Tue. 8/4: Hit the Road, Jack (and Jack, and Jack, and Jack)

I will miss seeing Frias and Ragsdale in the boxscores but I guess that comes with the territory of trade deadline season. Wondering if we'll start to see some '26 draftees make their debuts this week along with some promotions for current guys (Payne to Biloxi).

The biggest shock to me this trade deadline was the lack of movement to "unclutter" the log jam of guys that are holding up promotions.

As mentioned above, the only guy who has a fairly obvious promotion now available is Payne.

Not that you trade guys just to trade guys... but I thought teams would be all over our phone lines to get some of our AA and AAA "extras".

I agree - completely surprised by that.  I would have expected Carlos Rodriguez to at least been tradeable or part of the Colorado trade - like add in Rodriguez for a low level prospect back to us; or Tyler Black even. Manfredi was in the discussion on protect or not, but not much else. Now he is going to a team for free.

Outside of letting Frias go - yes a MLB pitcher is still more valuable than a low A talented prospect - I was more surprised by the lack of upper level "blocked" prospects moving.

Which reminds me - can milb trades still happen, or is there no trades after the deadline?

I really am curious where the org had Frias internally. Seems like we all got way to wrapped up in national hype. To give that up for a rental they had to be much much lower.

That is a good point. I do wonder what the FO has : like Lara, Adamczewski, Payne, Strosnider as a top 4 followed by others? Maybe they even like Antunez or Jones more than Frias?? Time will tell

This may explain some of the holes that concerned the organisation

Thank you for relaying the data! My main concern even going back to the ACL is just how unorthodox and steep the swing is. The young man is handling Low A better than I expected though so credit to him. Do I feel like we got apt value back? No, I still don't but this is an extremely risky profile. It reminds me a little of Ernesto Martinez when he was in the system. The average launch angle tells me there needs to be an overhaul (something the Brewers have frankly failed at numerous times with talented athletes). I feel like this trade will be an all or nothing. Either the front office is gonna look good in a year or two or this will be one that will keep them up at night similar to the White Sox and Tatis. Ragsdale is a tough loss too it is possible we'll look back one day and say "damn he came out of nowhere and was decent in the league for a decade" This team has a knack for trading the right prospects so it will all be a waiting game. IF May can provide 5-6 innings scoreless in the playoffs all will be forgiven.

I will toot my own horn and say the org. is making me feel good on my Antunez>Frias call back in June.

Gosh, I really expected to see a Payne to Biloxi message today...

What are they waiting for, or do they just feel like it's best to let Payne mash in A+ for the full season?

Totally agree.

Perhaps some moves to AAA from Biloxi open up something for Dickinson or even Pena, but Payne certainly looks like an obvious move. Maybe Ebel gets a cup of coffee in Wisconsin before it's all said & done.

My hot take was that Payne should have always been in Frias' spot from an OFP perspective. Is it a stretch to say that is 70 grade raw power? Obviously doesn't translate in game yet. But he hits absolute tanks.

Out on the island the Blue Crew beat the Cleveland Mendoza Crew. Matos with another 2 hit performance. 18-year old Luis Aguayo with another nice start,.

‘The Brewers Gold lose to the Pirates, because you know all Brewers teams are contractually obligated to lose to a Pirates team 🙄😩 sheesh. Moneys 0-1 but with 3 BB, and the team drew 8 walks, but only 3 hits. Solid start by Daniel Garcia, who like Derlin Garcia looks like a string ACL candidate next health permitting.

While we are on the subject, many alive the Brewers are just struggling against the Pirates 1-6 on the year. The lone win against the MLB Pirates was when the Brewers were 13-13 going on 14-13 the last time brewers were .500.  They have really stunk against the lesser teams in the league (Giants, Tigers, A’s, Nats, Pirates)

Payne with a 2-3 night with 7 total bases (HR, 3B). And Antunez with 2 hit night.

Luis Castillo just annihilated a ball to right field 109 mph 420 ft, and the RF did not move. 9-3 TRats in the 9th, that’s some insurance runs!

The Shuckers just scored 6 runs in the 9th to tie things up. Made with 3 hits and Burke with 4 so far.

And Dinges with a 2 run HR in the 10th. Then they load the bases with only 1 out. But Boeve Ks, and Wood grounds out facing the OF Kilpatrick who came on to pitch. Could have blown it wide open. But what a comeback. Now need to get 3 outs before giving up 2 runs please. But is Biloxi pitching so who knows?

So, just plug Dinges in to take Ragsdale's spot in the lineup.  And then pray he imitates what Josiah was doing.

That means Payne tied the T-Rats home record with his 22nd!
