  1. Did anyone else catch Albert complaining yet again? I only saw it on ESPN tonight, don't have a link at the moment. He complained that MLB should've started the Cards game later in the day because 'everyone knows' there are difficult shadows at Busch.
  2. - imgur.com - upload image to imgur from your cpu - post with imgur link in image tags -- [img.]-image url address here-[/img.] (don't use the periods I included inside the brackets here) - great success! I know this doesn't address the question you're specifically asking, Patrick, but it's an easy way to post images... and if nothing else is a quick workaround for right now
  3. Thanks for linking that, gregmag. Great read.
  4. I assume Kennedy means Lucroy doesn't really have much pop in his bat, & Yo has at least as much if not more. Simply meaning why put one more guy on base when you have similar or better power waiting on-deck? Lucroy's a valuable player for the Brewers, but certainly not (yet) for his bat.
  5. I'll start by saying that I understand what OPS+ is & what it describes. However, I got to wondering about home-park park effects... Curtis Granderson's 40 HR season is what got that ball rolling. http://i.imgur.com/3c3aa.jpg The image is from Granderson's HitTrackerOnline (ESPN) page. Here's Miguel Cabrera's: http://i.imgur.com/Rrxi2.jpg What I'm curious about is... is there an OPS+ variant that factors in specific elements that home parks affect more than others? Yankee Stadium & Miller Park both lead to more HRs in most seasons, but not necessarily offense overall (although both parks definitely were hitters' parks all around in 2011). I think I'm understanding correctly that OPS+ only factors in home park (as in, overall offensive impact), & doesn't weigh home park HR v. 2B/3B v. overall hits. Would there be any benefit to an OPS+ -esque stat that better conveyed what elements of offense were aided & impeded by a player's home park? Would that be possible to display, statistically? Would there be a big enough benefit over something less complex, like OPS+, to justify crunching the extra numbers? I ask because Granderson looks to have about 10 HRs this season that may well not have gone out away from Yankee Stadium. I realize that the chart displays all HRs, not just those hit at home, so I'm trying to be conservative in my count. So for a tangible example, can frequency of types of hitting event be weighed relative to home ballparks, so that a short porch like Yankee Stadium's RF would be reflected better? Or the fact that HRs tend to fly out at a higher rate in Miller Park? It's obvious how a big park all-around like Comerica Park will take HRs away from a hitter. But aside from making the general assumption that a short RF porch will benefit LH hitters, can a ballpark's more nuanced impact(s) be better described than they already are? Would it matter if the nuances were better-described, or is the difference from an existing stat (like OPS+) too small to be relevant?
  6. Goody's is multifaceted. It contains aspirin, caffeine, and acetaminophen. Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball?
  7. "the guy that hates people with mental disorders" Fortunately for you, that's too long to fit as your board title, and the acronym "GTHPWMD" isn't exactly clear http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Lager's definitely a good idea -- can't go wrong there, really, as long as the lager is good. Since I'm a bit of a hop-head, I was thinking something like New Glarus Moon Man. But then again, I might pair Moon Man with Froot Loops or donuts... I love that beer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. A great way to remember some of the top moments of the season is to go to a given player's MLB.com/Brewers.com player profile page. Over each player's profile picture, there are two video highlight clips; click "More Video", a link included next to both video clips. That takes you to said player's career video highlights page, ordered chronologically. Fun stuff to sift through when you have some free time.
  10. I don't believe this is the Braves not actually having patience with Heyward. Imo this is either a rumor based 100% in speculation, or it's the Braves fishing to see if someone will overpay for Heyward because he has so much team salary control time left. If a talent like Heyward is actually available, you have to explore it. The guy could have his picture next to "Bat Speed" in the dictionary. Baseball is all about adjusting, The pitchers have found the holes and he's not adjusted. I'm sure you've done extensive film study to come to this conclusion, & aren't just making a blanket statement based on season stats. ... or maybe not... ("This year he was hitting pretty much the same as last year until he went on the DL with an injured shoulder. Can't imagine it's easy to hit with an injured shoulder and who knows if it bothered him for the rest of the season."-- trwi7)
