Framing a Jersey

I am going to try and frame some of my autographed jerseys to add to my wall collection. I am looking for some advice on how to go about doing this on my own. My biggest question is what size frame to buy for a normal adult sized baseball jersey. If possible, I would like to avoid paying for custom frames or even the pricier jersey frames. What size/type of frames have people used? Any tips that would be beneficial would be appreciated as well.

If you use a regular poster frame and simply fold the sleeves of the jersey neatly, you can get a VERY professional looking jersey frame out of it.

i tried doing it cheaply, it just looks bad, just pay the money and get it framed for real, it hurts your wallet, but it's worth it.

Jeff's Sportscards in Menomonee Falls or Brookfield did my Mike Nugent jersey for like $250 and did an amazing job. I got it back in about 10 days.

I would have to agree with the last 2 replies. I have had 2 jerseys framed and some signed pictures framed by them and they do a great job. The people who do the framing for Jeff's are the same people/company who do all the Milwaukee Art Museums stuff.

I once asked a frame shop about getting a jersey framed and they quoted me a price of $600. Since then I've given up on the idea of getting any jerseys framed. Frames in general are extremely expensive for some reason. Even getting oddly shaped posters/artworks framed costs hundreds of dollars. I don't begrudge frame-makers their money but I can't bring myself to spend tens of thousands of dollars to get my various items framed. (Also, I don't have room in my house for more stuff on the walls than I already have, so it's not a pressing concern at the moment.)

 

Anyway, I might try building my own frame if I were you and I had the equipment. I once took a class at UWM in framing and it wasn't that difficult if you have the right tools. That way you could frame numerous things for the cost of one "professionally" framed thing.

Yeah, don't go to frame shops they are expensive. I go to Jeff's Sports for all my stuff, typically the football/basketball/baseball jerseys are under $200 depending on what type pf matting you would use and if you wanted a picture in it.

At Jeff Sports it range from $175 to $250 depending on the type of mating you want. They also have one at Mayfair Mall where I work (cheap plug). It takes like 10 business days to get it done and you dont pay for it until you pick it up, so it's not a bad deal.

I think it's ridiculous that wood and glass costs this much. Even when you factor in the labor, I can get car repairs done for less than that.

 

I own a couple of jerseys, thought I might try and get them auto'd and framed sometime down the line and put 'em up on the wall, but I guess I can kiss that idea goodbye.

if you get the chance, i would suggest an Ace Hardware store that has a framing shop in it then keep an eye out for discounts or sales promos. i had a stars zachjack auto'd jersey that i was quoted $125-150 for up in wausau during one of their specials. the thing to watch for is when matting and the actual frame components are on sale. the guy i talked to showed my examples of some of the stuff he did and it all looked great.

this may have been more of a small town shop though, since it was up north 'eh

A couple of years ago I got my wife a portrait of my kids framed professionally. I went to Hobby Lobby -- They have 50% sales on their frames from time to time. I got 3 8x10s and one large photo for under $100
