  2. This is a guy who has never put up an ERA under 3 at any level, unless you're counting his whopping total of three starts at AAA so far. If only his fastball had been recorded in the upper 90s at numerous times in his MiLB career, including this season, and experts/scouts had endorsed how good he is. Using MiLB stats only to evaluate how a young player is progressing leaves quite a bit of room for error. He's only 22 this season, & has succeeded at AA & AAA this year -- that's far more important that whether or not he's had an ERA under 3 somewhere. Peralta doesn't profile as a #1 starter or anything, but at this point does profile as like a #3 or #4. He's very legit, & this season's stats really do a nice job of illustrating that.
  3. Final: Memphis 5, @Nashville 4 Sounds Lose Homestand Opener To Redbirds, 5-4 Top Three Hitters In The Nashville Lineup Collect Seven Of The Nine Hits Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Memphis outfielder Andrew Brown homered twice as the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds edged the Nashville Sounds, 5-4, on Wednesday night in the opener of a five-game set at Greer Stadium. With the loss, Nashville (66-66) drops to .500 by the first time since August 9 and now trails division-leading Omaha by 8.5 games in the PCL American Northern Division. Nashville has now played in 50 one-run games (23-27), the second-most in the league behind Fresno (51). The 27 one-run defeats co-lead the PCL with Tucson. The first three batters of the Nashville lineup had seven of the nine hits in the loss. Center fielder Logan Schafer reached base four times with three hits and a hit-by-pitch, while left fielder Caleb Gindl and second baseman Eric Farris each added two hits. Catcher Martin Maldonado went hitless with a sacrifice fly to snap his nine-game hitting streak. Back-to-back jacks from Memphis' Matt Carpenter and Brown gave the Redbirds a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. It was the first time an opponent has hit back-to-back homers off Sounds pitching this season. Cole Garner and Jay Payton for Colorado Springs were the last two players to homer back-to-back, both off Sam Narron in the third inning on August 19, 2010. The Sounds plated their first run in the second frame as first baseman Mat Gamel singled to start the inning. Gamel moved to second on a groundout and scored on an Edwin Maysonet groundout combined with a throwing error by Memphis first baseman Mark Hamilton. The Redbirds scored two more runs in the next frame for a 4-1 advantage. Adron Chambers was issued an inning-opening walk from starting pitcher Amaury Rivas, and moved to third on infield single from Shane Robinson combined with a throwing error by Farris. During the ensuing Tyler Greene at-bat, Rivas tossed a wild pitch that allowed Robinson to advance to second base and then balked home Chambers from third base. Hamilton concluded the wild inning with a deep sacrifice fly to left field that scored Robinson. Nashville scored three runs to knot the contest at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Schafer singled, moved to third on a Gindl double, and scored the first run as Farris singled to right field. Third baseman Taylor Green then scored Gindl from second with his 34th double of the season, which tied the slugger with Scott Bradley (1973) for the 10th-most two-baggers in as season in Sounds history. Maldonado tied the game with a sacrifice fly to score Farris from third base. The game remain tied until Brown tattooed his 18th homer of the season in the top of the eighth inning off reliever Donovan Hand, a solo shot over the wall in left field. Both starting pitchers took home no decisions on the evening. Rivas surrendered four runs on six hits while fanning six in five innings pitched. Memphis starter Adam Ottavino gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings. Reliever Donovan Hand (2-5) tossed a season-high three innings pitched. The right-hander threw two scoreless innings before giving up the game-winning long ball to Brown for the loss. Pete Parise (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings for the win. Victor Marte converted his PCL-leading 26th save by converting the final four outs of the contest. The Sounds and cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds will continue their five-game series at 7:05 pm CT on Thursday night at Greer Stadium. Right-hander Josh Butler (8-7, 4.99) will toe the rubber against Memphis right-hander Maikel Cleto (4-2, 3.58). They also chased Tommy Toledo, who'd pitched four scoreless innings with just one hit allowed coming into the 6th.
