Is Andrew Vaughn Too Short to Be a Viable First Baseman?

No and that wasn’t the point.  The point was with Yelich on the team it is unlikely the Brewers resign Bauers and keep Vaughn.  They are more likely to subtract both than keep both.  It all has to do with payroll and Yelich is the biggest problem payroll wise.

Disagree, the Brewers shown they don't mind paying guys in the short term with little risk. The most likely outcome is they keep one of Bauers/Vaughn, just a matter of who. Pretty slim chance they get rid of both.

It seems pretty clear they see him on the left side of the IF, most likely 3B. 

His glove at SS is good, but they signed Pratt. They don't really have a 3B. He's got good hands, not great, but plenty good, a cannon for an arm and they're about 3 deep at every OF position(a big hyperbolic, but not much). 

I'd be shocked if they were considering HIM for the OF. Pena... maybe as there might be a year or 2 that he's backing up Turang or doesn't really have a position, but I'd guess Made is a 3B.

They dont mind a short term solution if they feel there is a real gap or their guy isnt ready. They had nobody knocking at first base, when they got Hoskins, Vaughn, etc. Its different now with so many options in the upper levels and not wanting to block them. They just want to upgrade pitching wherever possible now.

They will likely nip at the edges again for stopgaps like with Rengifro. But the only splash amongst position players is trying to deal from prospect depth to a team that needs multiple guys in exchange for a bigger young piece with a lot of service time left.  But that seems more of a longshot to find those kinds of deals like back in the Yelich days.

Keep Bauers? He’s a top 5 in the MVP! He’s gone. Vaughn…I hope they keep him at 10 per next season and bring up a lefty to fill Bauers’ shoes a bit.  They have Burke as a prime candidate. Seems almost ideal to have a guy like Vaughn stay in house and have a rookie share some at bats.

I couldn't believe some article manufacturing concern about the height of our 2nd 1st baseman got to 2 pages, but I see this thread is mostly about next year's first base options.

Bauers' free agency will be fascinating. He seems like a perfect candidate to get vastly overpaid by some team in the AL West. I will always be a huge Bauers fan --- even before his career year. Just like other guys that have recently left the team (Adames, Tobias Myers, Tyrone Taylor, Adrian Houser, Blake Perkins, etc.), Bauers has been a model teammate and pro that a manager can count on to be ready and to give his best that day. I hope the Angels give him a 10-year deal.

As Rick says above, Vaughn is kinda perfect for the Crew next year, whatever he costs in arbitration. Burke is a great candidate to offer as a platoon, if the Brewers decide to use a roster spot for a part-time 1B/DH only. But I think that question belongs in a Yelich thread.
