  1. Don't expect much from him. For some reason he is getting a Suppan-esque free pass with a lot of people ("We knew he wasn't that good when we signed him, what do you expect? He is what he is, a major league average.....". The fact is that he was downright brutal last year before his injury. He simply doesn't have very good stuff, and the only reason that he was so effective with the Royals was that he absolutely pounded the zone back then (with likely a good deal of luck factored in). Terrible signing.
  2. Just tried to turn on the game but.....Enough already with this Directv nonsense, I'm about ready to switch to cable. I want to know why they can't carry Fox Sports Wisconsin full time.
  3. If they were going to move Cameron, they certainly should have done it months ago. At this point they have no options to replace him. Simply put, Duffy is not a starting center fielder for a winning team. Plus I want no part of the vastly overrated Kennedy or the vastly overpaid Igawa for him. We are not Waste Management for the Yankees, and should do them no favors. I'd package Cameron with a prospect for Phil Hughes, and nothing less. Since the Yankees probably wouldn't go for that, I'd stand pat.
  4. I'll second the Kevin Barker one. I remember wondering what planet Powell was on when he was spewing nonsense about him being a Rookie of the Year candidate. I also remember wondering whether or not he truly believed that or if he was giving the company line. How about Tim McIntosh and Valerio DeLosSantos? Going a little bit further back, most if not all the teams prospects from 83 and 84 flamed out for the crew (though some had fairly long careers). Guys like Randy Ready, Dion James, Jaimie Coconower and Doug Loman. Going further back, Dan Thomas was another one, and going way back, a guy named Rob Ellis was a huge flop.
  5. Despite what all the pundits say, I don't think the Badgers are a sure thing to make the tournament. Frankly, they don't deserve it. They didn't beat anybody outside the Big 10, and they were 0-4 against the only 2 decent teams in the Big 10. Once again, the Big 10 is highly overrated in the RPI for whatever reason. If Mississippi St. wins today, it could get real interesting.
  6. People will probably still come on here and say that he's delivered exactly what was expected of him. A good vet to have in the clubhouse, and an innings eater. Personally, I'd be thrilled if he had an ERA south of 5.5 or so, but that may be wishful thinking. I'm expecting him to be somewhere between Glendon Rusch circa 2003 and Jamie Navarro circa 2000. I really hope I'm wrong.
  7. As far as I'm concerned, JJ is someone you build around. He's young, is solid in the field, and is a pretty good hitter. That said, I think Escobar is a trading piece. His value will likely never be higher. Not to say he will never develop as a hitter, but it's doubtful that he will ever hit like JJ. Simply put the gap between JJ's bat and Escobar is much greater than the gap between their gloves (haven't seen Escobar much, but JJ is well above average defensively). If Boras is Escobar's agent, that makes me want to move him even more. I'd like to see him as a piece of a Peavy trade (yes, I'm dreaming).
  8. Thank god. The way things have been going this winter, he probably would have been hurt.
  9. Sharp post. For some reason, many here act like he is a can't miss prospect. I don't see too much to get excited about, he must be a (on) paper tiger. From watching him last year, he looked like a rich man's Joe Winkelsas to me. EDIT: Looking at his stats, true he only walked two in 19 innings, but he also gave up four bombs. Almost all of them must have been solo shots because he only gave up 6 ER.
  10. I would guess that both Sessions and Villanueva could be had for about 3 yrs. 20 million or so unless they play off the charts for the rest of the season. I guess it all depends on how crazy the teams get with the offer sheets.
  11. Yeah, but the only way trading Jefferson is going to help them sign Sessions and Villanueva is the fact that Kohl will have less of his own money invested in salary plus the fact he won't be running up against the tax. Dumping salary at this point doesn't guarantee anything. My guess is they wouldn't have a huge problem moving Jefferson in the summer if need be. Why blow up the team at this point?
  12. Horrible. Even without Redd and Bogut, I think this team can make the playoffs. If Jefferson can start to step up, Villanueva can pick up some of the scoring, and the young guys can continue to develop, this team could be clicking pretty good in April. Bogut might be back as well. I know the armchair G.M.'s won't think much of my opinion, but exactly who would they be clearing cap space for? Who is going to want to come to Milwaukee outside of mediocre talent that is overpaid for a la Bobby Simmons? Speaking of Simmons, I really don't think Jefferson's contract is that bad considering they were able to dump Simmons in the deal.
  13. Bottom line, if Prince is closer to 2007 than 2008, this offense should be one of the best in the league. The team needs the hitters to step up to make up for the loss in pitching. Most of those guys underachieved big time last year, including Prince.