  5. That's, uhh, troubling. Completely lost season for Braddock, in one that many or most expected to be one where he'd take another step forward as a legit bullpen guy.
  6. It's hard, but honestly pretty quickly I've been able to realize that it's ok. Her lifespan just came to an end, & the time we were able to share is still a wonderful part of mine. I miss her, but not with sorrow as much as with happiness.
  7. LOVE this guy. Wish we could clone him for CF.
  8. Classy celebration. Nicely done, LL'ers! NESN story, with video. That's probably the most biased video title I've ever seen with a news or sports piece.

  10. Excellent. He'll be a nice luxury as a late-innings defensive replacement. Kottaras can go to just being a LH bat off the bench, too.
  11. I enjoyed guess pitch the way it was How is it different? I'll shame myself and admit I'd been playing the '09 version on PS2 until recently. I hadn't noticed any difference.
  12. What's funny to me is that, in a different organization, we could be talking about Gamel entering his 4th full-time season in 2012. The guy is an absolutely legit hitter. I really wish people would stop doubting him and/or get past the 'prospect block' (as in, mental block) that is, "he hasn't hit at MLB yet!" 'prospect block' also applies to Green, for sure
  13. So the gf just got me a PS3, because she's awesome. And I know FIFA '12 is coming out soon. So what I'm wondering is if anyone has FIFA '11, & would trade it for any of the following: - 7-1/2 size 59Fifty Brewers fitted hat (I have two -- current, & ball/glove); never worn (wrong size for my huge head) - Free tickets to Timber Rattlers I know this is random fishing, but I figured if it had a chance anywhere, it'd be here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I have multiple free T-Rats tix, really could do about any reasonably-sized request for quantity there.
  14. He was known in the minors as a weak throwing arm, but a quick release to compensate. No idea if that has improved (or worsened). I think that's still a fair scouting report. His arm strength certainly doesn't stand out. I agree with H&T that Lucroy seems good at blocking balls, though.
  15. Final: Nashville 7, @Omaha 3 Sounds Defeat Division-Leading Storm Chasers In 11 Innings Peralta Tosses Another Gem For Nashville Nashville Sounds PAPILLION, Neb. - The Nashville Sounds plated four runs in the top of the eleventh inning to record a 7-3 victory over the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers on Monday evening at Werner Park. With the win, the Sounds (65-64) improved to 4-9 in extra-inning play on the year and pulled back within 6 ½ games of the Storm Chasers in the American Conference Northern Division. Nashville - which scored five of its seven runs in unearned fashion as a result of six Omaha errors - received another brilliant start from right-hander Wily Peralta and held a 3-1 lead with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning before the Storm Chasers rallied to knot the score against Donovan Hand to force extra frames. Peralta opened the contest with 6 1/3 hitless innings, retiring 19 of his first 20 batters faced before surrendering a knock, and notched his third quality start in three Triple-A outings this season. The 22-year-old sat down the first 13 Omaha batters in order before issuing a one-out walk to Kila Ka'aihue in the bottom of the fifth inning. The right-hander then retired the next six Storm Chasers in succession before ex-Sound Lorenzo Cain broke up the no-hit bid with a slow-rolling infield single to shortstop in the seventh, beating Edwin Maysonet's throw to first by a half-step. Peralta, who allowed one run on two hits while striking out seven batters over seven innings, lowered his ERA to 1.80 for the Sounds during his 98-pitch effort. In his last 13 starts overall, the young fireballer is 8-1 with a spectacular 1.98 ERA (18er/82.0ip). In the decisive eleventh, Nashville got two runs on an Eric Farris single to break a 3-3 tie and Mat Gamel later put an accent on the victory by crushing a two-run homer to center off Brandon Sisk (4-2), who took the loss. Gamel finished 4-for-6 on the night and homered for the second straight contest, upping his team-leading longball total to 27 on the year. The Sounds took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning against former Nashville hurler Jeff Suppan. Taylor Green led off with his team-leading 33rd double of the year and later scored following catch[er] Martin