You are probably right. Having said that, some teams have learned that investing that much money can hamstring an organization. The Brewers are one team that has been taught that lesson.

I don’t understand how “so many teams can offer more for him?” Can you explain that? Who has more to trade than Milwaukee?

I'd have a pretty firm standard as a GM. I'm not trading away projectable young arms who have little value... or offensive players for that matter up the middle... I strongly disliked the Jorge Quintana inclusion in that trade last year). He was too young, the return already skewed in SD's favor(IMO). 

It's not because I think Quintana or Dubaniwiecz is going to be a star,.. but I think he's got plenty of time to become one and I'd much rather give away a guy like O'Rae and Dorchies.. which should be enough for Wart. 

 

Again, this is the problem with the system. That's not an unreasonable ask for 25+ teams in the league.

The Milwaukee Brewers, that may be Braylon Payne. That may be a 19-year-old in HiA with 70 grade speed, he's a 6'2 185LB Left handed hitter with a nice swing, draws walks.

Doesn't hit for much power, but he's projectable... and then he started hitting for power this year and he's hitting ~.290/.390/575 with an OPS of ~965 and 18 HRs from a slap hitting 19 year old in HiA. 

It's kinda insane. 

It'd have to be a Matthew Wood+ type of guy. Maybe Wilken, they may hope he can turn it around(or just stay healthy). 

I suspect you're pretty close in your assessment of where Payne fits right now on the Brewers' prospect list. And no, he shouldn't go for a rental like Ward.

I'm sure Wilkin is available. And Mike Boeve has played RF in recent games after never having played there before in his pro career; something might be up there. I'd try to sell someone on Damian Miller before giving up Wood but that might not fly. I know it wouldn't if I was on the other side.