  14. Worst free agent contracts in Brewers history: 1. Hammonds 2. Suppan 3. Higuera (due to injury) 4. Stubbs 5. Hisle (due to injury) If we weren't limiting it to free agents, Grissom and Eldred would replace Stubbs and Hisle.
  15. I would think that you will have to pay more for Peavy at the deadline because all of the teams in contention (especially those with injuries in their rotation) are looking for, and are under pressure from fans to get the guy that will put them over the top. At this point, you would think that San Diego would be more amenable to moving Peavy before spring training just to avoid the daily distraction that this situation has become. Most teams wouldn't move Peavy until the deadline just in case they start off well and are in contention, but this is a rare case because the Padres have pretty much waved the white flag for 2010 and are cutting costs. I'm actually pretty frustrated that the Brewers seem unwilling take advantage of this situation, especially after what they offered Sabathia. One year ago, before CC was a Brewer, I'm guessing most fans would have rather had Peavy.
  16. Personally, I believe both Escobar and Parra are highly overrated here. I hope I'm wrong, and these guys both turn out to be studs, but my gut says no. By all accounts, Escobar is an outstanding fielder...... but will he ever hit enough to become a "star", or will he become the next Royce Clayton? His trade value has never been higher. Hardy should certainly be locked in for the next several years, with his big money coming after the albatross Suppan comes off the books. Parra has a problematic injury history, is only one year younger than Peavy, and for whatever reason hit a wall last year. Many people have stated that they expected Parra to hit the wall last year at a set amount of innings...if that is true, then how can he be counted on as a #2 starter this year? The fact is that Peavy is light years ahead of Parra. He would step in as the staff ace, while Gallardo could slide to the #2 starter.
  17. I can't believe that people have the brass to complain about MJS Brewers coverage this winter. These complainers must be bandwagon fans, because not too many years ago, it was rare for more than one Brewers article per WEEK to pop up on the MJS website. TH usually posts at least one blog update per day.
  18. As I've said before, I'd give San Diego Escobar, Parra and Gwynn for Peavy and I think they'd do it. I would say Peavy is a notch above Sabathia. With Hoffman and Cameron here, I don't think it'd be a huge leap of faith that he'd waive the no trade clause. Peavy and Gallardo would rival any 1-2 punch in the league and they would both be under contract for the next three years. This makes too much sense not to do.
  19. If the Brewers trade for Millwood (or Padilla for that matter) at that contract to free up money for Texas to sign Sheets, I will turn in my fan card. Millwood is basically Suppan-lite at this point (e.g. not quite as bad). He's old with a ton of mileage on his arm with a huge contract. What is there to like?
  20. Suppan most definitely has negative trade value. The ONLY way that I think Suppan could be moved would be either: A. For a comparable horrible contract..... pretty tough to find one (Gary Matthews, Jr., maybe) B. If the Brewers paid a significant chunk of his salary (at least two thirds) C. If the Brewers included a "blue chip" guy like Fielder or good prospects, taking low value in return I don't see any of the three happening. Simply put, if Suppan was a free agent this year, he'd probably get 2-3 million on a one year deal tops, meaning he's overpaid by$9-$10 million this year, with an eight figure guaranteed contract next year. Even if he is "league average" like many here claim, it's hard to argue that he's not exponentially overpaid.
  21. I wonder what ever happened to good old Loren? Loren Brown and WISN, what a rotten summer that was, couldn't hardly pick up the night games. I remember hearing somewhere that Uecker hated Mosely. Haven't seen hide nor hair of him since he was doing the sports on the Channel 18 news about 20 years ago. The TV tandem from that era Steve Shannon and Mike Hegan were pretty awful as well. Anybody remember SportsVue TV network? I'm thinking those games had the radio broadcasts dubbed in, but I could be wrong because I used to turn the TV guys down and turn the radio on when I watched the games. Anyway, back on topic.... I remember thinking how hard it would be for anyone to replace Pat Hughes, but Powell definitely carved his own niche, and he'll be missed. It's tough being the minor leagues for broadcasters.
  22. He looks a lot better at a million than he did at three, that's for sure...
  23. I thought this was such a good idea, I started a new thread on it.
  24. I think Mientkiewicz is a great idea for this team. Hits lefty, and plays a mean first base (late inning defensive replacement for Prince?), his versatility would make him a great veteran role player.
  25. My guess is that something nasty went down between Sheets and the club last year. If I had to guess, I would say it probably had something to do with a misdiagnosis of his injury.
