Brewers Top Prospects now?

Posted
So now with Inman traded for Linebrink. Braun, Gallardo and Parra probably up to the bigs to stay, who are the Brewers top prospects? Im not to familiar with any of the other prospects besides the ones that are already up with us.

I think I answered my own question. According to the latest Power 50 from July 8th; Angel Salome, Matt LaPorta and Jeremy Jeffress. And Salome recently got busted for steroids.

Yeah thanks MaasHaas thats what I decided to look at.

I have a good feeling about the guy, amongst superb scouting reports and eye-boggling production. Extend that production out to a full season with a BA 100 points lower. It is amazing for a guy his age. I'm totally geeked about the guy. He's my reverse Corey Hart.

#2 for LaPorta? Has a #1 pick rated that high so early? I'm not disagreeing, just wondering.

Weeks started at #4. I don't think anyone else (besides LaPorta) has started top 5 since the Power 50 started coming out. LaPorta was #5 his first time.

Considering how low Braun started, that is quite a debut for Matt. If he stays healthy, he might go up quickly.

Where exactly does LaPorta play in the field? I hear his defense is questionable. He can't play 1B either.

He'll be in left field unless he proves he can't hack it. I'm assuming he's at 1B now because his quad's not at 100%.

LaPorta will be able to play LF at worst as well as Carlos Lee. At best, well, better than that.

How high do you see his ceiling? I've been hearing Hafner and even Ramirez for his ceiling.

Let's not get me going on the steroid talk....let's just say that the substance he tested positive for probably was something other than "steroids". Thanks!

How long was Angel suspended for?

I am extremely excited about LaPorta, Jeffress, Brewer, Gindle and LuCroy as well. I also believe that Alicedes will be a starting second basemen in this league for a long time. Gamel is, at best, a poor outfielder and an awful thrid basemen. He seems like an Oakland kind of guy, where he could DH. He sure can hit though. Cain, Gillespie, Ford, and Fermaint all have high ceilings, and you have to think at least one of them will reach it. My favorite guy might be Brewer though. He just gushes with talent, and he could easily supplant J.J. if Hardy doesn't progress from where he is at. We have a ton of quality hitters coming our way.

Alcides Escobar actually is a shortstop, and an outstanding one at that. He has a rifle arm and makes major league plays. After seeing him play in Huntsville, I'd say his defense looks major league ready. The bat is another story, and he could also use a few more pounds on his frame. Like 50+ pounds.

In response to the quote above, I am wondering what your judgement of Gamel being a "poor outfielder at best" is based upon. Have you EVER seen him play an outfield position or are you just assuming? Please explain.
