  1. You forgot the Reds, Astros & Pirates (at least) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Yeah, he was horribly bad alorrigan. This guy is a joke. Maybe buffoon is more accurate?
  3. Randy Johnson's success or lack thereof against any team means little to nothing in terms of future performance, and especially in a series in which he'd be projected to make 1 start at the most. The Cubs are a better team than Arizona, though the D-Backs adding Rauch & Dunn certainly has made them a better team.
  4. "Lovable Losers" is at least 50% correct. Sig-worthy stuff right there! With that said, what a worthless article. A lot of words to just say Brewers, Sox and Cards fans don't like the Cubs. Let me try to help you understand this better... in fact, I'll just refer you to LUKE's post. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif 1. They are a huge rival 2. They have EASILY the most ignorant, arrogant, and disrespectful fans I've ever come across Perfect summation. OMG it's teh Cubz! Let's get tix at Wrigley! OMG! When do they sing the song?! Also, my own addition.. 3. They are good in 2008. Those bastards were supposed to not be good in 2008, so we could enjoy it more!
  5. Yeah the only homer I remember Fielder ever admiring is the one in Cincinnati earlier this year against (Masset?) when he threw up and in twice in the at bat. That was freaking awesome. As soon as Prince hit that one, I just started laughing. Awesome. Yost also challenges the Cardinals to beat them if they have a problem with this. I boldly predict we will not lose again to the Cardinals this regular season! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I have to ask. Do you guys just remember that stuff, did that play stick in your head for some reason or did you look it up? I remember that sequence without having to look it up. I'd remember it anyway, but Parra tripling afterwards makes it stick out more. actually, I think Ned said something stupid after that happened. Something to the effect of, he was trying to avoid the triple. Or some crap like that. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm too lazy to go dig for it, but (in response to a question about Parra tripling after the blown H&R) iirc he said something to the effect of, 'Well, I didn't want him to triple then'. It was probably made worse by being pulled out of context, but Yost came off looking like a fool -- familiar territory for him, of course.
  7. It's freaking expensive to get hardwood floor refinishing done right. Just be sure that you're at least getting professional sanding, staining & sealing/varnishing. Pricey, but when done right, totally worth the investment. Don't stop looking around though. If you have a hardware store in town that you trust, go in & ask for recommendations and/or advice. Ace is the place! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. The cards tv announcers are garbage also. I can vouch for this (for whatever that's worth). Watching this series & the 4-game set before it was brutal. The pbp guy is ok, but the color commentator is as bad as the worst in the league.
  9. A bit off-topic, but I just saw this in the Cubs-Phillies game at Wrigley: Derrek Lee hook-rips an inside pitch foul, into the first rows just past 3B Everyone around the area at first looks concerned The woman the ball 'hit' is fine, but the cell phone she was talking on is in pieces In any other stadium, I might find it odd that someone in prime seats would be talking on their phone in the bottom of the 8th with your team trailing by two, runners at the corners, and your best hitter at the plate.
  10. Against Cubs, July 30. Parra battting in fifth, Kendall on first. Parra missed, Kendall thrown out easily. Parra then tripled to LC. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  11. "This is really a close, hard-playing, fun-loving bunch and it is more a bit of camaraderie than anything. God forbid big leaguers be allowed to have any fun. Here's what the Cards really hate about the Brewers: The fact that the Brewers now beat them more often than not. St. Louis was accustomed to having its way with Milwaukee over the years but the Brewers went 10-5 this year against the Cards and they didn't like that much. They liked the Brewers a lot more when they kicked their butts." That's from TH's blog entry. That pretty much sums it up. Hyper-competitive people don't react rationally to things -- see: Clemens + Piazza bat shard.
  12. Crap -- I'd heard that Russ's injury was quite serious too. I was just hoping I was remebering incorrectly.
  13. Albert Pujols is one of the best defensive 1B in the NL. The problem with the MVP is that no one knows what it is. The first step seems to be to make sure that you are on a good team. Don't forget the most important skills of all -- having teammates on base when you come up, and getting driven in by your teammates when you're on base! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Of course the nation of Oconomowoc lies hidden behind Luxembourg's nefarious cape.
  15. Durham injures shoulder: Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I saw this at Yahoo sports: "ST. LOUIS (TICKER) -Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Ray Durham left Tuesday's 12-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh inning with a right shoulder strain. He is considered day-to-day. Durham, who was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in the game and is batting .285 this season, was replaced by Rickie Weeks." It's too bad this happened... in a regular spot-start for Ray, no less. I hope this is neither serious nor nagging. Fortunately, Rickie has been playing quite well in the second half, and especially August (.380/.400/.780 on the month).
