  1. I need to see some Masturbating Bear in that timeslot. That would be fantastic.
  2. I'm pretty sure the trade for Gomez was with the future in mind, as opposed to just 2010.
  3. Leno got somewhat of a raw deal to begin with--he was prematurely forced out of the Tonight Show, and it wasn't because of bad ratings. As best I understand this, Leno agreed to hand off the show to Conan 5 years ago... and this was written into Conan's contract with NBC. Do I have the facts wrong? I predict that Leno will go back to beating Letterman like he did before. I predict the opposite. I think Letterman will pick up all the alienated Conan fans, unless like Strawboss mentioned, Fox picks up Conan... which imo would be just an awesome move for both sides.
  4. Haha! I thought the exact same thing, hawing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif 2) It was against a team ranked #6 in the country (even if they had lost two straight). And NU hadn't beat a team in the top 5 in the nation since knocking off Magic Johnson led-MSU in 1979. I'm really at the point where I'm starting to loathe Nankivil... and I don't like that I feel this way. He was, once again (& unfortunately), a gigantic non-factor & do-nothing in general tonight. He had a memorable tip-dunk & three-pointer, but honestly his lack of presence down low is just maddening at this point. I hate to say it, but UW's post play is just a complete achilles heel without Leuer (who isn't much on the defensive end, either). I sure hope Bo can get Nankivil in particular to be more assertive, especially on offense. Argh.
  5. I don't personally think Hoffman was available in that sense, since it's clear imo that the Brewers wanted to retain him beyond 2009. As for Cam, I think of him the same as Counsell & Lopez... what team should give up a young pitcher of any value for 1/3 of a season of a non-elite, impending FA? I guess if that deal was out there, then it's too bad the Brewers missed it, but I think it's going too far to just assume it was.
  6. Frankly, if the team makes any big consideration as to how the fanbase will react to a move, as opposed to just making good decisions, I'd be very disappointed. The problem imo wasn't the unwillingness to either sell off certain guys, or give up on the season, but how many teams does anyone realistically think would've been willing to give up "young pitching" for 1/3 of a season of someone like Counsell or Lopez? I mean, if the Brewers gave away any of their young pitching for that kind of a deal, I'd be very upset.
  7. MLB .271/.328/.394/.721 That's probably about what I'd project Escobar to do in 2010, so I already think his value is tremendous, given his defensive ability.
  8. Yeah, BSC, I was just going to post that I'd take Fielder over Braun... and for the same reasons you outlined above. And of course he hits lefty, to boot.
  9. It's an interesting comparison, and exactly why imo the Brewers need to keep Gamel at 3B (combined with the fact that I think he can stick there). I'm don't really agree with your comments on the K's, though. Many very good MLB hitters strike out a lot, as it's not always a sign of being a less than good hitter, but instead that said player routinely works deep at-bats. I obviously have to agree with everyone that the Diamondbacks just made a heck of a signing here. If they're contending the whole season, fine... and if they're not, fine. He could easily be flipped for a useful prospect.
  10. You love... what? I hope you enjoy his Tonight Show re-run... since I'm all but sure it will get lousy ratings & be up for replacement soon enough. EDIT: NBC & Leno, imo, have alienated all the viewers that had no opinion on Jay/just didn't *dis*like him, and will now realistically only draw the same people who were willing to watch his other failed show. I just can't see this working out well.
  11. How reliable are blanket statements like "He doesn't walk and isn't going to hit for power", & "Castro's bat is special"? Has Callis actually seen Castro & Escobar play enough, first-hand, that these kinds of statements mean anything?
  12. Yeah, I think the most exciting thing to me about 2010 is the very reasonable assumption that all three of Parra, Gallardo, & Bush will have better results.
  13. That's funny to read. He won't have to hear about any trade rumors in 2010, since his salary will be $3.75M. But once it jumps up to $7.75M in '11, & higher after that... yeah, he's going to hear about plenty of trade rumors.
  14. Wasn't one Suppan contact enough?!
  15. Third, he is a very good defensive CF - he posted 14 assists last year, which from CF (13 from CF, 1 from LF) is very impressive, with only one error. As long as this matches up with scouting reports & more advanced defensive statistics, ok... but these alone do not tell you anything about an OF's defensive ability.
  16. 10 runs is equal to one win in terms of player valuation. I'm not sure if this is a similar/the same scale, but if it is, then no it is not all that close.
  17. Well given that Sheets's contract demands thus far have been ridiculous, I'd imagine the Brewers have zero interest. Not to mention that pesky 'Sheets doesn't want to come back to Milwaukee' thing.
  18. Morosi identifies the three other interested teams as MIN, WAS, & NYM
  19. Sheets will hold a throwing session next Tuesday at the Univ. of Louisiana-Monroe for any interested teams. Says his arm feels "fantastic". Link
  20. Link A Joel Sherman tweet keeps things interesting... ... to which Rotoworld responds,
  21. Going into 2004 Ben Sheets was having back problems and Yost proceeded to overuse him in a meaningless season. To nobody's surprise Sheets ended up having back surgery after the season. He then sent Sheets out there earlier than he should have the next season. If, by "He", you mean the Front Office, the medical staff, and Ben himself along with Yost, then I agree.
  22. I think Conan would absolutely blow people away if he were on Comedy Central, but ... there's just no realistic way Comedy Central can match $15M a year. It's too bad.
  23. Imo the idea that pitcher durability is somehow related to toughness is just an easy answer that makes fans feel satisfied because then they know what it *really* is all about.
  24. And I think that's why there's so much animosity from the sportswriters. Imo they feel equal parts foolish & 'betrayed' somehow. It makes them look bad for just eating it all up without asking any questions... or just looking the other way when the culture of PED abuse was very possibly visible to them, given clubhouse access.
