  1. I hear you. Unfortunately, as is the case with several annoying (to me at least) things in today's society, the media is fueling the fire. I'm sure that Mary Lou sent Ricky Nelson an invite to prom via 'snail mail' back in the day, but something tells me that isn't the sort of thing that Huntley and Brinkley would have reported on.
  2. Record: 84-78 All Star: Ramirez Surprise: Weeks Disappointment: Braun Playoffs: No Place: 4th World Series: Angels over Reds
  3. I did not know of his involvement with "Back to School" until reading an article today. Great flick partially filmed at UW. Irregardless of this, the man brought us what I consider the holy trinity of comedy- "Animal House", "Caddyshack" and the first "Vacation"- not to mention everything else. The guy was a legend who had his fingerprints all over a ton of great movies.
  4. Absolutely not. If we see the 2013 Gallardo again this season, I don't think that you pick up the option either.
  5. You need to look at his drafts relative to performance of his draft picks vs. those taken below him. He's done well in that regard. He's been about 50/50. In the Joe Alexander draft, the Stephen Jackson debacle and even the Jennings draft, he passed on several players that have turned out to be better pros.
  6. I really don't think that Hammonds has drafted all that well. OK for his spot in the draft, but outside of Giannis and Sanders nothing really stands out- and Giannis is purely upside at this point. Obviously, his strategy his to draft the high upside, high risk guys. Giannis may be a home run, but the jury is still out. I'd probably give him a B- on his drafts. He's actually done really well relatively speaking in the second round, but he's pretty much given all of those guys away. Bottom line, he's really done nothing to instill confidence in me that he's the guy I want making a potentially franchise altering pick at the top of the draft.
  7. Keppinger at his best has not been much better than Weeks at his worst. The Brewers already have at least five guys in camp that can play 3rd base, so I don't think that matters much.
  8. Based on the forecast for the next few days, it looks like we have a chance to sneak into the Top 10.
  9. This makes sense now. He probably wanted to wait until after the holidays for surgery. Must have been a scary month or so for him, but I'm glad to hear he's OK.
  10. I will admit that I loved the Hammonds signing. I thought that the Brewers were putting together a new version of the Wallbangers with Burnitz, Jenkins, Sexson and Hammonds.
  11. Why is it that everyone the Bucks sign to a multi-year deal or extension immediately turns to a steaming pile? This has been the case for more than twenty years, so it's not all on one particular regime (unless you are counting Kohl). I'm not talking not performing up to the contract, I'm talking about either becoming injury riddled or garbage. The only player that I can think of that came in on a non rookie contract and produced was Ray Allen. Dunleavy would be another one, on a small scale.
  12. There must be something else going on here. Non-cancerous colon polyps are usually found and removed during a colonoscopy which has about a 1 day recovery period. He's young for getting a routine colonoscopy, but if there is a family history of colon cancer, that would make it more reasonable. Surgery that has after effects lasting for 3 months sounds like situation was far from a normal procedure. Exactly. My first thought was 'That must have been a huge polyp'...then I heard that it happened in December. I have had these removed, and was back at work the next day with no restrictions on physical activity.
  13. If he didn't have bad luck, he wouldn't have any at all. Sad to think that all of this started on an effort play trying to run a foul pop up down. As for Melvin, he does seem to know when to back off a guy due to medical concerns. That has to make you wonder about Hart going forward.
  14. I highly doubt that an extension is going to buy out free agent years, so I really don't see the point unless the deal is very team-friendly. A heavily backloaded 5/$25 deal would be my absolute max, and I'm not sure that I'd do that, as it's twice what Lucroy got. Even if Segura was a perennial all star moving forward, what would his realistic max earnings in arbitration be for that period? Maybe $50 or $60 million. If he flamed out or suffered serious injury, an extension would be really looking bad down the road. Seems to me to be a pretty big risk to go for a 50 percent off deal five years from now. Since they didn't seem to have much interest in an extension last year, I have a feeling that Segura and his representation saw what Freeman got, and they aren't going to like any realistic proposal.
  15. Was Bill Hall still a shortstop when he got his extension? Good memory, I forgot that one. I'm not sure... I know that he was moved off SS shortly thereafter for JJ. Billy had more MLB experience than Listach had/Segura does, and that one turned out just as bad or worse as the Listasch deal.
  16. The last time the Brewers did this with a young shortstop, they were stuck with Pat Listach for the next three years. Look at what Castro has done since his extension in Chicago. Segura looked good last year, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Seems to me that the Brewers would be taking on all the risk in this deal. I think that it's best to keep Segura motivated. If he plays well enough to get a good payday in arbitration in a few years, that's a good problem to have if you ask me.
  17. Way too soon for this if you ask me.
  18. It is a classy move, kind of like when Meche retired. It would have actually been nice if Suppan had sat out even if he had still gotten paid... say after his first 10 starts as a Brewer. He was positively brutal after that.
  19. Right but Brantley doesn't play defense like Gomez or have Gomez' power. Yes, but I was just comparing the years and dollars. Almost the same exact deal (except wasn't Gomez closer to FA?). I should have left open market out, any type of extension for Carlos would be big money now.
  20. The problem is that the Dodgers don't really need any pitching. I don't think that prospects have much appeal for them either. If they want something, they can just go out and buy it. They do have some holes in the infield, but I really don't think that a package built around Ramirez and Weeks would get the deal done. I'm sure they'd have interest in Lucroy, Segura or possibly Gomez, but the Brewers would be insane to move any one of those guys in a deal for Kemp. This isn't even considering the money that he's owed.
  21. I work about 30 feet from a guy who likes to do this. Further, his ringtone is the opening notes of 'Old Time Rock N Roll'...
  22. I was actually racking my mind to think of a realistic trade scenario for Kemp, but the only thing that would probably work would be Braun for Kemp even up, and that's not happening.
  23. Wait a second... MLB.tv is available on Roku? Boy do I feel stupid for watching games last year on my laptop while my Roku sat idle.
  24. Looking at this, what would Gomez command on the open market right now? Melvin got him for just a tad more, and that might be one of the best moves that he's made as Brewers GM.
