Russell Martin

I'm just curious what someone may think the asking price for Russell Martin might be. Would Charlie Newhouse/Jr. Gwynny/Stopper Manny get the job done or would it be more the "Braun for...."? Or, would it be...Braun+? He had a phenomenal year and he's young, ascending...and Canadian. And he would instantly become one of our top SB threats.

I doubt they trade him for anything we have at this point. Who's going to play catcher for them if they trade him? They have LaRoche at 3rd, Furcal at SS, Kent at 2B, Loney at 1B, they signed Pierre to a huge contract and have Kemp and Ethier at the corners.

 

I don't think we could put together a package that would interest them.

Bush, if you add in Estrada to your original trade thought, I'd still do it in a heartbeat and the Dodgers would have a catcher, but I think they would want even more

not even close, he is arguably the best catcher in the NL, they would demand a lot more than that.

Martin is arguably the best catcher in baseball (not saying he is, but he's top three or four)....and he'll only be 25 at the start of '08. It would take a ridiculous offer to get him since catching is so thin. I'd think something like Weeks, Villy, Bush and a minor leaguer.

You are talking about probably the #1 C from a commodity standpoint in baseball. He is going to be cheap for a while, he doesn't have the injury history of Mauer and he doesn't have the defensive problems of VMart. I think you need to be talking a Braun, Fielder, Gallardo type player to interest them at all.
