  1. Final: Orem 6, @Helena 3 Brewers Fall 6-3 to Orem By Nicholas Allen The Orem Owlz got a strong start from Logan Odom and utilized a successful small-ball approach at the plate to defeat Helena 6-3 Friday at Kindrick Legion Field. Tommy Toledo (0-4) took the loss for the Brewers, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. Orem's Taylor Lindsey led off the game with a double, was sacrificed to third and later scored on a sacrifice fly. In nearly the exact same fashion, the Owlz added a run in the second after a Kaleb Cowart leadoff double. Orem added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth before Helena got on the board. The Brewers rallied for three runs in the seventh inning, making it a 5-3 ballgame but could not capitalize on further opportunities to score. Helena was 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position, stranding 12 men on base. Gant Elmore finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Helena. The teams will meet again Saturday. 2. Ouch. This has been a very rough year for Rogers, and it was such a critical one in terms of his development. Hang in there, Mark. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  3. For those not about to click, we salute you:
  4. http://cache.climatepatrol.com/1928.gif Hilarious
  5. why is Roenicke so afraid to move Nyjer to the leadoff spot? Because your #2 hitter has to be good at giving up outs through bunting. It's essential! What, you'd have a good hitter there who you'd just allow to swing away? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. scary how good his numbers are right now and they don't even represent how good he's been for us the past two months. Since the start of July (last 9 starts): 59.1 IP (~6.2/start), 46 H, 20 R/14 ER, 17 BB, 71 K, 2.12 ERA His ERA over his last 8 starts is a ridiculous 1.69. Rotation's individual ERAs heading into 8/18: Gallardo: 3.55 Wolf: 3.30 Marcum: 3.50 Greinke: 3.92 Narveson: 4.49
  7. I've used this comp. before, & with the usual caveat that it's highly unlikely for Gindl to wind up this good: Brian Giles. Builds are similar, MiLB stats are similar. It's not realistic to say Gindl = Giles 2.0, but Giles is one instance that shows the shorter, stockier build doesn't necessarily mean 4th OF. I understand why people/scouts assume Gindl won't turn out to be more than a 4th OF type, but his offensive prowess at such a young age definitely leaves me room to believe.
  8. Do we know he's MLB ready? I don't mean this to pick on you, DHonks, but this is an attitude I'd really like to see the Brewers & their fans get past. Sure, Peralta could still use some work to refine his efficiency, but we've had guys like Marco Estrada, Tim Dillard, & Mike McClendon pitching in the bigs this season. And anyone is going to doubt whether or not Peralta could pitch effectively at the MLB level? It's all just baseball. Yes, the competition at MLB is much better than AA or AAA, but imo there's no magical threshold a young player needs to pass to be "ready". If the stuff is ready, & the makeup is ready, let 'em rip. Talent is talent, & Peralta is about as good as the Brewers have in that department.
  9. Final: Tucson 8, Nashville 6 Sounds Blow Late Six-Run Lead, Lose 8-6 Tucson Bats Around And Scores All Eight Runs In The 8th Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The visiting Tucson Padres erupted for eight runs in the eighth inning for a come-from-behind 8-6 win over the Nashville Sounds on Thursday night at Greer Stadium. Nashville (64-62) scored six runs over the first seven innings before the eight-run outburst gave the Sounds their biggest blown lead of the season. The Sounds had 11 hits in the loss, led by two-hit performances by centerfielder Logan Schafer, left fielder Jordan Brown, first baseman Erick Almonte, and catcher Martin Maldonado. Schafer gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead to begin the game with a line drive homer down the right field line. It was Schafer's fourth homer of the season and second game-opening home run of the homestand (August 12 vs. Las Vegas). Nashville plated three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead, 4-0. The first run came after Almonte tripled off the outfield wall in right center. Right fielder Caleb Gindl then lined a single to right field that allowed Almonte to walk home. Maldonado added a single, shortstop Edwin Maysonet ripped a two-run double to the gap in left center. The Sounds tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth. Gindl walked to start the damage, moved to third on a Maldonado single, and scored when Andy Gonzalez [formerly Angel Gonzalez] looped a base hit to right field. Nashville plated their final run for a 6-0 advantage in the next inning. Schafer opened with a base hit to left, moved to third on Jordan Brown's single, and came home as Eric Farris grounded into a double play. Tucson's offense came alive in the eighth inning, scoring eight runs on four different pitchers and snapping a streak of 20 consecutive scoreless frames leading back to opener of the series. After shortstop Pat McKenna singled, left fielder Steve Tolleson doubled to the gap in left center for the first run. Right-hander Daniel Meadows came into the contest to relieve Sam Narron and offered up an RBI double off the right