Despite a bout of wildness in his last MLB start, the Milwaukee Brewers are giving Robert Gasser another shot.

The Brewers on Wednesday called up the left-hander from Triple-A Nashville to start Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. To make room on the 26-man roster, the Brewers placed left-handed reliever Rob Zastryzny on the 15-day injured list with a strained left trapezius.

Gasser has made two starts for the Brewers this season, the last one coming May 23 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gasser walked four and gave up four runs in 4⅓ innings in an 11-3 loss. He was sent down the next day. Gasser walked two in four innings of his May 17 start vs. the Minnesota Twins, a 5-4 loss.

Zastryzny had just returned Sunday from the injured list, where he had been since spring training due to a strained left shoulder. While Zastryzny didn't appear in any of the three games he was on the roster for, he is now dealing with another shoulder-related injury.

The Brewers also have announced that right-hander Coleman Crow will start Thursday's finale against the Giants.

Not thrilled with this, but he's the Brewers starter tonight, so let's go Gasser.

I agree with those who were excited about his short run of success in 2024, and I really hope he can find that success again.  I'm not convinced it will happen, but like last night's bunt with Rengifo (which eventually plated two runs on Yelich's 2 out hit), I'm happy to be (and admit) that I'm wrong if Gasser gives us a chance to win tonight.

When healthy, I think my preferred starting 5 (based on results this season) are:

Miz, Harrison, Patrick, Henderson, and Crow ... if we try and keep our guys fresh with no days off... I'm good with either Sproat/Gasser in the mix, just so long as we're not giving those two an equal number of starts as Miz/Harrison.

Can I address the fact that Rob Z is on the IL again? I must have missed the fact that he was hurt again, but his injury history is ridiculous.

Yeah, he didn’t even pitch, and he’s hurt again? Seems like it was a little premature to activate him off the 60 if he wasn’t ready. Now the entire clock starts again.

Reminds me of the dude (looked the name up, Justin Wilson) a couple years ago who was warming up to make his season debut after being out for over a year with TJ and got hurt again and never ended up pitching for us.

The Crow/Drohan/Gasser to Patrick and going 9 innings combined has been huge the couple times it has worked that way. The pen is rested for the day game.

I feel like it is time to give Yoho some run in the bullpen. He has been so good in AAA, he really just had a blowup inning last year that put a sour note in everyone's mouth.

I was hoping to see Hardin but it probably is a good idea to make him have more than 3 good starts to earn the promotion an 40 man spots. Gasser was solid.

If the Brewers need a mop up guy to eat innings it would be nice to give Yoho a shot and see if he can work his way up and gain confidence in himself and Murphy, There is a near zero chance Woodford will pitch high leverage innings in the playoffs but maybe Yoho could get there someday.
