  1. And let's not leave out the perfect throw home that held Doumit at 3B with the bases loaded in extras.
  2. Tom Petty is not amused. I still love him anyway.
  3. Average to above-average SPs do not get sent to AAA This is right in line with, 'Playoff teams don't do ___'. Average to above-avg. players get demoted... it does happen, even if it's not the norm. nor do they get bumped from the rotation in favor of guys like McClung. 'Winning teams don't ____' -- SP sure do when the manager plays an idiotic home/road split. Let's not mislead here... Bush wasn't bumped from the rotation, his manager went with a knuckleheaded plan. Dave was pitching ok (iirc) by the time that wacky 'platoon' notion seeped its way out of Ned's dome & onto the field. Fortunately, it was short-lived, and the correct pitcher (imo) stayed in the rotation. I find the argument that Bush was a primarily a victim of bad luck in April lacking veracity as well. Fair enough... I certainly don't claim he wasn't pitching poorly, or that bad luck was the only factor. As a pro-management guy, I tend to give Doug and Ned the benefit of the doubt when they make roster moves, they certainly wouldn't demote Bush or mcclung him without good reason, -- right?? You're pro-management now? When did this happen? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'd like to think they wouldn't demote Bush or McClung without good reason... but this is the same organization that brought you such hits as -- Ryan Braun: He's got the tools to stick at 3B! Starting Pitchers have different talent levels in different stadiums! ... & Where's your favorite Brewer batting today? Well, what position is he going to play?!
  4. What I specifically referred to was people calling Dave Bush 'useless'. That's a silly statement, and clearly not even close to being accurate. Just because he had some bad luck early on this season did not change my opinion of him, just as the good/better luck he's had of late hasn't. Imho he's a solid #4 SP type on any contending team. Making definitive statements about a player that just aren't true don't add anything to discussion imo. Yes, a player can be frustrating & certainly make ya boil, but the 'sky is falling' stuff about Bush earlier in the season certainly looks pretty odd right now (& to me every bit as odd as it did at the time people were saying it). Bush is what he is... an average to above-average SP.
  5. This is a bit old, but I didn't bother checking to see if it'd been posted here... just assumed it would have been. Davematthewsband.com "08/19/2008 We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program." -- DMB website AP Story "Lead singer Dave Matthews credited Moore with arranging many of his songs, which combine Cajun fiddle-playing, African-influenced rhythms and Matthews' playful but haunting voice. The band formed in 1991 in Charlottesville, Va., when Matthews was working as a bartender. He gave a demo tape of his songs to Moore, who liked what he heard and recruited his friend and fellow jazzman Carter Beauford to play drums, and other musicians." I'm a big fan of the group, and LeRoi was my favorite instrumentalist. I really don't know what the sound will be like without his skillful input. Just a sad, sad bit of news to me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I hope you're in a better place, Mr. Moore.
  6. With great defense in center. I don't understand all the anti-Cameron talk I hear. What kind of production was everyone expecting? The guy strikes out 140 times a year, hits .250 with a lot of walks, and goes 20-20. I'll take that in center any day of the week. There's just a lot of stubbornness & ignorance imho. Dangit, he struck out those times, and those 3 defensive plays... what a bum! Cameron is the best defensive CF the Brewers have had since I can remember. On top of that, he's exceeded or met offensive expectations. To say anything else about his offense is just, well, untrue. As long as people keep beating the 'OMG LOW AVG' drum, we'll get mired in these strange debates. Did you hear that Adam Dunn sucks? You dont put guys in the outfield that hit .230 unless they hit 30 + HR's a season... Honestly, go do some homework on the CF position.
  7. Because that's the report from everyone that watches him play
  8. This is the same pitcher that everyone said was useless last year pretty much. This was being spewed just earlier in this season, too. Glad to see Bush's luck has been more good than bad of late. He's a great example of how luck-based stats affect both the fans' perception of & the actual effectiveness of a pitcher. [Tampa was] 30th in ERA, but 2nd in K's. Shoddy team defense leads to higher ERA -- good defense is why the Cubs' pitchers have better/good ERAs. I didn't watch more than one or two Rays games last season, so I can't testify to their defensive ability in 2007... sorry. I agree though, that kind of split is a head-scratcher.
  9. the good news: I've already been accepted to grad school. I'd planned on doing both, but now i will just take more credits and graduate a whole lot faster. yeah, extra debt, but i'll manage. Excellent! Glad to hear it Game. Being free from that horrid job was will be worth every extra penny... I think. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  10. Get better as soon as you can, Nicole. I'm sorry I can't be of any help. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  11. Howard is not a good defensive 1B. He is definitely a nice upgrade over Prince, though. Howard actually has some athleticism in that big frame though, where Prince is just... big.
