  1. I don't hate Cameron. I just think he is not worth $10 million per year, when this team is in dire need of starting pitching. At the plate he's too 'all or nothing' for my tastes. This team has enough of those guys already.
  2. The Sheffield ones are all over Ebay generally for less than $50. My guess is that these are fake M&N Chinese knockoffs though. Doesn't make much sense why they wouldn't make Younts or Molitors, but they probably don't know much baseball over there. Actually, they could be real, because who outside of some odd rapper would be caught dead in a Brewers Sheffield jersey...certainly not a Brewer fan- imagine wearing that one to Miller Park. I've actually thought about buying one of these for cheap to burn for some special occaision. Maybe you could buy a Sheffield and get someone to take the lettering of and put a Yount nameplate on there, replace the second '1' with a '9', and you are golden.
  3. Yep, mostly cheap imports and used junky stuff. I think the marketing plan is to get the admission fees and then get people to feel that they have to buy 'something' to 'justify' the cost they paid to get in, and the time they spent getting there.
  4. Then do you think that teams will be falling all over themselves to give Cam a multi-year, $10 per deal? Personally, I think that he will be hard pressed to find anyone to give him $10 million next season. The Yankees didn't even want to take that contract last off-season without the Brewers taking money back. He's also going to be 37 next year, no spring chicken by any stretch. That said, I'd be fine with $6 million or so. But $10 million can be better spent on pitching (via trade, not free agency).
  5. I don't think that you can sell low on both Hardy and Hart unless it accomplishes one of two things....encourages a team to take Suppan.. or returns a quality#2 type starter. Better to let Cameron walk. As good as many here think he is, I really think that he's going to have a hard time finding someone to give him $10 million per.
  6. The advertising for these 'liquidation sales' is pretty much bait and switch. All these things are is glorified flea markets. I guarantee that the '$149 laptop' is a used, refurbished Pentium 2, best case.
  7. Sounds like the 1997 Cleveland Indians debacle where the Brewers helped them free up salary to sign Kenny Lofton Derek Lowe = Marquis Grissom Tim Hudson = Kenny Lofton Don't take on another team's scraps to allow them the payroll flexibility to sign the better player. Go after the better player. As far as trading Suppan, as much as I want him gone, I don't do it for an additional two years of Lowe. Our four year nightmare of Suppan starts is nearly over.
  8. Hudson makes a lot of sense to me. I'd much rather give him $12 million per than give Looper $7 next season that's for sure. The only problem is that he's getting a little long in the tooth, so I don't know if I'd want to give him more than a two year deal. I don't think that he can be compared to Suppan for sure. They're not even in the same league. Hudson has had a great career, Suppan was great for a few games in the playoffs (and against the Brewers).
  9. I've proposed this before. I'd do Hardy, Lawrie, Parra, mid-level prospect for Halladay. I think that the Jays might actually be more interested in Lawrie than Gamel or Escobar because of the Canadian PR aspect that might soften the blow of trading Halladay somewhat. The Jays may actually think about pulling the trigger on this one, and the Brewers need to go for it next year. Obviously they would be taking a risk on Halladay's health, but if he stays healthy they either contend or flip him at the deadline.
  10. Here we go again. These players and teams make millions of dollars a year. If the guy wants the ball, he should pay off for it either through memorabilia, tickets, or.... gasp.... cash. It's OK for Ryan Howard to go to a card show or something and charge $80 to sign his name, but it's not OK for someone who catches a home run ball to ask for something. I guess they should just hand it over with a handshake and a smile....Get real, the players and the teams are the ones who milk the fans 99.999999% of the time. Tricking the kid without the parents and exchanging an autograph ball doesn't seem to be fair to me at any rate.
  11. I think that Ben was 'hated' by the 'fair weather fan' crowd. These people would have hated on Paul Molitor in the 1980's as well. I would guess most people who have been fans for the long term realize that he's arguably the best pitcher this franchise has ever had. For god's sake he started the all-star game last year. I can kind of understand why he is bent out of shape at the Brewers. Instead of wasting $50 million on Jeff Suppan, they could have extended Sheets 3 years or so. I would guess that even after missing the entire season, some of Sheets' sabermetric stats were better than Suppan's last year.
  12. Exactly. If Cameron would take 7.5 million as well, he can come back. If he wants a raise, see you later.
  13. Walk away from another St. Louis free agent pitcher. Make that run away. Piniero was Manny Parra bad pitching in a pitcher's park in Seattle..... I don't want to be giving good money to old guys like Washburn or Davis either. If I'm Melvin, I work on a deal with Ben Sheets and work on a trade for another guy. In my opinion, there are plenty of pieces available for a team seeking offense/looking to cut costs. Hardy, Hart, possibly McGahee or Gamel and maybe even a prospect like Lawrie.
  14. As much as I've dreamed about it, I've come to the stark realization that trading Suppan will be impossible. Too bad that baseball wasn't like the NBA, where 'expiring contracts' have some trade value, even for stiffs.
  15. Obviously Melvin stood his ground on this one. To protect "his" guy, he better go out and get some decent pitching this offseason, or Macha will be the odds-on favorite to be the first manager fired next year. By the way, just say no to Castro in the bullpen.... The guy has run his course.
  16. I say the Suppan signing was much worse than Hammond. The Hammonds contract was less than half as much as Suppan's and at least he was hurt much of the time- plus the Brewers had the sense to cut him when he stunk the joint up. Outside of a few 'mental breaks' on the DL, Suppan has been killing this team every fifth day for the past three seasons. There seems to be every indication that he will be doing the same next year.
  17. If this team trades Braun, I'm done. That would be the height of stupidity. It would make the Ray Allen trade look great by comparison.
  18. I'm not sure whether this is worse than the Jose Hernandez benching or not. Is this organization truly regressing to the Taylor/Lopes/Royster era again? Guys like JJ Hardy, Mike Rivera or Matt Gamel need to 'perform' to see the field, yet for some reason Suppan is run out there to give him a stupid career milestone?
  19. It just amazes me how many people still defend Suppan. Must be because he seems like such a good dude off the field or something. Worst free agent signing in Brewers history in my opinion.
  20. I'd lean towards calling Suppan a "bullpen killer" instead of an "innings eater". He has to be leading the league in 'unquality starts'....isn't he?
  21. I could care less about the Olympics... That said, my money is on Rio getting the games. Can't see the IOC putting the games in America.
  22. I'm holding out hope that Macha starts a Twitter this week and his first 'tweet' looks like this. Doug sez he wont no n e thing b4 Monday cuz Mark is mad about sumthing....
  23. A very big loss in my opinion. How many scuffling pitchers did he 'fix' while with the Brewers? Heck, he may have even made Burns serviceable... well....I guess he's not that good, but still.
  24. I disagree. Hoffman has been great this year. Money for starting pitching can come from other sources (Cameron, Kendall, Looper, Hardy, Weathers).
