uniform numbers for call-ups

Now that the Cubs series is over, I'm probably out of Brewers games I'll get to see on TV this year, living out of the Brewers' market as I do. Now that Braun wears #8, it got me wondering what number Rottino will wear now. Since asking here is about the best possible place for such questions, I'm wondering if anyone can fill in not only that blank but the answers to that question for Stetter & Stocker, too. The roster on the Brewers' website isn't updated yet.

Thanks for the help. I'm always curious about who's wearing what numbers, thought I couldn't ever tell you why.

Stetter is wearing 57, Stocker is wearing 52, as Seth McClung has changed his number from 52 to 73.

Hey, thanks folks. I appreciate your time & answers. I'd read about the McClung number switch in the JSOnline notes a day or so ago.

Let's see Capellan this year, then McClung before he changed to 73 and now Stocker. Yep I hope they have a few thousand extra 52 jerseys stored in a closet somewhere.

After the Jose Capellan Experience, I think I'd prefer that 52 not be assigned to a pitcher for a while.

I wonder what makes the 70s uniform numbers compelling. I remember that Linebrink chose 71 for his coach in SD. Did McClung have a specific reason for 73?

52 has really been whored around the past few years.

I keep having flashbacks of Josias Manzanillo . . . or was that Carlos Maldonado? It wasn't Candy Maldonado, that's for sure. It's surely a blah number, not unlike the #26 used to be (Bob Skube, Willie Lozado, & Tim McIntosh, to name a couple) before it "settled down" on Jeff Cirillo's back for his first go-round in Milwaukee.

53 has been tossed around quite a lot, too, though not too much this year. Not many glorious names have worn that one in Brewers' history. Balfour, Leo Estrella (I think), a couple of real gems the past few years although the names escape me (that's not entirely a bad thing).

Is there some sort of all-time numerical roster on the Brewers' web site? If not there, does anyone know where I can find something along those lines?

There is an all-time numerical roster in the Brewers' media guide every year. I just Googled the phrase and found a PDF file on brewers.com. The link appears to link to more than just the roster.

But for those of you who don't want to consult another source...

History of #52

Bill Parsons (71-73)

Mike Boddicker (93)

Kevin Wickander (95-96)

Mike Misuraca (97)

Travis Smith (98)

Bobby Chouinard (98)

Rafael Roque (98-00)

Mac Suzuki (01)

Nelson Figueroa (02)

Matt Ford (03)

Ricky Bottalico (05)

Jose Capellan (05-06)

History of #53

Mike Felder (85)

Michael Ignasiak (91)

Mike Thomas (95)

Rod Henderson (98)

Juan Acevedo (00)

Gus Gandarillas (01)

Ben Diggins (02)

Leo Estrella (03)

Victor Santos (04-05)

Chris Mabeus (06)

So yeah, both numbers have something of a "nameless ensign" history, through 2006 at least.
