Just to be clear, I’ve seen Wild Bill slow trot to 1st on probably half a dozen balls in the Pat Murphy era on plays where the ball was misplayed or momentarily bobbled, and he likely would have been safe, without so much as a mention in the postgame presser, much less a benching.

Remember that Pratt also didn’t run hard out if the box on Saturday when he hit a check swing dribbler down the first base line. He then had to hustle and barely beat it out when Perez dropped the ball.

I said at the time that he probably got a talking to after that, so a second offense earned him a spot on the bench. 

Whether he would have made it to second or not isn’t the point. If he’s running hard out of the box he puts himself in a position to possibly get to second if the ball isn’t handled cleanly.

I paused the game & backed up to Pratt’s at bat. Murph had to think that he didn’t hustle out of the box. No way he was removed for not stretching it to two bases. He would have been out with a decent throw by a mediocre RF. I don’t appreciate or agree with such decisions. He’s too inconsistent in how he disciplines his players.
