  1. Plus Upton would fit right into Runnin' Ron's plans. I'd actually love to add a guy that's good for 40+ SB while only getting caught 10-15 times. Fwiw, his career success rate is 76%. The Rays are actively looking to shed salary, and getting MLB-ready (or near) guys like Gamel, Cain, & Jeffress would seem to be a good fit for them to remain competitive.
  2. If the Brewers would send Cain, Gamel, & Jeffress, I'd want the Rays to include B.J. Upton. Not sure if the Brewers would have to send more to TB to get that done.
  3. I would hope the other SP Melvin is going to add is going to be better than Narveson. Besides, if the option is getting Marcum more starts or splitting up lefties, there's not a tough decision to me.
  4. Tom Haudricourt, team-builder: Right now, Marcum is probably in the No. 3 slot behind Gallardo and Wolf. http://i.min.us/idrjf0.gif
  5. The Royals are reportedly looking for a RH hitting outfielder. They're the kind of team that has an opportunity to let Gomez take his lumps with everyday playing time & hope he puts it together. Of course, they've seen him as a Twins player, so maybe they don't have any interest.
  6. My guess would be that the talks probably broke off when the O's realized they have no shot at extending Fielder
  7. Jon Heyman mentioned the Nats aren't the 7-yr. mystery team.
  8. I know UZR isn't something everyone loves, but UZR (which incorporates range) really likes Holliday. It has him as a plus fielder for 4 consecutive seasons. Dewan's + / - rating also likes Holliday for the same four-season stretch. I haven't watched Holliday play enough, but since he's not a fast runner I'm going to assume he reads the ball well off the bat & takes good routes, basically the opposite of Corey Hart.
  9. TH's summary of the O's rumor: So, the Brewers and Orioles have talked about Fielder, but it didn't advance to discussing a deal.
  10. If you're going to have one or two-dimensions as a position player, hitting HRs & getting on base are the two to have. Fielder & Dunn are similar in those categories, & defense, but Prince has & will hit for a better AVG, & will K less. Those two differences matter, too.
  11. Harden's velocity was way down last season, & he was terrible to boot. If he can bounce back, I'd like to see the Brewers sign him... but I'm not sure how likely that is. He might just be a 'name guy' at this point.
  12. NY Times baseball writer (former Yankees beat writer) Tyler Kepner on the deal: "Love the Marcum-Lawrie trade for both sides, esp. Milwaukee. They need to take their shot with Fielder/Braun/etc and need pitching to do it."
  13. Excellent news. Please keep us updated as you can, splitter http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. That's avatar material, too.
  15. Holliday's been a good defender for years, Rasmus is a decent CF defender, so I don't see how bad that OF is.
  16. Interesting tidbit from TH's latest blog post Sounds like a nice way of saying they didn't believe in him as a second baseman... and then the decision to deal him while he's still perceived as a possible second baseman makes plenty of sense.
  17. Still just GM-speak, but a minor update nonetheless in TH's most recent blog post:
  18. I think Lawrie projects well, but I cant see anything that tips to a Ryan Braun type projection. Braun was drafted out of college, Lawrie from h.s. Braun was in his age-22 season by the time he reached AA. Imagine Lawrie repeating AA for two more seasons, and I think it's very believable that he could match Braun's AA .303/.367/.589/.956 line by 2012. He posted the 2010 Southern League's 17th-best OPS as a 20-yo. - He had to explain to his 4 year old son what a "Brewer" was and then went online to show him pictures of Bernie's slide which got him excited. This is great. He has to get him a trip down that slide now.
  19. I have to say, Weirdos, if the Brewers can land Greinke for that offer, I'll be very happy & very impressed with your powers.
  20. This was my reaction to reading that. Just seems like Melvin could've generated more interest in Lawrie; but maybe Buc's point is the reality.
  21. LA Times's Dylan Hernandez: "Dodgers GM Ned Colletti shot down the Fielder/Loney/Broxton rumor."
  22. I seriously doubt Melvin would agree to Loney+Broxton for Prince(+ comp. picks). Let's keep in mind that this is only a rumor at this point.
  23. The past few (other than the year off with TJS) he's been better than league average - much better in 08 and this year. For a better team (and an easier division) than Toronto he's a 17 win pitcher, IMO and round these parts, those are pretty darn rare. Read the post above yours in reference to his '08. He pitched a little better in '08 than he did in '07, but had better BABIP & strand rate luck in '08. He's had one really good season, and as Brewers fans we have to hope that's what his true talent actually is at this point. I just don't think it's a bulletproof assumption. EDIT: McCalvy's latest blog post included the following: "The Shaun Marcum-Brett Lawrie was met with some surprise in the lobby of the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin resort by a handful of rival executives who didn't know Lawrie was available."
  24. Along with FIP/xFIP numbers of 4.46/4.24, a strand rate of 80.2%, and a BABIP of .257
