  2. ? If you're going to make a claim like that, it'd be nice to see some evidence. There have been many tight games over his Brewer career in which Matt has played a vital role.
  3. If he is voted manager of the year, that would look great on a resume and I would be all for it if it helps him land that other job. Well, you don't have to worry about that happening
  4. Some ideas for relief arms to add (none impending FAs) Joakim Soria - He's had shoulder problems (didn't pitch from age 19-21), and is the new closer for Kansas City. He's young, inexpensive, and was impressive this season - which likely means he would cost too much to acquire. Given his injury history, a risk, but one with obvious upside. Joaquin Benoit - Already mentioned by many posters, and for good reason. A shift to the NL might produce jaw-dropping results. Relatively consistent peripherals indicate he's a safe bet, most notably three straight AL seasons with a sub-.350 SLGA. After looking around, this is my #1 vote for a bullpen pitcher to acquire. Jason Frasor - Not as overwhelming as the first two, but the Blue Jay is consistent and proven. His xFIPs have been right near his FIPs for the past 3 seasons, and they have been good. Like I said, not overwhelming, but another who, in moving to the NL, will likely see his numbers improve even more. Scott Downs - This is more of a wildcard, as his status as a LHP obviously increases his value. Frasor's teammate has really dropped his SLGA in 2007 (.291 from career norms around .420), which hints that this season may be a bit of an outlier. Not a dominating guy, but his xFIPs over recent years have been quite good, which suggests a move to the NL may pay dividends - plus, anyone that can post a sub-.300 SLGA in the AL is worth a look.
  5. Yost, in reviewing his behavior this week, said he would not have done anything differently. That's from AJAY's linked NY Times article, and this, my friends, is all you need to know about Yost. Even if he can literally see his hunches/suppositions play out in an ineffective/failed way, he still believes he was correct to play them, as opposed to baseball. This man has not learned and will not learn. If he were able to learn, he would have done so by now. Time to get a real leader - instead of a back-patter - in the clubhouse for 2008.
  6. I wish Geoff Jenkins's pants were pissed - I really wanted that for him...http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/frown.gif
  7. BuckyTuba, to quote Peter Griffin, "Holy crap!" Seriously, nice job tonight, and I'm glad that through your own efforts and others', thankfully everyone/thing is safe. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of stress that must've been involved - nice job enduring it!
  8. That Ned Yost might not be the guy to get us where we need to go. MIGHT?! Sorry. Tough night.
  9. There is absolutely no silver lining to me at this moment - none.
  10. There are no words in any language with which I am familiar that could possibly describe my anger, heartache, and frustration with this team. The best chance in my lifetime to secure a berth into the postseason, and it was wasted away through an arrogant sense of entitlement, lack of execution, and poor decision-making. I have no idea how I'll ever be able to forget 2007, the year of the miss.
  11. Nice post, jhpc12 - a whole lotta levity in there, thanks. I kinda need that at this point. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif
  12. Maybe tonight they can try...winning! Sorry, couldn't resist...http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/embarassed.gif
  13. First the chat and now this? I honestly like a lot about Yuku since the switch, but the performace has been frustrating. I sincerely hope this is merely a flutter (to quote C-3PO), and will be quickly resolved. The hour-earlier timestamp is in here, too, so I don't know that it's just the MLB forum...
  14. not necessarily - we could win and Cap could simply not be the pitcher of record - imagine how fun that'd be for Howdrecord!
  15. that last line of your post has been on my mind for the last three weeks. Seriously - could this team advance past the first round? Not as much on the hitting, imo, but that pitching (& D for that matter)! Yuck.
  16. I don't have any way to qualify this statement, but down the stretch it's felt like our team has been chasing the playoffs like how Animal chased women. No plan, no tangible goal, just "PLAYOOOFFFFFSSSS!" WOMAAANNNN! http://www.monstersandcritics.com/artman/uploads/muppet_animal.jpg
  17. And remember, the Crew is not winning with a bunch of last-minute, washed-up, signees... Well, lately you can just remove "with a bunch of last-minute, washed-up, signees..." Ugh, how this season loathes me...
  18. Why would Skaalen stay? Our team has been as free-swinging as ever, and likely the most in the last two or three years. He was touted as bringing a solid approach at the plate, and that's been absolutely invisible save Prince & Rickie in the second half.
  19. http://www.steevven1.com/images/NEIGH%21%21%21.jpg NEIGHHH!
  20. Uhhhhh...I finally got up the courage to look in this thread, and....ummmm...nothing really pissed me off. Oh, and the Cubs lost. And....nope, that's it.
  21. I know the situation at which to point tonight was the bottom of the 5th, but McClung and Spurling before Linebrink? Chalk up another "Gee I hope this works out" decision. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHAWTSDFANNKL;KKJK! http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/mad.gif
  22. at the risk of being condescending, don't kid yourself that Yost wasn't calling the shots. It's s.o.p. for managers to simply relay in decisions from the tunnel once they get run. Happens with every manager.
  23. Thanks for the work and info, BTTM. I have to disagree with you on the availability (but not desirability) of Britton & Ramirez. IIRC, those two were acquired as part of the Sheffield deal, and Ca$hman wants to keep the farm system stocked (& has for years, finally getting his way this year). The reason I doubt NYY would part with those two is the precise reason we want them. The other three candidates sound interesting, and likely to be available - though I am much less informed on the Dodgers, Giants, and Orioles than I am on the Yanks.
  24. I don't always agree with his thinking about his decisions....but I do know that he is thinking about his decisions. This is what confuses me. Why is the critique not based on results, as opposed to whether or not he's thinking? Obivously every head coach in every sport thinks about what he/she is going to do, but Yost has the tendency to take a less-effective option than the best that he has available. Does that not trouble you? What worries me is that Yost clearly puts a lot of thought into his decisions, yet still comes to the conclusion more often than not that the best available choice is, in fact, not. endaround puts it best: "Ned has always and still manages under the assumption of what will happen is what he hopes will happen instead of what likely will happen."
