  1. Mother of god... the Brewers are a 'pitching & defense' team. We have to create a time machine to travel back to the year 2007 & let everyone know!
  2. Agreed, really glad to hear it. Not because we don't need other teams' fans posting, but that dude was... well, yeah. I know there was a Reds fan who was a really nice poster to have on the board, but I believe that was on the old [rhymes with Poopoo] board. It'd be nice to have more of those types of opposing fans join up & participate.
  3. A lot of chefs really see vegetarians as almost insulting (or at least annoying), since a huge part of being a good chef is the art form of correctly cooking meat/animal protein. When I see a menu with a really phoned-in vegetarian 'option', this is always what I assume... rightly or wrongly. I would start by heading to your local library & looking for anything from the Moosewood restaurant. I know not everyone loves Moosewood, but honestly that's where I'd start. These two are indispensable resources imo -- Sundays at Moosewood, and Simple Suppers. Sundays at Moosewood isn't strictly vegetarian (Simple Suppers is, aside from fish), but has tons of recipes, including lots of vegetarian choices. Sundays... would be a purchase I'd recommend to anyone who's not closed-minded about food. It's an amazing cookbook imo. Another really good starting point is almost any Asian cuisine cookbook (not like ordering "Chinese" food). For online recipes, start at Food Network's recipes, because the FN website always includes a user score for the recipe. So searching for things by Alton Brown, Rachel Ray, etc. Here's one from Rachel Ray* that gets amazing reviews -- Link * I find RR annoying & could never watch her programs, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know how to cook. Alton Brown is a favorite of my gf; she introduced me to him & he's great on-air & on-recipe
  4. I have never been more excited to follow a purely-RP prospect before. I want to see Santo pitching in MP come September... hell, I'd like to see him even earlier than that!
  5. So is it possible then that the assignment to repeat Huntsville is related to coming back from whatever the injury is? The optimist (?) in me says yes.
  6. Awesome. What a pairing of comedic actors.
  7. I honestly didn't 'lol' at the Aoki/Gamel spot, but I still liked it.
  8. Wow, last year was awesome
  9. That's awesome, please remind everyone at BF when her sausage race day arrives!
  10. That's excellent to hear, RD45 -- my gf is a vegetarian, and I'm big on healthy/ier eating (paternal Grandfather has had multiple heart attacks). I'm by no means in good shape, which is something I need to change, but I feel good about a largely vegetarian diet. Fish is the main animal protein I eat, and there are even environmental/natural world concerns there. But I don't cut other animal protein or red meat entirely out of my diet, I just eat it rarely. There really are so many delicious vegetarian & non-red meat/processed food options, but I feel like too many people still are stuck in the mentality that dinner is 'meat & potatoes', or that vegetarian cuisine is bland.
  11. Don't worry, the opening series all but ensures a return visit. The only way we'll likely be 'disappointed' is if the Brewers sweep.
  12. Same here... having a hard time being patient.
  13. So you're saying he's got experience!
  14. And we know that Aoki is superior to Ishikawa how? I don't think Aoki is going to be lightyears better than Ishikawa against RHP (but I do think he'll be better), but one thing that's also being discussed is the possibility of Ish playing the OF, which Aoki is lightyears better at.
  15. To Roenicke, one of the most important things the #2 hitter can do is waste his plate appearance by sac bunting. That's why Gomez at #2. That is so frustrating.
  16. This. I also think it would be an awesome PR chance that the Brewers would jump all over.
  17. Good catch on Hall, Briggs & Craig. I never thought I'd be saying this, but... BRING BACK BILL HALL!
  18. When Adam McCalvy is crediting you as a source, yeah. That means Jim done good
  19. Ishikawa actually isn't a terrible choice in terms of hitting/pinch-hitting (if he's never used against LHP). His v. RHP production should be a nice step up from what Kotsay gave last season, actually.
  20. Just posted on McCalvy's blog
  21. And it matters because this season projects to be a very close race for both the NL Central & both WC spots. Every game obviously counts against your record, even though there's no 'panic mode' if things don't start off well.
  22. I see the point, but wouldn't such a move severely weaken the bullpen this season with an eye on 2014? *If* there's a deal like the hypothetical we've been discussing in this thread, then I would argue the Brewers would be weakening 2013-2018 at the expense of 2012. I want to see the Brewers win & contend this season too, but I'm far more concerned about longer-term planning. I think [replacement setup RP]+[hypothetical SS via trade] >>> K-Rod for 2012 at $8M. Morgan may well have more value to the Brewers on the field than on the trade market (partially because he's still under team salary control through 2014), but I disagree about K-Rod. I think an elite RP/closer has a decent amount of value at this point of the season when there are teams with legitimate needs for those positions.
  23. Monty, that post makes me want to break things.
  24. I genuinely wonder if the Brewers are working with something related to Taylor Green's service time here. Maybe the plan is to keep Ishikawa until whatever threshold has been passed, related to Green's potential MLB service time, and then call up Green? Nevermind, there's probably zero chance that's what Melvin is doing. But it was a thought that occurred to me.
  25. This is a huge season for Kentrail. I really hope he starts producing to the level you'd project he can with his swing. Huntsville is going to be really fun to follow this season. I'd have to guess one or both of Bradley/Jungmann will be there this season at some point, too.