Maldonado's two-out grounder to third. On the play, Omaha first baseman Clint Robinson failed to catch Lance Zawadzki's throw, allowing Green to race home with the game's first score. Nashville doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the seventh when Caleb Gindl (2-for-5) led off with a single and later scored on a Logan Schafer sacrifice fly. Omaha got on the board in the home half of the seventh when Cain legged out his infield single for the Storm Chasers' first hit of the night and came around to score on Irving Falu's two-out RBI single through the right side of the Nashville infield, halving the Sounds' lead to 2-1. The Sounds reclaimed their two-run advantage in the top of the eighth with their second unearned run of the night, this one against Omaha reliever Willy Lebron. With one out in the Nashville eighth, Gamel reached on a fielding error by Robinson at first base and moved to third when Maldonado extended his season-best hitting streak to nine games with a double into the left field corner. Gindl followed with a soft liner to right that just cleared the glove of a leaping Falu to drive in Gamel with the insurance run. Hand followed Peralta to the hill for the Sounds and worked a scoreless eighth before Omaha rallied to even the contest in the home half of the ninth. In the Omaha ninth, David Lough smoked a one-out double to the wall in right-center and moved to third on a Cain groundout to first that was a bang-bang play at the bag, resulting in the ejection of Storm Chasers manager Mike Jirschele. After Clint Robinson drew a walk to put runners on the corners, Ka'aihue beat out a soft grounder to second to bring home Lough with the second Omaha run of the night, cutting the Nashville lead to a narrow 3-2. The inning continued as Falu worked back from an 0-2 hole to drew a walk from Hand to load the bases with two outs for the Storm Chasers. Yamaico Navarro blooped a single to right to bring home Joaquin Arias, who had pinch-run for Robinson, with the tying run, but Gindl fired a dart to the plate to gun down pinch-runner Kurt Mertins as he attempted to score the winning run. In the top of the eleventh, the Sounds pulled in front, 7-3, with a four-run outburst that was keyed by a throwing error by Sisk, the Omaha hurler. After Maysonet drew an inning-opening walk, Schafer dropped down a sacrifice bunt and Sisk threw the ball into right field. Farris followed with a two-run single to break the tie. Later in the frame, Farris scored on Gamel's two-run homer, which sent Sisk to the showers and concluded the evening's scoring. Right-hander Mike McClendon (5-3) picked up the victory for Nashville after tossing two scoreless innings. Sounds designated hitter Erick Almonte had his season-best 11-game hitting streak come to a close with an 0-for-6 evening. The division rivals wrap up the series with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Tuesday night. Left-hander Sam Narron (6-5, 4.89) will make the start for Nashville to face Omaha right-hander Sean O'Sullivan (7-2, 3.47). 16. Toby, the Monday Prospect thing has quickly become one of my must-read things on the interweb tubes.
  17. No, your criticism is just over the top & overly judgmental. You don't like the guy, fine. But you really spread it on thick, to the point where it was just unnecessary. You have no knowledge of what substance he tested positive for, or any other context. But yeah, go ahead & just lambast the guy... and then play the victim when people point out that you don't really know anything about what you're ranting about.
  18. Oreo passed away this morning at home. No euthanasia, it was just her time. I was by her side as she took her last breaths, & just reminded her how much my family & I love her, & how lucky we were to have had her in our lives. She'd been in discomfort and/or pain since at least last night, so I'm glad she didn't suffer any longer. Honestly, being with her as she died wasn't nearly as hard as I was anticipating. I think the fact that it was so (relatively) sudden made it easier; I didn't have time to stress about it or build it up in my mind, it just happened. This was my first dog death, so I don't know for certain, but it seemed peaceful. I took her outside in the sunshine, & we layed in the grass until it was over. 15 years, 4 months, & 9 days -- a damn good run. I'll miss her so much, but it's good that she isn't suffering anymore. Rest in peace, buddy! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

