  1. Funny that in the inning when the 1 and 2 hitters actually do get on base.. the three and four hitters can't do anything. That's the way she goes.
  2. I'd imagine it could be difficult to remain 100% professional when someone spikes a batting helmet in your general area and it grazes you.
  3. Sort of tired to hear people compare last years' team to this one with regards to the records being similar. If we had all the pieces we did to start the year, I might think the comparison is worth noting. But with the guys we now have - thanks to the injuries - how can comparing the records after ~ 38 games make anyone feel optimistic? Of course, this doesn't change the fact that I will still watch as many games as I can.
  4. I know that Nyjer had the momentum going home, but Nyjer wasn't even set up for that and he throws like a girl. Ugh. At this point, one more run probably won't hurt the Brewers anyway. If it were 1-1 that play really would have irritated me.
  5. If Lawrie doesn't act like a complete jerk there is no problem either. It seems the umpire got mad because some rookie basically showed him up after the strike 2 call where he walked very slowly back to the plate and was practically staring at the ump the whole time. While it may have been a ball, calls like that happen every day and after seeing Lawrie's reaction to the strike 2 call, I knew if the next pitch was even remotely close to a strike, which is stretching it on the last pitch, he was going to get rung up. I'm not saying the ump was right to do it but I could see it coming because of Lawrie's actions. This is the way I see it, too. The strike two call reaction from Lawrie was a bit over-the-top. Then you had Fernando Rodney staring down Lawrie as well, but that's a different matter. Bottom line is, they were probably balls on strikes two and three, but the way Lawrie ran out of the box on a borderline pitch was questionable. The ump clearly didn't like it, it brought a weird aura to home plate, and if the next pitch was going to be close Lawrie had better be hacking. He wasn't and was rung up. I've seen it a thousand times. I had never seen a player hit an ump with his batting helmet. That IS a first.
  6. Been waiting for a game like this for a while from the Brewers..
  7. Except Greinke probably has a list of about 5-10 teams he'd actually be willing to play for. (Or maybe he's just going to get as much money as possible, but I get the feeling that's not the case)
  8. So basically: when the team is good and wins it's because of the team. When the team is not so good and they don't win it's because the manager. Got it. I'll say this again - Terry Francona had already won two World Series with Boston yet couldn't get that team (that had tons of talent) into the postseason last year. It's not that easy to just get your team into the playoffs and then get them to win. If you don't want to give the manager any credit for when a team is doing well that's fine, but then you can't come back here and give all the blame to the manager when things aren't going well.
  9. Nice at bat, Brooks. At least it wasn't a double play I guess.
  10. If I said "every time a Brewer makes an out it's a big fail on his part" then I apologize.
  11. He had two strikes, it was way too close to take. It wasn't going to be a gapper but taking a hack at it is better than hoping the ump misses a blatant strike.
  12. I have faith in Izturis! (I might be on a delay, so if the inning is already over, disregard this post)
  13. I'm really not sure what these guys are looking at. Both Hart and Braun k looking on very hittable strikes.
  14. .000 Zero..point.. zero. http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs3/2017054_o.gif
  15. Izturis didn't need to get a hit, he just needed to get enough of one to get it into the outfield at medium depth. Of course, he could have hit the ball on the ground like and found a hole in the drawn-in infield.
  16. You said it better than I was able to.
  17. Wouldn't you rather have that in an RBI spot? Someone who is willing to use all fields is likely to put in a quality at bat and with a team that is struggling to score runs that's an invaluable skill. Last year Lucroy would have been perfect in the 2-hole. This year he's needed to drive in runs - if the guys manage to get on base.
  18. Always one of my favorite responses in a thread about managers whether on this site or another. Terry Francona won a World Series with Boston yet couldn't get them into the playoffs with a roster that had arguably more talent than the Brewers, or most in baseball for that matter. At what point do we give a manager credit for keeping a team positive during the slumps as well as keeping them level-headed during a hot streak? Who else besides McGehee were on the 25 man roster? Counsell? Gamel was playing everyday in AAA as he should have been and Taylor Green was too. Once Hairston was acquired we could argue he should have been played more, but wasn't RR playing the best cards he was dealt? My point is that every team has holes, AAAA position players/pitchers and the manager is going to play the best players he's got. The roster construction issues should be put on Doug Melvin, but he gets a pass while RR doesn't.
