  1. Love this deal for the Brewers. The Cubs had better start performing next year for Theo's sake.
  2. Craig's Cardinals mojo has worn off. I want no part of him at that contract... wouldn't take him for 'free', never mind giving up anything of value for him.
  3. The Dodgers would likely trade Kemp for any reasonable offer, and if you ask me, they come out best in that proposal while the Brewers come out worst. If I'm going to trade Braun, it's going to be to strip salary and/or add young talent.... not to acquire an even more expensive player with almost as many question marks...and kick in Segura to boot.
  4. Debate Gallardo all that you want, but I don't want any part of Napoli at $15 million. He strikes out a ton and doesn't seem to be the type that will age well. Now that he doesn't catch, he's lost a lot of his value, as he's basically Prince defensively at first.
  5. There is no doubt in my mind an arena gets built, the only question is where. Kohl is not as stupid as people make him out to be. These guys are locked in to Milwaukee... even if they wanted to move, they couldn't. Predictably, some state legislators are already trying to use this situation for political gain, but they're not going to be able to sabotage things.
  6. I remember seeing a short concert from Reba McEntyre way back in the day at County Stadium, it was before the game though. As for predicting the acts... if I could bet, give me REO Speedwagon for the limit.
  7. The Braves are a team that I wouldn't want to deal with. They are always pleading poverty and never seem to want to part with anything but fringe players. To me, they are like that kid in the neighborhood who always wanted an arm and a leg for their baseball cards. Maybe they are still having bad flashbacks from the brutal Teixiera deals
  8. He turned down a $150 million from the Tigers. If the Brewers top that, someone needs to have their head examined, as that would have the potential to be a franchise crippling move. Pitching isn't the problem anyway.
  9. Maldonado has nowhere near the value that Conger has so no. What the Brewers could get for Maldonado is more along the lines of a AAAA player. Maybe I'm overrating him because of familiarity, but I wouldn't trade Maldonado for Conger straight up.
  10. I wasn't expecting Estrada to be tendered anyway, so I'm happy with this.
  11. I am actually far more inclined to second guess the Aoki/Smith deal than the Greinke trade. Even as a fourth outfielder, Aoki would have been very valuable... the difference between 200 at bats of Aoki vs. 200 at bats of Schafer/Herrera is huge. This is not even mentioning the fact that he was really the only semblance of a true leadoff hitter the Brewers had on their roster at the time of the deal.
  12. My guess is that the plan is to make some coaches the sacrificial lambs here and leave the rest up to Roenicke. I'd be willing to bet that whichever coach he's closest with is gone for sure. Some guys step down over stuff like that, but Roenicke doesn't seem to be that type. At any rate, both he and Melvin are likely entering a lame duck season unless they can somehow get this team to the playoffs.
  13. I'm really not that worried about first base. Reynolds and Overbay haven't been the most productive duo, but some of the other available alternatives would have been worse (Morales, Ike Davis, etc.). It would have been nice if they could have gotten Morneau at the deadline, but he was the only clear upgrade out there. At least I don't have to endure watching Juan Francisco try to play baseball, so I'm thankful for that.
  14. That is a great card. I've always had a soft spot for the 1976 Yount. I remember picking one up at a mall card show in the early 80's for a couple of bucks... a great substitute for the rookie which was 10 bucks or so back then, way too rich for my blood in those days. Still have it, but it's a little rough,
  15. I for one am not ready to cede the Central to the Cubs for the next decade just yet. Even if most of these prospects pan out, to compete they are going to have to sign some free agent pitchers to big deals. Epstein's track record with multi-year deals in free agency is atrocious.
  16. Bottom line, these were both 'win now' deals. I don't think that you can expect to win these on a long term basis. The Brewers got two playoff appearances and the other teams received some nice players. I'd call that a win/win. Now if the Brewers had missed the playoffs and/or one of the guys turned into a Hall of Fame type player, then all bets are off- but not the case here.
  17. I think Papelbon would be a good get IF he were to come in and act like a professional and accept/earn his role. Given his past history, that's a big if. Not sure if it's true or not, but I've heard that he won't waive the no trade clause unless it is for a closer's job.
  18. I'd have zero interest in Rollins. I felt the Brewers dodged a bullet with him a few years back, and I wouldn't be surprised if Segura out performed him down the stretch. Pass.
  19. Though he's been putrid at the plate, Segura has been outstanding defensively. I think a demotion to the minors would be foolish.
  20. I don't see any chance of the Rays trading Price at this point. Even though they'd have to leapfrog a bunch of teams to get the wildcard, the way they've played as of late has to make them feel that they have a fighting chance.... especially considering that they made a similar run in 2011. I really don't that Price's value on the trade market will drop that much between now and the off season either. It will drop somewhat, but they would still be able to command a lot.
  21. I'm going to be pretty surprised if they do anything major at this point. Melvin seems to make his deals well in advance of the deadline, and then maybe in August.
  22. At this point as in what he's done thus far, or ever? If it's the later, I think that's ridiculous. If Braun goes on to hit .305, ends up with 2600 hits, gets another 250+ HR's and has a few more big years, then I think it'll be far enough removed from his positive test and his performance after the fact may well be enough to merit consideration. And Braun is the type of hitter who may lose power, but I think if his health cooperates, he can continue to be a very good hitter. Palmeiro is over 3000 hits and 500 homeruns (both 'automatic' benchmarks in the past) and hasn't even SNIFFED election. Braun isn't getting in. Palmeiro was the exact comparison that I was going to draw, as he and Braun made the most public denials of PED usage, of those later found to be liars. Braun's press conference is right there with Palmeiro's finger wagging. Going further, even if Braun were 100% clean, he would probably be less than 50/50 as a HOF at this point. He would have had to have been very productive and mostly injury free throughout his 30's to compile the necessary statistics. Moot point now.
  23. You or I have about the same odds for induction into the HOF as Braun does at this point.
  24. He's pitching on Monday. I'm guessing everything will hinge on how he looks. Could have three starts before the deadline.
  25. I have a hunch that Lee is going to wind up in St. Louis.
