  1. Sounds like the umps should have fixed this issue right away. From my experience, these guys are there for their $10-15 a game and give extremely minimal effort. That's too bad -- I know MSCR (Madison) takes great pride in having accountable umpires. I worked over 3 seasons & never had a bad partner. The only 'bad' stories I'd hear from other players were when the umpires in question were too old to get into proper position and/or vision was an issue. If they allow the umps to not enforce rules, I doubt anything will get done. My guess (and hope) would be that this is not the case. I just doubt anyone actually winds up following through in almost every other case. Most people probably just hit the postgame activity (bar, cooler, etc.) & say 'Oh well...'
  2. My last live in girlfriend and I decided to get some kittens, over the course of time, I grew to like them more than her Haha, the way I first read this was that you started loving the cats more than you loved her. Took me a sec to make sense of it... though by now I'd guess that interpretation is true, too. To stay on-topic... I love dogs, though not all breeds. Puppies have me at "hello"... and I am known to cry at the same kinds of movies & momentous events others are citing.
  3. Slight typo crewcrazy... It's Jim Fregosi
  4. I'm confused as to how you think he provided anything to say he stunk. The point was made that Pierre isn't streaky. Endaround provided a month's worth of data where Pierre stunk. I'm not seeing how anyone can objectively say that he's not streaky or that he's any less streaky than anyone else. Also I hate that I'm defending Pierre at all, but I just don't think he is any more streaky than the average player, if not less streaky. Understood, but I don't see any way in which he's less streaky overall unless you're just looking for guys that go fewer than 3 days between hitting singles.
  5. Good read and interesting stuff. I actually think we're kind of on the cusp of a transitional period in the philsophy of the game with regards to defense. There are stats that have been in place for a few years now such as zone rating that are widely available and I'm sure have been tracked longer than fans have had access to them. Great point, NievesNoNO. I've been looking forward to the ways in which defensive statistics & data collection will evolve over the course of the next 10-20 years, and I think these cameras will be a huge first step.
  6. Nay. The idea that 'this one counts' has to be my least favorite Selig implementation.
  7. The Yankees would sign Fielder as a FA in a heartbeat. Their DH options this year have been primarily Damon & Matsui, both of whom are getting old, and esp. Matsui doesn't have very much left in the tank. The only way for the Brewers to get top flight pitching is through the draft. ... or by trading someone like Fielder.
  8. I'm confused why you determine he's not streaky when endaround provided an entire month's worth of data where Pierre stunk. His huge contract has only 2 years left after this season ($10 million in 10; $8.5 million in 11) and doesn't look as out of whack as it did a couple years ago. No, his contract is still horrible. I wish people would stop spreading misinformation about Cameron's value, and in the same thread where Pierre's contract is deemed 'do-able'.
  9. Bingo. As someone that's umped his fair share of softball games, the umpires need to catch some crap on this one. The way they handled the situation was not only lazy, but it was reckless & ignorant. Player safety is supposed to come before anything. Aside from the other team's arrogance, their own disregard for personal safety is despicable too. You're not crazy, Hammer -- the other people involved in this story are/were. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I was reminded tonight of how young Prince is. I would not sign him long-term to 35, but 30-31 would be fine. I was reminded that as well. I've just gotten used to the guy being a big leaguer. It hit me when they were talking about him being a dad. I think Prince's next 5 or so seasons hold tremendous value, and while I'd have him stay in Milwaukee, he might be able to provide so much value in a trade that you just have to move him. The guys he'd net, & money saved by not signing him, could help keep a young core together for a long time in Milwaukee. Long-term I think I would prefer dealing Fielder (not this season) over dealing guys like Escobar, Gamel, Salome, & Lawrie for a veteran pitcher. Imo there really isn't a team positioned better than the Brewers for the next 5 or so seasons in the NL Central, and I'd hate to thin out the incredible depth Melvin & the scouting department have assembled to roll the dice on a one or two-year fix.
  11. Hah... funny. I'd 'noticed' Hart heating back up, but not Cam.
  12. This would actually be kind of cool... showcase the few P that can actually hit. Off the top of my head I can think of CC, Yo, Zambrano, Matt Cain, Adam Wainwright. I'm sure there are many more obvious ones I'm omitting.
  13. The lineup has 2 stars and a collection of some of the streakiest hitters in the game. Instead of making a vague claim, can you actually provide proof that the remaining Brewers you mean here actually are among the streakiest players in MLB? Fans tend to claim that just about every player that isn't hitting at the moment is 'as streaky as it gets'. The boring reality is that basically every player is streaky.
  14. I agree with the observation that, if anything, this is mostly due to increased team OBP. This kind of stat (GIDP) is one that I'd guess would jump around quite a bit as a team goes through hot & cold stretches. Once guys like Cameron & Braun get back on track, I'd hope to see GIDPs start to drop.
  15. Yeah, def. agree with doa & Patrick here. You summed it up best though, ftlow: Besides the fact that the baserunner should get kicked in the nuts... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif There's nothing done by the runner that should result in his being called out. Do I understand correctly that the SS airmailed the throw to 3B & didn't record the force-out? That borders on unbelievable. Unless he went back to 2nd and occupied the base at the same time the guy from 1st was, then I would have to say the ruling the umpire made was correct. Bingo
  16. It takes a visionary to make these things happen... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. I don't get what makes this a compelling film. Book, yes. Film... ?
  18. Agreed, but to be fair is a pair of IF hits really *that* impressive?
  19. Tolisano wins the Larry Doby MVP award for the game
  20. Well now they just called him "Richie Weeks"... grrrrr
  21. Derrrrrrrrr... thanks GB12. I always just assume the worst with esspin.
  22. I caught that too. Not surprisingly, none of the ESPN broadcasters did -- even right as they were speculating about Rickie & his likelihood to return from the injury (of course also no mention of the successful rehab from the exact same injury on his other wrist)
  23. Can the thread title spelling get corrected?
  24. Just watched the first PA I've ever seen of Brett Lawrie. Sure, it ended with a routine pop-up to LF, but still... pretty cool.