  21. Don't you go getting my hopes up.
  22. Maybe this is the wrong thread for this, but I think the Brewers (if they make the playoffs by winning their first NL Central division title) are going to be national favorites amongst MLB fans as a whole. They're young, exciting, fun, & have incredible pitching. I think the Brewers will have wisespread appeal much the way the Rangers did last season. I went to Target Field this past weekend to catch NYY@MIN. Yankees & Twins fans alike talked to me about the Brewers & how amazing they've been this season (I was wearing my Gallardo jersey-tee... that's right!)
  23. Awesome. I've never seen a play like that, & wonder if I ever will again.
  24. Final: Tucson 4, @Nashville 3 Tucson Bests Sounds 4-3, Teams Split Series Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tucson Padres plated three runs in the top of the eighth inning and staved off a late comeback attempt to hang a 4-3 loss on the Nashville Sounds on Friday evening in front of 5,740 fans at Greer Stadium. With the win, Tucson secured a split of the four-game season series against the Sounds. Nashville (64-63) finished 4-4 during its eight-game homestand, winning the first two games of each series before dropping the final two contests against both Las Vegas and Tucson. Outfielder Caleb Gindl went 3-for-4 on the evening, the Sounds' lone multiple-hit effort. Sounds starter Amaury Rivas worked out of jams throughout the early portion of the contest, stranding Tucson runners in scoring position in three of the first four scoreless frames, before the Padres finally got on the board in the fifth. Tucson starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when he led off the inning with his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left off Rivas. It marked the third longball slugged by an opposing pitcher against Nashville this season. Nashville rallied to knot the contest at 1-1 in the home half of the seventh when Edwin Maysonet doubled with one out against Hefner before Logan Schafer later greeted new Tucson reliever Ernesto Frieri with a game-tying two-bagger to right-center. The Padres immediately re-took the lead, plating three runs in the top of the eighth off of Sounds reliever Randy Flores. Tucson loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit against Flore. Anthony Rizzo led off by reaching on a fielding error by Maysonet, the Sounds' shortstop. Matt Clark and Bobby Kielty then drew consecutive walks from the Nashville left-hander to fill the bags with no outs. Former Cumberland University standout Luis Martinez delivered the lone Tucson hit of the inning, hammering a two-run double off the top of the right field wall to put the visitors back on top by a 3-1 margin. Later in the inning, new Sounds reliever Mike McClendon uncorked a wild pitch to allow Kielty to scamper home to make it a 4-1 contest. The Sounds got a run back in the bottom of the eighth against Luis Perdomo when Erick Almonte, Gindl, and Mike Rivera posted three consecutive one-out singles against the right-hander. Rivera's knock plated Almonte to pull Nashville within a pair of runs at 4-2. Nashville drew within a run in the ninth when Eric Farris hit a two-out double to right-center off Tucson reliever Brad Brach then scored when Taylor Green followed with an RBI single to center. With the potential tying run on base, Brach recovered to strike out Almonte swinging to preserve the win and earn his eighth save of the year. Frieri (1-0) earned his first win of the year for Tucson despite suffering a blown save in the contest. Flores (1-3) took a loss in his first decision in a Sounds uniform after giving up three runs (one earned) in just one-third of an inning of work. Both starting pitchers turned in quality starts on the evening but neither factored in the decision. Rivas allowed one run on four hits over six innings of work for the Sounds, his first quality start in his last nine outings. The right-hander walked five batters and struck out three during his 110-pitch effort. Hefner allowed one run on three hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings for Tucson, walking three batters and striking out seven. The Sounds hit the road on Saturday for a crucial four-game series against the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers. Right-hander Josh Butler (7-7, 5.16) will start Saturday's 7:05 p.m. CT series opener for Nashville. Omaha will counter with southpaw Mike Montgomery (5-7, 5.35).
