  1. Why would anybody trade for Hall when they will be able to get him for league minimum in about 4 days?
  2. Robin nearly quit after the '92 season when Molitor left, and the team didn't make any effort to resign guys like Bosio, Seitzer, Fletcher and Plesac and traded Bichette and lost Darren Holmes. He made statements at the time that he wasn't happy with what was going on, and who could blame him? You don't lose guys like that and then expect to replace them with Kevin Reimer being your marque offseason acquistion and washed up guys like Dickie Thon, Tom Brunansky and Bill Doran. I don't blame him one bit for being honest about things.
  3. I just don't 'get' Billy Beane. Why should there be a movie about him? What has he won? He inherited a bunch of young talent with the A's, got lucky taking two college pitchers high in the draft and won a bunch of games- for a time. Anybody could have won with Hudson, Zito, and Mulder in their prime. What have they done since those guys left? More recently, he's given away Haren and Harden for basically nothing.
  4. Cobb was a good flick. Cool book series by Al Stump as well. The first one I read in high school, basically spewed the company line. The second one, was the truth and what the movie was based on regarding the author's experience with Cobb while writing his autobiography.
  5. Well, on one hand Old Style is probably the only beer that I would dump out....not on a player though. Says a lot about the sensibilities and tastes of Cubs fans that they are basically the only market (outside of 71 year old Wisconsin men) that still drink that swill.
  6. Make that four of us who hate U2.
  7. Cause he's from McFarland? My guess is that if this team continues to circle the drain, Macha and all of these guys will be gone, and Sveum or Randolph will be managing- possibly before the end of the season. These are likely just the first moves.
  8. Somebody must have finally gotten those pictures that he had of the Seligs back.... Probably a nice, local guy, but I never understood what he did to stick around forever and then become the pitching coach. I never thought that anyone would outlast the tenure of Larry Haney, but Castro blew it away. Did you know that this is the first time I believe since 1974 that the Brewers haven't had either Castro or Haney in uniform? Mind boggling. Bosio has worked his way up as a pitching coach, and has MLB experience. Not that it matters, but he is also 'local', I believe. Maybe Castro can step in for Augustine on FSN next year. Augustine is horrible.
  9. Maybe Suppan will go DFA in this purge as well. A guy can dream can't he?
  10. All I will say is that Escobar better be in the lineup every day. I agree that Salome for Kendall is the next logical move in this progression. Regarding J.J. Hardy, I have to believe that "he gone" within the next day or two. I'm not sure the rule for waiver trades, but there is no way that he went through waivers without being claimed, therefore the trade must be to whomever claimed him correct?
  11. I'd rather pay a Patterson/Gerut and a righty hitter (Marlon Byrd?) combo less than $4 million combined than pay Mike Cameron $10 million plus next year. Bill Hall is a sunk cost, so maybe he could factor in as well. I know Fangraphs or whatever says Cameron is worth $36 million or something, but what I see is a streaky Marquis Grissom-like hitter who disappears for weeks at a time, albeit with better range in the field. That said, I'm sure people will be pining for David DeJesus and/or Coco Crisp again this off season. I'd prefer to see the money go towards the pitching staff.
  12. Some hate him, or call him a rat, but my opinion is that Canseco has done more to clean up the game than anybody. I'd believe what he has to say ahead of 'Papi' or any other player, because lots of these guys are proven liars (Arod, Palmeiro, Sosa, etc., etc.). I haven't seen one statement Canseco has made to be disproven. Ortiz probably wouldn't even be playing now if he wasn't a juicer.
  13. I have no idea why the Brewers didn't trade for him. They could have gotten him for next to nothing, and we wouldn't have to watch Burns and his .375 opponent batting average trotted out there every 5 days.
  14. What did his son 'tweet' about the coke finding?
  15. Maybe we should go back to the idea that people had in 1996, and just sell Racine to Illinois to pay off the stadium....
  16. No thank you. Harang is vastly overpaid. The guy is Jeff Juden with one good year. No need to sell low on Hardy for a bad contract guy who would likely not help anyway.
  17. Personally, I think his shtick is incredibly lame. Maybe I'm too old or something.
  18. Way too much for Lee. People seem to forget that last year he barely made the Indians as a #5 starter. Yes, he went on to a Cy Young season, but it there have been plenty of 'fluke' Cy Young winners in history. Lee's may have been the flukiest.
  19. I'd do Villanueva or McClung for Snell if they really want to move him. He was pretty good in 2007.
  20. My guess is that it will be Escobar or Lawrie and Parra as a starting point. I would think that as a Canadian, Lawrie would make more sense to the Jays from a P.R. standpoint, but Escobar would be able to step right in at shortstop. Parra could step right in to their rotation, and a lefty with his stuff is tough to find. I think two additional guys in the top 20 prospects from the low minors would have to be added for the Jays to think about the move. In my opinion, that may be too much, especially considering how Parra has looked in his last two starts.
  21. I bet this team had a few "softball guys". I'm not a big Jim Rome fan, but this bears linking again. Softball Guy
  22. Yea. I got really tired of all these guys cooking up injuries so they could take a short vacation to Miami beach to miss the game. It was starting to get ridiculous for a couple of years there. Now they are pressured to play somewhat, which is a good thing.
  23. The Goodman brothers have to be almost 100. They looked ancient on TV twenty-five years ago when they sponsored the Wheel of Fortune.
  24. You are correct, this is the guy.