field wall to first baseman Anthony Rizzo. After pinch hitter Luis Martinez walked, right-hander Sean Green came in and hit right fielder Bobby Kielty and walked home third baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir with the bases loaded. Right-hander Zack Segovia then came into the game and allowed two, two-run singles by pinch hitter Matt Clark and McKenna to give the Padres a 7-6 lead. Segovia then issued another bases loaded walk before striking out Rizzo to end the jam, the 14th batter of the inning. It was the third time this season that the Sounds have allowed a season-high eight runs in an inning. Tucson reliever Greg Burke (2-2) picked up the win. Closer Brad Brach pitched two scoreless innings for his seventh save. Narron's ninth quality start was wasted, as the left-hander allowed two runs on six hits while fanning two in 7 1/3 innings of work for a no-decision. After allowing a leadoff double to Chris Denorfia in the first, Narron sat down a stretch of 14 batters in a row, matching a season-high previously set by three pitchers this season. Meadows allowed two runs on 1/3 of an inning. Green was charged with two runs without recording an out. Segovia (5-4) surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings while letting all three of his inherited runners to score for the loss. Tucson right-hander and former Vanderbilt star Matt Buschmann gave up five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in five innings pitched for a no-decision. The Sounds and Padres wrap of a four-game series with tomorrow's 7:05 pm CT finale at Greer Stadium. Nashville right-hander Amaury Rivas (7-12, 5.09) will toe the rubber against Tucson righty Jeremy Hefner (8-7, 5.61). 10. Final: Ogden 9, @Helena 1 Helena Box Score Tyler Cravy: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R/4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K Chad Pierce: 1.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 K Seth Harvey: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K Ben McMahan: 2-4, 2B, HR, RBI Yadiel Rivera: 1-4, SB Robbie Garvey, Adrian Williams: 1-4 Parker Berberet, Max Walla: 0-4 Helena Play-by-Play The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on McMahan's fifth professional home run. Ogden tied things at one in the 3rd, and then scored eight runs in innings 5-7 to blow this one wide open. Raptors pitching was able to keep the Helena bats quiet for basically the entire game.
  11. Made July 28th and he has made 5 starts and his ERA has dropped another .6 points to 3.92 His last 8 starts have been so consistently good. And he even mentioned, postgame, that he didn't pitch as well as his final line suggests. I don't think he's overly arrogant or hard on himself, but he's just legitimately good enough that he expects to be able to dominate in any given start.
  12. We read that some Iggies tend to be timid, so we have introduced Ruby to lots of other people and dogs with good results. That's really cool. I think one of the most underrated parts of dog ownership is the socialization, especially with other dogs. Glad to hear Ruby's been worth all the tlc so far, she looks great!
  13. PEM, that new avatar is incredible! Wily Peralta is an excellent choice to start ahead of Estrada. I'm really excited about the possibility, even though it sounds like if Peralta were called up, this would be the scenario: "The other thought is if you have (Greinke) [start the second game of the doubleheader], and you bring up somebody, in between games you can send that guy back out and activate somebody else to help you," Roenicke said.
  14. Sorry, but two/a handful of instances of a guy getting a hit don't prove anything. Kotsay has been junk this year, as should have been expected. His line against RHP is embarassing.
  15. What are these big spots?
  16. I don't know how anyone defines "clutch", but by essentially every way Baseball-Reference does it, Kotsay has sucked: http://www.baseball-refer...ear=2011&t=b#clutc::none
  17. But the substitutions for DL'd players have to be pitcher-for-pitcher & hitter-for-hitter
  18. Via Sessile Fielder, & per TH: Doug Melvin told me the sprained thumb that forced Nashville's Taylor Green out of game Sunday is not considered serious. So I have to eat my words on this one, & apologize to Don Money. Glad to hear, though, that he wasn't pulling Green from the game for making a couple errors, as that would have been completely kooky.
  19. I thought I was the only one! Yeah, I've definitely noticed that dude & assumed nobody else did. The power of BF.net!
  20. Here's a post from a different forum by a Giants fan I'm acquainted with: Looking like the Giants might not be as imposing down the stretch
  21. I think that sums up my thoughts, too, Tim
  22. Maybe "compilier" is French for bodybuilder?
  23. Taylor Green is widely regarded as a solid to good defender. He obviously takes defense seriously. Don Money is a bit of a kook as a MiLB manager, & it's not just this one instance.
  24. He made two throwing errors in the first three innings, & Don Money is a bit of a nut. That's honestly my best guess. Green made his second throwing error of the game in the top of the 3rd inning, & was replaced defensively before the start of the 4th (his turn in the order didn't come up in the bottom of the 3rd).
