Jeff Hem and Chris Mehring during my four-hour drive to a New Hampshire getaway"

This was wild. I jumped on board just in time for the final two innings of the T-Rats drama, and then immediately transitioned to the hold-your-breath 9th inning with Nashville. A wonderfully entertaining 45 minutes or so, though I'm guessing I was the only person in the White Mountains to pull up Chris' and Jeff's calls today. Sounded great, guys!

The AA Shuckers host White Sox affiliate Birmingham this week, with recently homer-prone RHP Manuel Rodriguez (5.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 33.1 IP) starting tonight. DH Mike Boeve (.748 OPS in 154 PAs) has reached safely in 15 of his last 16 games.

Low-A Wilson have won 10 of 15 games and host Orioles’ affiliate Delmarva tonight. We welcome back 20-year old RHP Enniel Cortez (7 IP, 8 ER, 6 Ks) from an April 16 injury. 2B Juan Ortuno has an 11-game on-base streak.

Brady Ebel’s first career homer is a 3-run shot to give Wilson a 5-3 lead in the 2nd inning.

Jose Anderson followed with a solo homer 3 pitches later (his 9th of the season).