  16. EARTH TO MIKE CAMERON!!!! WHERE ARE YOU!!!!! Patience, my young Padawan -- heading into the 8/26/08 12-0 win @ STL: .257/.345/.528/.873 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Nice to see both Kapler & Cam proving Melvin right!
  17. I always have a hard time buying into the assumption that the pitcher throws the same number of meat balls, the same locations, same velocity, same movement, pitch after pitch, game after game, to completely chalk it up to luck. Imo the point on 'luck' is not that every pitcher makes the same/similar mistakes over the course of the season... it's that pitchers' stats are heavily influenced by elements outside of his control: fielders, defensive alignment, umpires' calls (balls-&-strikes/basepaths/field), batters, coaches, etc. I know Ennder's example here focused on 'the meatball', but it was (imo) just to address a specific point/question. "Luck" doesn't necessarily inherently mean 'good' or 'bad' -- to me, it's just another way to describe the random variance that occurs every season.
  18. I'm uncomfortable being a Suppan apologist, but I don't see any trend that he is worsening. Not necessarily now, but I think the point was that, with general aging, he shouldn't be expected to improve or even sustain more than he should be expected to slowly fade. Signing Suppan served as notice to fans and MLB players the team was willing to add experienced veterans to fill holes... And that's just fan overreaction. Imo signing Suppan was nothing more & nothing less than overpaying an average SP because that's where the market price had been set. I can say with almost complete certainty that no players looked around and said, 'Wow, the Brewers overpaid for Soup -- they're serious!'. What (imo) is much more likely is, 'Wow, the Brewers might overpay for overrated veteran players -- [Agent X], get on the phone to Melvin!' http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif The whole 'Wow -- we're not just signing stop-gaps anymore!' concept is odd to me, since the whole purpose of signing stop-gap types is to fill time when a team isn't competitive. When a team is contending, it seems logical to me that said team would acquire players that can help now beyond being a warm body, as opposed to not trying to improve the roster.
  19. I think you are underestimating the value of a league average pitcher who makes 32-34 starts a year and pitches 190+ innings He's pointing out that in the not too distant future, Soup is no longer going to be a pitcher you want working that much. Also, you are not considering that signing Suppan sent a clear message the Brewers intended to be "players" in MLB from now on. Just changing the image of the organization had to factor in being able to sign Cameron, Kendall, and Gagne. I could not disagree more. The talent in the organization that put this team in a competitive position enabled this, not signing Suppan. Sure, to us fans it may have felt that way, but I just adamantly believe this isn't the case.
  20. Pulling CC for Kapler achieved the desired result, the bullpen just didn't make it stand up. Agreed -- Ned had to treat CC more carefully after abusing him like a rag doll last time out. Pulling CV for Mota was the right move considering who was left in the pen. I thought that the progression of Riske --> Shouse --> Torres --> Villy --> Mota was the absolute proper way to attack that extra innings contest. I wonder how much the off days tomorrow and Thursday affected Ned's decision-making. It'd be nice to see that kind of approach from Yost in any extra-innings or multiple RP games, but I honestly can't recall if tonight's moves were exceptions to or the rule in terms of bullpen use.
  21. The pitchers you mention are young pitchers and not established average to above average pitchers like Bush is. Francouer is an OF too... position doesn't matter to me (personally), just relevant examples of established avg. to above-avg. players. I don't think anyone aside from Buchholtz & possibly Owings could be dismissed. Santana has logged over 650 IP to this point, and imho has established that he's far closer to his 1.30 career WHIP than the 1.5+ he posted in '07. There's just no way we're going to agree on this front aside from: I certainly do not think Bush should have been sent to AAA or bumped for McClung -- even when he was pitching poorly in April.
  22. The talent level at AA is generally regarded as being noticeably better than AAA. Double-A is where the top developed prospects are; Triple-A is where guys get stashed (Branyan, for example; or a young guy that's being held down for super-two status -- Braun, Gallardo).
  23. (Myers I thought was struggling transitioning from the closer role) Myers was demoted this season as well. He has 23 MLB games to this point, and all 23 were starts. He, like Dave Bush, was demoted, and returned to pitch at or near his normal talent level. Both Myers & Bush are firmly in the 'avg to above avg' range by now, as they have been for the bulk of their careers. Names not mentioned (that I could find): CHC Rich Hill ARZ Micah Owings BOS Clay Buchholtz STL Chris Duncan LAA Ervin Santana ('07) I guess I found your initial canned rant a little misguided. Ok. I don't at all. It sucked to hear at the time (that Bush was garbage), and it has been proven extremely wrong.
  24. Anyone banging the 'Cam sucks!' drum right now is just grasping at straws. He's been even better than I thought he'd be.
