  1. I would rather not make a big sacrifice (like Gamel) for Jackson. I think that the Brewers would be better served trying to find "next year's Edwin Jackson" - a guy with big time potential and upside who comes cheap... a reclamation project, I guess.
  2. Smart move. By the end of year, he looked Suppan-esque out there. Looked like he was throwing batting practice, and a good chunk of his outs were atom balls and line drives. This is a great move as long as the money isn't wasted on a guy like Washburn or Davis.
  3. I loved that stuff. Not as syrupy sweet as the current product. I stocked up to the tune of about 6 cases when it was getting phased out, but it's been gone for weeks. Hopefully they do this again next summer. Edit.... do we have confirmation that this will be released again this winter? If so, you have just made my weekend.
  4. Does anybody remember Ramser Correa? I think he was the Brewers last big international signing. Probably about 20 years ago.
  5. I think it's laughable that Fangraphs believes Cameron is a better player than Bay. Obviously they haven't watched him play everyday. To me the best part of the Hardy deal is that all the Cameron supporters won't be able to preach doom and gloom due to the lost defense in center.
  6. I'd rather have Gomez than Harang unless the Reds were willing to eat a huge chunk of his contract.
  7. I had Ankiel on my list, but I don't see it happening now with Gomez in the fold. Blanco would be OK as a backup. Though he looks like Johnny Bench compared to Kendall, he won't provide the offense that I think is needed from the Catcher position. I think that with Escobar and Gomez in the lineup, the team needs a catcher with a little bit of pop in their bat. The Brewers haven't had a catcher hit a dozen homers for the last 10 years. I think that would be a good goal for next season.
  8. Harden would be a worthwhile addition and worth a reasonable risk. I wouldn't go more than three years at about $10 million per though. The thing about Harden is that if he's not durable enough to be a starter, I've always thought that he would be a great closer. Maybe they could sign him with the idea of moving him to the bullpen if he's not able to log enough innings as a starter.
  9. Everyone should just breathe a sigh of relief that Hart didn't accept the long term contract offer. If he can't be moved for pitching, you have to keep him around to see if he can bounce back next year. You can't just give him away for nothing.
  10. Worst Weathers memory- When Dean Taylor parlayed him into Ruben Quevedo.
  11. No to Perkins. He reminds me of Glendon Rusch, and I don't want to have any Rusch flashbacks. I'd do Hardy for Delmon Young. If not used as a trade piece, Young could provide depth in the OF and perhaps take over for Hart if he's moved for pitching.
  12. State of the art when installed. Believe it was in 1980. Gotta say that watching This Week on Baseball on it during visitor batting practice was awesome.
  13. I'd do this in a heartbeat. I consider Suppan to be a sunk cost who actually has negative value to the team, because he keeps getting run out there due to his contract. If he was making league minimum, he would have been DFA'd long ago. If Suppan is a sunk cost, adding $10 million in payroll equates to $5 million a year for Perez. I think that's an acceptable risk, but sadly the Mets probably wouldn't even consider it. Perhaps a three way deal could be worked out with Milton Bradley going to the Mets and Suppan to the Cubs?
  14. I agree 100%. Washburn = Suppan. Coming off a arguably his best season in a contract year having pitched most of it in a pitcher's park. No way he doesn't demand somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 years/ $20 million. If anything, he would be a worse signing than Suppan because he's older, has a bad knee, and apparently isn't sure whether he wants to play anymore. I'll pass unless he will take a one year deal next year for what Looper's option is. He would be O.K. as a 4th or 5th starter. I still say that a trade is the best route to picking up pitching. No more overpaying for mediocrity in the free agent market. If they want to sign a free agent pitcher, it had better be on a high risk/high reward option like Sheets or Harden. I don't want to spend the next two years arguing with people about whether Washburn is "doing what he is expected to do" (e.g. an "innings eater" who is "a better option than what we have to replace him with").
  15. If this team gives Washburn a multi-year deal at 10 million or so per season they obviously didn't learn their lesson with Suppan. I'd rather take a chance on Sheets or Harden even with the injury risk. Their upside is much higher. Though he came up big last year pitching in a contract year in a pitcher's park (sound familiar?) Washburn was never that good to begin with and he's getting up there in years. There's a lot of innings on that arm.... and no, I do not want another "innings eater".
  16. I'd rather see if KC would work a deal for Guillen who's worn his welcome out there. His contract is up next year as well. Perhaps the Brewers could either kick in some cash or a prospect or incorporate the two into a larger deal (include Hart or Hardy perhaps).
  17. I think that Phillips looks older than he is due to the "Kenny Rogers factor".
  18. Those are her "Myspace" or "Facebook" pictures. Every "plain" girl has them. Perfect lighting and angles.... I'm just wondering, where is the photo with the pushed up cleavage? They all seem to have one of those too.
  19. I have to laugh seeing the name Randy Ready. Ready is a strong candidate for the all time worst Brewer team. He was another hyped product of inflated El Paso and PCL stats who hit about a buck seventy with no power once he got to the majors.
  20. I tell you what. If he would have picked up some pitchers with stuff this nasty, I bet he'd still be with the Mets.
  21. Thanks for the interview. I was a big fan of Nuke the year he was in Milwaukee and was disappointed when they let him go. I remember watching him throw the first complete game that the team had in ages (think it was against the Giants).
  22. He may have been a bit standoffish to some out in the public, but it's tough not to see how this is a good deed that he didn't have to do. He's a better guy than me for sure, because there's no way that I go to some charity event the day after I have knee surgery. To me, his biggest fault as a person was that ridiculous batting stance. As someone who had been one of his biggest detractors, he really won me over last year. I'll still call him 'Rudy' though...
  23. Good, that means no Castro in uniform next year. Make the guy a scout or something.
  24. When I heard about Peterson, the first thing I thought of was Dr. Mike Marshall's 'critiques of him. Marshall is quite eccentric and outspoken to say the least. He claims that he's been blackballed from the game, but that could be because he may be seen as a quack. Come to think of it, Marshall would be an interesting hire for someone....if nothing else. I think he claims that his training methods would allow guys to pitch pretty much every day. Considering the way this team burnt the pen last year, this would be a good thing.
  25. I'd do it in a second, but it would never happen.