  12. Wow, sorry to hear about that Menotti. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif This is as good a place as any to share this kind of stuff... glad you could get that off your chest, so to speak. Pets are indeed important.
  13. The big problem for Mark A. & Co. is the contract they gave Suppan. That's a huge speed-bump in attempting to argue against signing Sheets. Not saying that I've heard or expect to hear anything from the Brewers about this... but if Sheets isn't retained, the old, 'He was too expensive' line won't play at all.
  14. Peter: You know something? I always thought that dogs... laid eggs. So, yeah -- I learned something today.
  15. The waiting... is the hardest part... I really love this website/cam as well. It's a really, really cool method by which to capture some amazing wildlife.
  16. Your All-Star pitcher has ONE WIN since the CC trade. So when CC doesn't win more than one game in what is it 8 starts, call me. I can't even think of the last time you came on to post aside from 'directly following a loss.' So when you stop giving pitchers credit for offense (over which they obviously have no control), call me. Both Sheets & Sabathia are going to be way out of the Brewers' price range... but don't tell that to some Brewers fans.
  17. Ned was paraphrased by BA last night... and I will now re-paraphrase: 'I don't really worry too much about pitch counts until you get up around 120 pitches' The notion, 'Well, CC didn't get hurt, therefore stuff it!' is lunacy.
  18. It's because he didn't re-aggravate his injury, bc. The idea that people have just been waiting in the weeds here to jump on Yost asap is a bit far-fetched.
  19. The handling of CC Sabathia was very unwise tonight. The highest PC of his entire career according to BA during the broadcast. I just hope we don't see any ill-effects in his next start(s).
  20. Basically, I get very annoyed at any situation where a person is completely oblivious to there surroundings or any inconvenience that they may be causing others. Or, worse, they are aware, but just don't care. The chicken -- egg question, to be sure. Which is worse? Being completely & legitimately oblivious, or being aware & just being a prick?
  21. Man, the AZ-LA trade shootout continues. Both of those teams are significantly more talented right now than their records show.
  22. You are correct brewcrew00.
  23. I don't think anyone said soccer doesn't require physical skill. They said it's boring to watch. It takes a lot of physical skill to wrassle in the WWF, but that doesn't make it a great sport. Good point, Roco, on correcting me about the skill. I wholly disagree with how boring it is/isn't to watch. Yeah, my roommates were into the World Cup a few years ago, so I watched some matches with them. It's incredibly intense, and there's a lot of skill involved, but when you run around with that kind of intensity and skill for 90 minutes, and the end result is a grand total of three goals being scored...well...maybe I'm just a dumb American, but it seems kind of pointless to me. To me the goals in football are just made that much more special & enjoyable. Imho what Americans sometimes fail to notice while channel-surfing past the game(s) is that the 'boring, passing-around stuff' is actually setting up the manner in which a team is going to attack. Just because we don't see what's happening down the field on the screen doesn't mean we should assume the ball's being passed around needlessly. Yes, a lot of soccer is intense physical exhertion that winds up not resulting in a goal, but the way I see it is that the objective in the game is to create as many scoring chances as possible (as in basically any other sport). It just so happens that it's extremely hard to score in this particular sport. Maybe making an (indirect) analogy to tennis is useful -- many times the best shots made in a match are returned by the opponent (not directly resulting in a 'score'), but serve to get the opponent out of position for the next shot(s). I guess I'll ask this question...if Beckham came over here as a over hyped player, what soccer player could come over here and bring more interest to the sport? I don't think there's a single player that could do that, but I may be wrong. Just going off of ability + 'name appeal', Ronaldinho (AC Milan, formerly of FC Barcelona) is likely the best guess. If we want to go from the EPL, since it's more well-known in America... maybe Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Andriy Shevchenko... my guess is that Diskono & others can come up with some better ideas. I find soccer boring. A great many people find baseball intensely boring. C'est la vie. Ha! I was just going to edit onto the end of my post how ironic it is that a bunch of baseball fans are discussing how boring soccer can be. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. David Beckham isn't going to change soccer in the US and he's one of the most popular soccer players ever. Only to Americans. David Beckham is what he's always been -- an overrated player (due to an insane ability on set plays/free kicks) who's above-average overall. I'll be snickerdoodled if watching ants build an anthill isn't more exciting. I'm sorry... if this is your complete 'diagnosis', then I'll point out that you either haven't watched enough football, or you simply aren't open-minded enough to enjoy it. If you can't see the intense physical competition & skill involved in the sport, I really am at a loss for words. It's not like it's hard to see.