  11. Too bad the Brewers won't be in the market for a manager. Francona is a guy I think I'd like.
  12. Ooh, good call on the Marcum play, liveforoctober. Another candidate -- Greinke hustling off the mound to corral a passed ball & get the out at home: http://brewers.mlb.com/vi....jsp?content_id=19170581
  13. Any other standout or unique flavors with the chili (aside from turkey and... chili)? How spicy is the chili?
  14. One thing I was surprised by in watching this was how obvious it looked from all camera angles that the interference occurred directly over Alou's glove. I definitely remembered the incident like you described here, and even recall Alou commenting years later that he wouldn't have caught the ball anyway. But no shot of the play that was showed in "Catching Hell" depicted that. Was I just remembering this play incorrectly, or did the director intentionally frame the events that way? I swear I'm not crazy, but honestly in every replay it looked like Bartman's hand was basically in Alou's glove right as the ball arrived. EDIT: http://bp1.blogger.com/_2cyKC8lumRQ/SIdGZadHJQI/AAAAAAAAAY4/xF-qOkcHjWw/s400/Bartman.jpg For example, in this relatively famous still shot, the action is captured just after the ball was deflected. When the ball was actually deflected, it looked like there was no way Alou wouldn't have caught it. ESPN also had a "Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame..." episode about this play, & iirc one of their 'you can't blame Bartman' points was that Alou wouldn't have caught the ball anyway.
  15. Someone could go playoff baseball Friday night, Brewers Saturday afternoon, more playoff baseball, Badgers, football Sunday morning, Brewers and Packers Sunday afternoon, football/playoff baseball at night, then football/baseball monday night. I think my eyes started to bleed just reading this. I wouldn't be able to make it. But, like you, I'm thoroughly looking forward to this weekend!
  16. The Gomez catch in LA. Doesn't matter how many times I watch that replay, I still get excited! Must be Braun's reaction http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif http://brewers.mlb.com/vi....jsp?content_id=14871155
  17. He can do whatever he wants. Again, like Braun said, by sitting out after going 1-1 he even left the door open for Braun to get 3 hits & win the title.
  18. I don't agree that it makes him look bad. Like Braun basically said, it is what it is, & Reyes bunted for lots of hits this season. Reyes won, fair & square. If Braun had done the same thing I wouldn't have cared at all.
  19. Agreed, GB12. To me "most valuable" simply means... most value provided. Aka best player. Like I wouldn't claim a ruby was more valuable than a diamond just because the ruby was in a more beautiful piece of jewelry. Rooting for Braun, but think Kemp deserves it. Putting up the numbers he has playing half his games at Dodger Stadium, & most of the other half in the NL West... amazing.
  20. SP: Gallardo, Greinke, Marcum, Wolf RP: Axford, Rodriguez, Saito, Hawkins, Estrada, Loe, Narveson C: Lucroy, Kottaras IF: Fielder, Weeks, Green, Kotsay, Hairston, Counsell, McGehee, Betancourt OF: Braun, Hart, Plush, Gomez Can't remember when LS came up, so I don't even know if he's eligible. Would've been a smart move to get him up pre-9/1. I agree that Schafer would fill a nice role on the postseason 25-man. I'd take him over McGehee or Betancourt. Also, if Green is left off the postseason roster(s), I will silently rage.
  21. Yes, he did mention that during the game. Yeah, I'm sure he knows the schedule for TBS's postseason coverage at this point. At the very least, speculating on a real timeslot that would make sense for the Brewers.
  22. [sigh of relief] [/sigh of relief] I'm glad the regular season's finally over. What an incredible accomplishment this season to lock up a division title & HFA for at least one round. I was happy when they clinched the Central, but THIS clinch is the one I was holding my breath for.
  23. Congratulations, Brian Anderson! Richly deserved! Honestly, I thought he'd keep getting passed over for national personalities or name-recognition guys like Chip Caray. Definitlely congrats to BA, but with each bit of national recognition, I fear we get closer to losing him.
  24. "Is a guy way stronger against right-handers than against lefties? What have our guys done against them in the past?" I read this to mean that Counsell or maybe even Green have a shot at playing here at the end of the season if the opposing starter is a righty that McGehee has poor stats against. But I definitely took the McGehee/playoffs comment to mean Casey is going to be back in that starting role.
  25. Deservedly so. That was one helluva play.
