Clarification

Posted

Is everyone else here aware that you are not allowed to post "lol", ummmmm, or "@" in your posts? Just found that out today. I have read the rules, but must have missed that part.

Just FYI, it's under 'What Type of Language Is Not Allowed' in the FAQ:

Try to refrain from using AOL-type speak. It smacks of pre-teen. Your posts are more likely to be taken seriously if you spell 'you' with more than a 'u.' Also, our membership includes a wide range of age groups, and frankly, not everyone will know what you're saying if your posts read like a text message.

Heart, The Blackhearts, and The Bangles

None of these were remotely Hair Metal Bands -- Although if you posted a picture of Susanna Hoff you'd probably soon get an observation on how hot she was/is, probably less so for the Wilson Sisters or Joan Jett.

In either case consider me refuted.

You mean there was more than one (Ford)? OK, I guess Wendy Williams. And if you're truly talking metal, don't include the Benatar's/Jett's of the genre.

That thread was going to morph quickly into screen shots of the various metal video vixens, groupies, and girlfriends/wives of the era. It was the third "metal" thread of the day started by the same poster. Isn't that reason enough?

I'm being repressed!

If I were emperor, posting any image of a metal performer from any era would be a strike and Poison or Warrant would be instaban. Censorship, maybe...but there must be standards. Though perhaps there's an even better option...based on recent precedent at the federal level, the mods have added waterboarding to the repertoire. It's not torture, merely an enhanced moderation technique.

Don't even ask what pain I'd inflict for posting photos of Billy Ray, Miley / Hannah, or another member of the Cyrus clan.

Listen to my phone calls, monitor my bookstore purchases, steal my vote if you must, but never, ever stand between me and my god-given right to look at babes on the internet. And they say people don't care about civil liberties any more...

The irony is thick.

But really, even if you think there need to be more metal threads, maybe space them out a little as opposed to going all in on three in a day? At least that way you could keep the discussion going a little longer.

I will interpret this as unabashed support for the current federal administration.

I think Achy Breaky heart is offensive to people with artifiial hearts.

i'm not really involved in this...but aren't there plenty of places you can talk metal?

i mean there are plenty of places that i talk music besides here...

i just think the whole issue was a bit over the top...and if it makes this site go up on the norton score, then we shouldn't have it (even though all message boards are blocked from my job)

I think the music talk is pretty good and informative on this site. Since a lot of us grew up through that era, it makes sense people would want to discuss it.

Seriously, THIS is what we have to talk about here? Must be the offseason, and also the reason I've spent far less time here than usual. The martyrdom of late has been off the charts, and everyone wants to get their word in by quoting and responding to every posts line-by-line until it turns into a gigantic peeing match.

I wish we could go back to baseball and abate a search for attention on the internet.

Sometimes, you just gotta lay back and say "nah, I'll let it go: it's a website", like I probably should before I hit the "add reply" icon.

Anyway I think Al brings up some great points, and I think the more altruistic motives are entirely arbitrary and self-serving.

I just wanted to thank FTJ for the work he did, including the rather snidely written response the mod who locked the original did...rather defensive when asked, that's for sure. While I may not agree with FTJ on everything, he is certainly a worthy debate opponent.

I'm still not sure how the "filters" work, so much of it will remain a mystery to me. However, like some others, the fact the F word is allowed but a curvy gal is not...that's an odd unwritten book of rules. However, since I do not post either, it's for others to worry about.

Still curious to hear your examples of this Al, as I'm sure Brian would like to address it:

based on the fact some are locked and later unlocked, because no one really knows why it was originally locked, that's saying something.

Thanks for the reminder Peavey, my first response was lost, for some reason. I think it was a Sheets topic, locked after 4-5 responses, and told to go elsewhere, to a thread that had 70-80 replies. Later, the original was unlocked, after some complaints, I believe both MS and myself both said we did not get the locking, kind of a "forest for the trees" things.

I will say that it was during a time when threads were being locked rather aggressively, which seems to have been relaxed since.

EDIT: What 'F' word are you talking about? I tried and it auto-corrected to a Hagaar the Horrible swear word.

Al was referring to an instance of the "F" word within the image of a T-shirt in this thread. It's not very visible, and was actually posted by a mod here, and very unlikely noticed at the time. I've deleted the post now.

Homer, the F word is on the shirt in the GNR pic.

I would have no trouble with the Lita pic on Ramblings...though I'd probably link to it, as it slows down the speed the page loads to have big pics (no pun intended that Lita is the bearer of big anythings). I would not have anything to do with a pic with that word in it, be it linked, on site, whatever. In the case of a single vulgarity in a link, I guess I'd label it "adult language".

I'm the first to say it's a slippery slope, but partially because the filter issue is a bit above me, I don't really understand it any better now.
